Simply Outstanding

I was tempted to order the hanger steak since it was fabulous two weeks ago but decided to try something different and I was blown away. The staff is excellent and made us feel so welcome. We tried a suggested Spanish rioja wine which was perfec and very reasonably priced. The artichoke appetizer was seriously one of the best I have ever had and matched perfectly with the wine. My wife ordered the cod which was cooked to perfection and matched with vegetables and sauce that took it to a different level. The cod was so fresh and cooked exactly right. My braised short ribs were outstanding but I ended up helping my wife with the cod since it was so fresh and so incredible. This was seriously the type of meal that we've enjoyed in some of the best NY restaurants with service that made it an absolutely wonderful night. Thank you Martinsville Taverne for a wonderful experience.......and so close to home.......thank you!!

FABULOUS!!

This place is unbelievable. We have been here so many time, for large gatherings, with friends and several times with family. There isn't a bad dish on the menu, including all the salads. Tonight we had an appetizer that was vegetarian and its tough to describe it but it had such interesting flavor. My husband got the lasagna and i ordered the chicken francese, both were excellent as well as the greek chopped salad. My younger daughter is vegetarian and she ordered veggies sides, the cauliflower and brussel sprouts and loved them both. We highly recommend the Martinsville Tavern!

Best hanger steak in NJ

The hanger steak is absolutely done to perfection and the twin lobster special on Mondays is phenomenal. Seriously great food and one of the best restaurants all around. Great food, great service and friendly, professional staff......

Best Chicken Parmigiana Ever

First time visit and it was excellent! Service and food were outstanding. Chicken parmigiana and Penne with meat sauce as well as caesar salad were enjoyed. Definitely recommend this restaurant and will surely return.

Disappointment

What a disappointment! I was looking forward to a night of celebration! We had to wait 10 minutes to get a spot in the parking lot. We came inside and they told us we had to wait 10 to 15 minutes even dough we had a reservation. They offered us a table by the china and we said we rather wait. After 15 minutes they sat us with the leftovers of a Christmas party, no ambiance at all. The last 4 people from the party were very loud and there were no tables around us. I ordered linguine with white clam sauce and it was so salty!! Over all a terrible experience!!

One of Our New Favs!

Visited here years ago under different management and we weren't thrilled. There are many excellent eating establishments in our area so there is steep competition. We eat out every Friday and decided to try this place. We arrived just after 5 PM, so we had our choice of tables. We were directed to a very cozy little room with a few other little tables. It was perfect as it provided us with some privacy. Our food was VERY good and I loved my choice! I ordered salad with salmon and a few of the side dishes. It was perfect for me as I do love my veggies! My family shared an apple dessert and I enjoyed a chocolate martini. Service was perfect! We were very impressed and plan to return soon.

Delicious

Stopped in for lunch while traveling through NJ. Both our meals were wonderful! Wait staff was extremely attentive. Small menu but a nice selection to choose from and the specials sounded realy amazing as well. Every thing was clean. So glad we made the stop.

Always a gem

Always a great experience at this restaurant. Food is always delicious, drinks spectacular, and service is always top notch. Only thing that keeps its 4 stars over 5 is some fine tune etiquette needed re the service. Like reaching across me to handle the person next to me.

Always a good spot to eat lunch (or dinner!)

my son and I often meet to have breakfast or lunch. This place is close to his home and we like it alot. We went this time on a Tuesday for lunch and were the first to come that day. We enjoy sitting in the bar. We had great service from 2 different waiters. We were given both the bar menu and the regular menu. This time we ate off the bar menu. My son had a burger and fries and took some home. Me, I had the brocolli rabe and sausage and I also took some home. We enjoyed both meals very much. Son had a Dog Fish beer and Mom had a pinot grigio. Very enjoyable!

Great tavern with a cozy bar, and real good food. We tried the crab cake, the Buffalo wings, and the mac n cheese. Everything was delicious and the staff were great. We also got a tavern pan pizza to go. Will definitely be returning.

Our first visit and an excellent experience - seated right away - great menu - GREAT SERVICE. After dinner I ordered a "Stinger" it's something my dad and I used to end our meals with - It's not difficult but the two ingredients aren't common - the gang went over and above to deliver to make it happen - we had a really enjoyable time

Very good food, unexpected surprise

Have passed by this restaurant hundreds of times. Finally tried it on a Friday night. Got a reservation easily. They offer valet parking. Nice atmosphere and helpful staff. Ordered the Chicken Milanese. It was delicious but pricey at $24. My husband ordered the linguine with white clam sauce and enjoyed it. The table bread was tasty, a rustic bread. Dessert was a disappointment. Got the key lime pie which was really a drab tart with no key lime flavor and very small portion. Giving 4 stars bc kind of high prices and dessert was not good. Their current online menu does not reflect the higher prices on the in restaurant menu. They should keep their website more current. Tasty spot, may try again for lunch.

Good but unnecessary mistakes made!

First, Trip Advisor - family isn't always TEENS! MY SON is 40 years old!! Please put another classification for 'who did you go with!!' Adult son moved near here and we went here for lunch. Again, I realized I had been here with a 'boyfriend' from a number of years ago and it seems and looks the same inside. We ate in the bar area. Son ordered a beer (I think) and I ordered a pinot grigio but was brought a pinot noir. They corrected that (generous pour by the way).. I had chicken francese and son had an italian pasta dish. I thought mine was delicious, even the very runny mashed potatoes (boxed? instant?). First, at lunch they brought my son the burger and fries he ordered for his wife who was working at home! I HOPE they made new for that order (but I never asked him). Listen, I like this place, the waiters are nice but LISTEN to your customers to get the orders correct!! Yes, I'll be back I am sure.....

Very nice family friendly restaurant. Food and service was very good. My only complaint was that desserts were very small and not big enough to share. I would suggest a price increase and size increase.

Decent local place

First time visit with friends who raved about this restaurant. Very small, tight restaurant in an old building. Parking a bit of a mess with cars blocking road waiting for valet. Service just ok. I actually was corrected by the waitress for my pronunciation of Sangiovese. I was/am correct (San-joe-vah-zee not San-joe-veez in case they are wondering 😀). Food is good (not 4 star good). Better than typical pub/bar food but not at the level suggested in these other reviews. Better restaurants in the area in my opinion.
