WOW - great Sushi and Cocktails

We were visiting for a wedding - and wanted a nice Sushi restaurant. Honshu was decorated with contemporary furnishings - and the staff was very nice. We ordered drinks and sushi - and both were EXCELLENT. The food was fresh, unique and tasty! We loved it so much - that we sent our friends there the next night for another wonderful meal. Thank you!

Great service, fresh Sushi, nice variety

Had a lovely meal here. Sat outside - Service was outstanding. Mango Blossom Roll was great as was the grilled Calamari. Others had the King Crab and Spider Roll- typical but they were fresh and well prepared. Nice menu with many choices. Kitchen is happy to customize Asia’s customer prefers. I highly recommend this place for a great meal.

Sushi Supreme

Very nice casual restaurant with amazing sushi and incredible seaweed soup. Iced green tea was surprisingly delicious also! Great service and wonderful friendly staff!

This place was highly recommended. Only take out, so I needed to drive to pick up. The ordering online is good and it offers to have your order brought out to the car in 25 min. I was there in 50 min. The order was not ready so I needed to wait for another 20 min. The street doesn’t allow parking ( I think even stopping) so it is a pain. The food: we ordered the highly acclaimed spicy tuna tartar. It has nothing to do with tartar, has pretty large piece of tuna on top of hard fried rice tempura and a chunk of dense seasoning on top. Eatable but nothing to rave about. Yellowtail with Serrano peppers is very good, the best from our choices. Two special rolls ($16 and $15) were OK. but were both packed in one small tray, so it looked more like chip small rolls. Prices are high so for a restaurant that mostly serves takeout, the presentation of packed food desires to improve. On balance, OK sushi , but we would do OK (and cheaper)without a drive at a few other sushi places around.

Quick lunch before heading to airport

I thought I’d try this place as it had good ratings on TripAdvisor but I wasn’t impressed with the food. The sashimi was badly cut and I have never seen tuna cut as small as it was. The special rolls were cut to thin and were inconsistant and the rice was cold. The only consolation was that the service was very good but I am not paying to eat the service 😩.

Good was good. Colorful menu. Clean place

From the outside, it was hard to tell what kind of place it would be. Once inside, it was nicer than expected ( expected for a cheap, non modern place ). The decor and ample seating was great. No one was sitting on top of us and a conversation can be carried. Colorful menu which I got a little confused going back and forth. The red Phoenix roll and lychee martinis were delicious. The wet napkin was convenient, but would prefer a hot hand towel. The wait staff were nice and patient.

We had a superb dining experience at Honshu! The oysters were so fresh and delicious. Cocktails were perfect and the sushi rolls were top notch in presentation and flavor. Highly Recommend!

First time Japanese Food

My daughter in law invited us to Honshu restaurant. We really enjoyed the whole dining experience, food and service was excellent.

Delicious Fresh Sushi

We had been looking for a good sushi place which was local for our son's birthday. The sushi was excellent-fresh, highest quality, and the special rolls were absolutely delicious. My husband's cocktail was yummy and strong enough that it was good that only one of us had one! We also got a chocolate cake for my son's birthday, and it was perfect, with a hot melt in your mouth center which I would not necessarily have expected at a Japanese restaurant.

BEST sushi in Jersey City

You can’t go wrong with the regular sushi menu or the fresh items flown in from Japan every day. Love the sushi but if you don’t there is a good selection of cooked food also. Try the Montgomery roll or the Izikaya. Fashion roll is yummy too with a nice jalapeño kick.

Authentic Japanese fare in a very busy restaurant

Chanced upon this very popular lunchtime restaurant near Exchange Place and were lucky to get seats immediately. Tried a range of sashimi -- tuna, salmon, scallops -- and the chicken teriyaki, along with miso soup and crispy salmon skin salad The sashimi was excellent, presented, of course, very aesthetically. The miso soup was thick and tasty and hot enough to warm the cockles of the heart on a chilly day. Teriyaki chicken sauce was quite good, but the meat was not as crisp at the edges as it should be to offer the right texture and contrast The salmon skin in the salad also was nowhere as crispy as it needs to be, though the amount of salmon in the salad was better than in most places

Pathetic Staff

Our waiter was picking on us for fun. Asked us why we weren't able to finish our food, given the fact that we are so "Big". And couple other extremely hurtful things. Commenting on the food is pointless, the staff managed to spoil our evening very well. I would rather go to a substandard restaurant, where at least the people are nice.

Great place to hang out, eat and have fun

Happy hour is great deal: from $5 appetizer to Japanese whiskey (you can't get better deal) Oysters and sushi are amazing. Especially the special fish, they have wide variety including live scallop, live shrimp, barracuda and needle fish. Live shrimp and live scallop are must buy items - they are so good. Compare to city, they are much affordable. So I don't mind to travel to JC to get their deal. Will try their omakase for the next visit.
