The place went completely downhill. It's disgusting. Needs a desparate paint job. Need the fish tanks cleaned. Its so outdated. The food is ok but sitting there is such a turnoff. Won't see us any time soon.

My friends and I went and the cashier said don’t ever come back again since you cant pay enough tips. We’re 17 we go here on the regular and always tip $30 to the servers and the one time we didn’t she embarrassed us Infront...of everyone. We also waited 1hr 30 for grilled cheese take the extra mile and go to another diner like Metuchen diner. I’ve never seen such rude people work ever where they drive off customers. And mind you not we were 15 people who come here on a weekly basis and she told all 15 of us to not come back again.More

Unfortunately, I will not be going back here. My family and I had been going the Edison Family Restaurant for at least 20 years. I had even tried to recommend them to Diners, Drivers and Dives years ago, that's how good it USED to be....It was our favorite breakfast spot and part of the reason was because the previous owner was incredibly kind to all of the customers. When my mom would go without us kids, she would inquire to make sure we were ok. Every time I come home we make a trip there and so we went there for breakfast this morning. The person who greeted us looked almost bothered when we walked in, and when we asked to be seated in the warmer section of the restaurant, allowed us to do so with a look of annoyance. Once seated, our waitress was fine and pleasant, always keeping our coffee cups full. The food was ok. The omelette tasted almost as if it had expired vegetables in it, not to the standard of the previous omelettes I have had there in the past. The pumpkin pancakes were excellent, though. They lacked the walnuts my mom asked for, but not a big deal at all and we ate them anyway, without bothering the waitress about it. When we went to pay the bill at the counter, then same lady who seated us ran the check. We handed over our credit card to pay and just out of curiosity asked what the "open food" charge was for. She gruffly replied that it was for the walnuts for the pancakes. We didn't make a fuss, just said, "Oh, that's what that is. We never got them, but that's ok", and planned to pay the whole bill regardless. It was only 95 cents extra. Nevertheless, she proceeded to berate us because we didn't tell the waitress ahead of time for not getting the walnuts so she could have fixed the check earlier. Again, we never asked to fix the check, she took it upon herself to do so while reprimanding us for the entire restaurant to hear, and it took her about 5 seconds to take the charge off the bill. We simply signed the check and left, but we all decided that we will not be going back and it is their loss, because I suspect they will continue to lose customers due to very poor customer service.More

Our waitress was wonderful. Menu options PLENTIFUL, to say the least. The food came out hot and fresh but no seasonings. The home fries were fried potatoes with no seasonings. We had to keep adding salt and pepper. There were lots of seniors there so...maybe they don't do alot of seasoning to cater to their majority of guests. I must say that the waffle and sausage was delicious!More

I don't get to eat here very often but have had a very good breakfast when I did. It's kind of a HomeTown place but finding a parking space can be a problem when they are busy.

You know a diner is going to be good when you see police cars in the parking lot. Took my son there for very early breakfast after picking him up at metropark. It’s a family diner and it shows. Very homey, not all slick with...mirrors. My son had his first Benedict and the glory of hollandaise sauce was noted. I had SOS aka chipped beef on toast. Both were very good as was the coffee. Will definitely be back.More

Was there recently for breakfast and the place was mostly empty. In the past, Edison Family Restaurant was ALWAYS packed. Put my order in and waited for almost 10 minutes to get a simple breakfast. That is WAY unacceptable...

We eat lunch here often. We have as yet to have a bad meal. It is the best diner food I have had. The salads are crunchy and fresh and the specials are exceptional. My friend especially liked the chicken pot pie! Don't miss the...soup that comes with lunch - then take a quart home to have later.More

My colleagues and I visited Edison Family Restaurant on August 29, 2018. We were 6 of us and were seated pretty soon. The place is very simple and has no frills. The restaurant was almost full. Have noticed that there are plenty of cars parked...outside the Restaurant at all times during the day which speaks about its quality. We ordered various kinds of omelettes and they were good.More
