We go to this diner all the time. Mostly weekend brunch. Packages, burgers and wings are some the staple items we order alllll the time. Service is great, place is homey, and food is a hit each time.

Pancakes - taste old, oily, my 7 years old kids didn't even like them. Couldn't finish. Bacon - overcooked, hard, taste old. My two kids love bacon but they said no thanks you to their bacon. Avocado toast - not even eatable. They said that...the avocado spread was made fresh there but the color was black, smelled bad and I couldn't even swallow. Fresh fruits came with avocado toast wasn't even fresh. Pineapple was black and cantaloupe was mushy. Fried chicken - oily. Supposed to be honey flavored but taste nothing like honey. Salad came with chicken was old. Cherry tomatoes were mushy. Overalls, food taste old. It didn't taste like they are cooked fresh. Leftovers? And everything was overpriced. Only good thing was a service. Never go back again. Horrible experience.More
Good food especially take out. you can’t go wrong with really good food from the diner although they did not have any shrimp salad the day we were there I had a fabulous triple decker turkey bacon club sandwich my beautiful bride had a wonderful...salad that she thoroughly enjoyed. Inside while we waited we noticed the tables were socially distant and they really paid attention to COVID-19 protocols. We chose to take out to be extra safe but I highly recommend this place.More
Located on Route 18 East, I haven't been here for many years but the experience wasn't like what I remembered. We stopped by for lunch, the dining areas are large and it seemed like it was fully staffed. However, while the place was at least...half empty, it took a while before a server came over. The orders came out fairly quickly but the food was just okay. My wife ordered a Greek salad but it didn't come with any grape leaves, what's a Greek salad without them??? My burger was just okay but the fries were good. Ample parking available.More
Used to be my favorite diner. Dessert a month ago was expensive and the cakes not as good as they used to be (with smaller cuts). Then today for lunch a chicken salad sandwich was awful. Huge thick bread, hardly any chicken salad and what...was there was mostly mayo. Diner should be ashamed. Fancy menu but doesn’t deliver the goods. Much prefer a regular diner with a regular diner menu. Oh, and slapping on a ton of fries on the side doesn’t do it. If I knew the sandwich came with fries I would have asked for a substitute or told you to hold it. Maybe the waitress should have mentioned something about the fries?More
Went for brunch with a group of 20 last sunday. Service was excellent. I had an omelet which was one of the biggest I have ever been served. I couldn't finish it. Home fries are delicious, and the coffee was great. Considering how large a...group we were, our waiter got everything straight while maintaining his sense of humor. All in all, good value for the price, and very good food.More
The food here is just like most diners. It was very busy and it looked like most were customers that had been here a few times. I would definitely come back for lunch/dinner.
We arrived after the breakfast rush, so they were quite empty. The service was attentive. Real NJ sloppy Joes and the coffee was very good.
The other night I had a craving for a nice pizza burger, my husband suggested the Colonial Diner and we went. What a disappointment!!!!!!! It was just a burger and they didn't even bother to melt the mozzarella cheese on top. The cheese was not...melted so it didn't feel cheesy as it should have been. They gave me the marinara sauce on the side.!!!!!More
Meal was served quite quickly nice menu good food and plenty of it. Comfortable seating . Service was efficient. Waitress was pleasantly chatty.
Expected typical diner menu. Was disappointed as the menu was limited in choices. None of your typical diner comfort foods available and the choices you had seemed very expensive. Service was good and quick but not like a diner you'd expect
The Colonial Diner, located on Route 18 Northbound, in East Brunswick is well worth the trip for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or anything in between. A classic Diner serving good food everyone will enjoy. Service is always good and friendly.
I stopped in during the later hours of lunch on a Monday afternoon with a co-worker since we were in the area. It was very crowded for an off hour which was a good sign. I immediately noticed this diner was large and can accommodate...299 people...as per the warning from the local FD. I had the cinnamon French toast with bananas and a side of Turkey sausage. For some reason, I didn't try the coffee. My meal consisted of 3 large thick slices...that weren't cut into triangles or squares and 4 links of sausage. Just enough bananas and they were fresh. The French toast met my standards but the 4 links were probably microwaved because they were very hard to cut once they cooled off. My co-worker had the half soup and sandwich. She said the chicken rice soup was very good and the pastrami sandwich was ok. She was satisfied with her meal. We never received the obligatory "How is everything?" half way through our meal. If she did come by, we needed refills and napkins. The prices were very reasonable and there was plenty of parking. Bathrooms were clean. It's your typical standard diner in NJ. Nothing wrong with it.More
Newer ownership seem to lack sensitivity of former, long time owner. Seems quite a bit different from prior atmosphere. Salad bar not as good as in past. Menus too brief, and somewhat pricey for offerings.
Great choice for breakfast anytime, sandwiches, meals and salad bar. Great variety of well prepared food. Pleasant and efficient staff. Great desserts. Always our stop when in area of NJ
