Hunkar restaurant offers a unique experience every time. Choosing from an exquisite Mediterranean cuisine menu you can enjoy flavors that will awake you senses! Hummus, babaganush, or kabobs flavors and aromatics will leave you asking for dessert...my favorite baklava!
Ah, yet another wonderful Middle Eastern restaurant for us to visit.
We are trying to cut back on portions and servings, which isn't easy with all the amazing appetizers Middle Eastern restaurants often have, but we did manage to settle on 3.
The...Hummus, the Tarama and the Lebneh (Lebni?)... All wonderful.
The mixed grill for 2 (lamb shish kebab, chicken shish kebab, adana kebab, kofte kebab and chicken adana or doner). Wonderful and plenty to eat for 2.
The service was prompt and attentive and it is a BYOB!! (YEA!!!)More
We stopped in for an early dinner before seeing Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium, having been intrigued by the menu online. We picked a bunch of starters and a kebab and grazed our way through it. The food was delicious, the service efficient and the...atmosphere was pleasant. We had Shepard Salad, Cigarette Börek, Zucchini Pancakes, Panned Eggplant and Chicken Shish Kebab. We thought the Cigarette Börek was particularly good. Pastry sheets rolled around feta with herbs. The feta was melty and the herbs enhanced the flavor. We also loved the chicken kebab which was done perfectly. We liked the other dishes as well. I will definitely go back!More
Pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. Food is amazingly delicious and so is the view. Had been to Istanbul a few years back and just love the Turkish food. This place brings back that memories with their food. We were seated on the back patio with...a great view of Manhattan, the meadowlands and part of Newark airport. This is a byob restaurant.More
What an amazing restaurant, the atmosphere is amazing the restaurant itself is very good, but in the back they have an outside dining area that is awesome and very cozy.
The food is also traditional and excellent. My fiancé and I enjoyed the whole experience....For starters, right after we ordered, we were served with some of the most delicious bread with sesame what I have ever had in a restaurant and it was right out of the oven hot.
As an appetizer we had the Zucchini pancakes and the stuffed eggplant both were very good. The stuffed eggplant came with green peppers these pepper are very spicy and just be cautious. I was fortunate that I can handle the heat but many will not.
For the entrée the lamb shank and Hunkar Begendi were both very good. The lamb shank portion was huge and half if not more had to be wrapped. This will definitely be eaten tomorrow for lunch. My fiancé and I were able to finish off the Hunkar Begendi but after that we were full.
We still managed to order desert and some Kadayif was also very good. I highly recommend it.More
My husband and I eat at Hunkar very often. It's also one of our favorite places to bring friends and family.
The food is delicious. The service is a wonderful blend of comfortable and skilled. Every server we've ever had has been friendly and accommodating....We feel incredibly at home at Hunkar and we've had many, many delightful meals there. I also have an allergy to soy oil and they are always very careful to tell me what has any soy in it (which is usually only food prepared in the fryer.)
Not only is the service wonderful and the food delicious, the prices are incredibly reasonable.
You can't go wrong at Hunkar. I'm so glad they're there and I hope to enjoy their food and ambience for many years to come.More
