This was our fourth trip. The food is really well prepared and I am surprised it is not outrageously popular. The building started out many years ago as a gas station then a cafe/diner. Now a decent atmosphere dining room adorns the property. There are...a few parking spaces out front with difficult parking in this densely populated neighborhood. There is entertainment starting about 9 PM on weekends. On occasion a few tables are cleared away for dancing. We were there for New Year's Eve 2019 and had a most excellent evening. We got there early so there is an early bird menu, a four course dinner for $15.95 pp. Service was timely with no long waits between courses. Soft drinks are available by the glass for $3.00 extra with free refills. Several choices of appetizer, glass of wine, soup or salad, several choices of entree, Friday night the dessert was vanilla ice cream only, coffee. Zoila's is a BYOB. Now the wine tasted like they had mixed all the red wines that customers had not taken with them. I could not distinguish the type, only red was available. The food is always nicely prepared. I had the spinach, mushroom melted cheese appetizer my wife ordered the eggplant rollatini, we shared both. A decent portion for both, My wife had the squash soup, a decent sized bowl was served. My salad was large with house dressing (oil and vinegar) only available. No salt and pepper is available on the tables. The waiter ground pepper some for my salad. You really do not need salt and pepper because everything is well seasoned. I had the salmon, it looked like a 4 oz portion, which was adequate and what would you reasonably expect for $15.95 complete. My wife had the shrimp parmisan which was very well prepared, breaded, large and delicious. We skipped the dessert and enjoyed the coffee. I taste the coffee at restaurants black. If it is good I drink it without milk or creamer. I drank mine black. There were familiar offerings on the regular menu. The decadent 24 ounce steak, the most delicious and large portion stuffed pork chops. You gotta try this place!!More

Come on people, NO WAY this is the 14th best restaurant in Garfield. This must be more of a popularity contest. You people need to eat here.

Can't say enough good things about this place. Everything we had was fantastic. The quality and size of the portions were better than expected (see the pics). We all left with doggie bags. Wish it had been warmer so we could enjoy the patio area...out back, which only means we will have to go back when it gets warmer. My only suggestion to the management is that they might want to consider a lunch menu with reduced size portions (and reduced prices). We will definitely be going back to this placeMore

I wanted to try Zoila's Kitchen ever since I saw her commercials on TV. I was not disappointed! A friend and I went for lunch and had a great time. The decor is simple, comfortable and pretty with a country kitchen feel. We shared a...delicious order of fried calamari - it came out hot, tasted great, nice, light crunchy breading, and a chunky tomato sauce for dipping. I rarely use anything on my calamari but the sauce was so good, I enjoyed it! I ordered the skirt steak salad over a bed of arugula and other greens with a very light, flavorful bleu cheese yogurt dressing, and "apple cranberry jicama slaw", with tomatoes, onions and blue corn chips. Not only was it a huge portion (I took home enough for lunch the next day!) but it was fabulous!! I love all these foods and to find them together was a rarity - you so seldom see "steak salads" on a menu! My girlfriend had the basil chicken bianca over angel hair - it smelled and looked wonderful, was again a huge portion which she also took home. Even the bread we requested was delicious! We were stuffed but ordered desserts - the espresso tiramisu - fabulous!! Generous, flavorful, light, not too sweet. The place was not busy (we went for late lunch on a weekday) so the waitress was able to spend some time chatting with us - she was delightful and informative. And, as we left, we were introduced to Miss Zoila herself, which was a treat - she was charming and gracious. We had a wonderful time here and I can't wait to go back and eat my way through the menu!More

This is a little gem tucked away from the hussle and bussle of the high street. Its very clean and the food is amazing! I decided on the skirt steak and was I in for a surprise. Two whole skirts and cooked to perfection. When...you can eat great food like this, it's always value for money. There is a definite vibe to the food. Give this little restaurant a try, you will be glad you did!More

I had read all the reviews on Zoila's Kitchen online and I have to say that all new restaurants have growing pains, especially one that has only been open for a year. I went to an organizational dinner last night where they closed the restaurant...for us and we were a party of almost 60 people. Needless to say, the food and the service were excellent. Normally when you have to serve that many people and time it correctly, the food can be mediocre. Not here. They timed the meal perfectly and there were plenty of servers on staff that night to meet all of our needs. Not only did they bring the food out on a timely basis, they watched whether we needed soda, water, bread and fresh utensils. They were really on top of everything and the best part is that the staff is so friendly. The food, even for a large group, was excellent. We started the meal with fresh warm bread, which we devoured and then placed pitchers of soda and water on the table. We started the meal with mozzarella and tomatoes, which were cherry tomatoes and mozzarella balls with a light dusting of oil and vinegar. The tomatoes were so fresh they tasted just picked. Then we had the fried calamari, which was so sweet and perfectly fried out it was not at all greasy and tasted like they cut it themselves. You could tell it was not the usual frozen loopy stuff. The eggplant rolletini was good but the portion size was a little big and it was someone gloppy. Good but a little soggy. The Penne with Vodka sauce was wonderful but over-sauced. The pasta was swimming in sauce which it did not need to be and there was no bread to soak it up. The dish was flavorful and well spiced. I was impressed that it was cooked perfectly for a large party. The salad was served family style and the greens and tomatoes were so fresh and crisp and done with a light vinaigrette dressing. It was so crisp to bite into. The tomatoes were a little out of season but the quality for this time of the year was excellent. For the entree, I had the double stuffed pork chop that could have easily fed two people. It was a double pork chop, butterflied and stuffed with breadcrumbs, fried out and then finished off in the oven. The portion size was huge! After all that food I could barely finish it. It almost tasted like a fancy Shake & Bake coating but it was perfectly cooked, which is rare for a cut of meat like this, juicy, well-seasoned and the coating was flavorful inside and out. It was you could taste the sour cream in the coating. It was so moist and the meat tasted sweet as well. Dessert was the only let down as they served us strawberry shortcake and tiramasu. The strawberry shortcake was pretty standard but the strawberries for this time of year were very sweet and fresh. Overall not bad. I am sure that the desserts are much better on a a la carte menu. The meal overall was excellent. It was well-prepared, well-seasoned, served perfectly timed with a smile on their faces and the portion sizes were very generous. They also have an early bird special from 3:00pm-6:00pm that is $12.00 that looks amazing. I have read the other reviews on TripAdvisor and Google and have to say that they are working through their growing pains. If this is a sign of a restaurant maturing, it is a good sign. I will have to try it for a regular dinner to see how they do but so far for a large group, they handled it beautifully.More

After reading good reviews, my sister and I went to Zoila's for lunch. I ordered the half rack of spare ribs. My sister had the broiled salmon. The rib dish was a large portion. I tried cutting off one rib using a sharp steak knife...and had a difficult time. The barbecue sauce was tangy and tasty but the rib was tough, almost uncooked. It was very fatty too. The fat wasn't trimmed off. The meat by the bone was red and raw. I tried eating a second rib and took the rest home. My wife sampled them for dinner. She was unable slice off one rib. She decided to cook the ribs in a frying pan. After 20 minutes she took them out, but they were still inedible. My sister said that her salmon wasn't fresh. I tried it. It was very fishy. I wanted to like this place. The owner was nice and came to the table after the meal; but the spare ribs were the worst I ever had and my sister couldn't finish her small salmon fillet.More

What more do you need? I went there to celebrate my mother's birthday and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the staff is and how delicious the food was. The menu is extensive, will surely please any craving. I ordered the skirt steak which...was cooked to perfection and so flavorful! We all loved what we ordered and had plenty to take home. Will definitely go back. This is a BYOB. Special early bird is from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. everyday, so that explains why the restaurant is not crowded after six. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed!More
