Went to the downtown location for lunch with a friend during the pandemic (uptown location was still closed but downtown is OPEN) and ate outside. Tables were distanced; server wore a mask; we felt safe. We got the churrasco sandwich (beef), tostones, pollo asado with...sides of maduro, rice & beans. It was all delicious and too much to finish. Reasonably priced.More

I've been a huge fan since first going to La Isla in '98 and drove 45 minutes yesterday for some takeout to support this establishment during the pandemic. It's great comfort food. Buries Cuban joints near me (Jersey shore), and it's absolutely solid. Gourmet? Probably...not, but we've had everything from seafood to meats to stews and Cuban presses. All good. I assure you can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches, yuca, fried pork chunks or chicken dishes -- our stalwarts. Eager to get back up there and to the downtown store once it reopens. And if compelled to order, do so thru La Isla's website; keeps money in their pockets.More

Because of the current circumstances, I ordered take out since it was the only option. I would think the food in one way or another, would resemble what I've eaten at the restaurant. Maybe it was because it was Sunday afternoon, clientele is low, and...they had leftovers from previous nights, because it still feels that is what we were fed. My family of 3, got all sick, if it was 1 or 2 of us,it might of been understandable. But even then, food quality could of been and should always be a priority. Very disappointed, and thank God in Hoboken there are better choices to choose from. Choose wisely, and don't end up getting sick from food that should always be prepared the way it's meant to be.More

These days, I tend to let the Infatuation guide my dining choices. I read a glowing review on La Isla, and I had never been before. Went for comfort food, the "perfect" Cuban sandwich as it was suggested in the review, and I was blown...away. The outdoor seating is not open at the moment, but soon.More

Visiting from out of state and our friends took us here because the food and coffee is delicious. Boy, they were right! Large portions and friendly staff. We had to sit at counter as there are no tables for 5 or more people.

The experience was horrible. We dropped in for lunch. The food was tasteless, the service was slow and lacking in pleasantries. When the food was delivered to the table it was “thrown” onto the table as opposed to carefully placing in front of the patron....The waiter was not a waiter and was most unpleasant. The biggest disappointment was the food which was totally lacking in flavor.More

You know I like this place and the flavor is very good. I will say that. This place has been in Hoboken for many years. It's quaint which means it's small. It's a little tight. It's pricey for its meals as well. Even an empanada...is 4.50 which is very high. $3 is already a little on the high end of ok but 4.50? A very very simple dish like masitas for $16 is very high compared to other restaurants. As much as I like it, I pass and make my trip union city, west ny, guttenberg, for Cuban cuisine if I'm in the areaMore

We've eaten breakfast at La Isla before and it never disappoints. This time around, I had the french toast with toasted almonds and powdered sugar. It was so good. My husband had the La Isla Egg Sandwich which he absolutely loved. Our daughter and son-in-law...had omelets. And the coffee is the best! This time around, the service was slower than usual, but the food remains good enough to wait for! Prices are reasonable.More

The establishment is nice enough, convenient parking ($30 for the day). Fun music, great service but I've "HAVE HAD BETTER CUBAN FOOD", in more local places. I'd doubt I would return based on the difficulty of getting there and the average cuisine.

This is a rare family-style place that has excellent customer service, good food, and a low key style. The service while great is not very fast. Think of it as going to grandmas for Sunday dinner, warm friendly, good food with ample time for family...discussion and slow pace eating. Very enjoyable experience for me and my family. I also saw couples come in for a quick burger and fries and go, so they probably can be quick if you need that I can only report on my pleasant experience.More
