Did not expect to find delicious food at a hotel like this. Salmon tartar, green beans (best I have ever had), and the summer primavera pasta with asparagus so perfect. Amazing service and food. I was so happy SS was my kid.

My wife and I dined here on Sunday evening 2/23. We have been here about a dozen times over the years, mostly around the holidays. In the past, we have always had a top-shelf experience in terms of the quantity and quantity of food, and...the quality of service. We don’t mind paying a premium price for that experience. But the changes noted in the recent reviews are indeed having an impact. The food is not as good, there isn’t as much of it, and the prices remain the same (or are higher in some cases). For example: I ordered the scallops entrée for $34, and received a total of three scallops, along with a side that was basically inedible. It was so under-cooked and swimming in some kind of white sauce, it was not at all appealing. My wife had the butternut squash agnolotti; it was fair at best; and was a very small portion. She said she’s had better in other places at half the cost. The glasses of wine are also now smaller than they used to be. It just appears they are reducing cost in any way they can, while keeping the prices the same. The restaurant now is definitely not worth the premium prices. On a side note: On the Sunday after Valentine’s Day weekend, I would have expected a bigger crowd at a place like this; but there were very few patrons in the bar area at 7 PM. So perhaps word is getting out. It is really is a shame; the place is so beautiful and elegant it deserves better management.More

My husband and I settled on The Bernards Inn for breakfast when we were looking for an option that was nicer than a diner. Truth is, I've had warmer service at diners. There was no one in the restaurant when we arrived on a Saturday...morning, and only one other table filled during our meal. Service was slow and rather aloof. I asked what kind of muffins they had for the day and the server shrugged and said, "I'm not sure." When he came back with our coffee, he said - no joke - "I have, like, one muffin left. It's banana." Good think we both didn't want a muffin. It took 20 minutes for our breakfast to come. The food was good, if not exactly hot. I had an omelette, which was average, though the breakfast potatoes it came with were amazing. The toast was fine, nothing special - multigrain from an average grocery store loaf. My husband's pancakes were also average - nothing wrong with them, but nothing great. Breakfast for two cost a little over $50. Gratuity of 20% was already added. We tip well for good service, but we would not have tipped 20% this time if given the option. And it begs the question - why should the servers make much of an effort if they're all going to get a decent tip anyway? We definitely would not return. There are plenty of breakfast options out there with better food and way better service.More

I have been going to the Bernards Inn for over 10 years & was there last night. While sipping on a cold martini, the cell phone of the gentleman next to me rang - he proceeded to take the call & have a full on...conversation. I gazed across the bar & another gentleman was talking on his phone. I looked around most of the other couples were on the phones! The bartender never asked them to get off the calls. Of ALL the establishments I least expected this from - it was the Bernards Inn! I always expected tradition, class, the highest of polished elegance - Very disappointed!More

Up until recently, we'd never had a bad meal at the Bernards Inn. In fact, the food and service had been exceptional for years. Recently, the kitchen underwent a renovation (as we were told by the bartenders and waitstaff), and the dinner menu has been...pared back (eliminating the prior bar menu). Our appetizers arrived within several minutes of ordering (never a good sign; typically indicates they were pre-made and sitting around in the kitchen). My wedge salad was warm and the lettuce wilted. My wife's lump crab cocktail consisted of a small portion of shredded backfin crab meat without anything resembling fresh "lump" crab. The entrees were just ok although it appeared the plates had been prepared well in advance and the proteins added after everything else had sat under a heat lamp. Bar service was less friendly than typical. It's apparent some changes have been made, none of appear to be for the better. A once elegant and excellent dining experience appears to be gone.More

Located in The Bernard's Inn, this a nice quality dining place with a small but nce menu, acceptable service and a great winelist. Featuring local produce/products, the dishes are fresh and flavorable. Service is not up to the room, menu, or food. Recommended.

I have been dining at The Bernards Inn for years. I have had hundreds of dinners, lunches and parties at the restaurant. I have always bought weekend stays as wedding presents for many newlyweds as well as always taking friends there to celebrate their birthdays....Last night was a total disappointment! The food was horrible as well as the service. Our waitress was lovely as always, but the servers put wrong plates in front of us when we were served our appetizers and main courses. The food was equal to a chain restaurant. The soup and tuna pizza was disgusting! There were no good dishes. The manager knew it was my birthday, because I had called and spoken to him. He never told our waitress. When desserts cane, there was no candle! I got up and said something to the girl at the desk and she called the waitress and then they stuck a candle in ice cream and brought it to the table. The Bernard’s Inn always gave a little box of truffles with a card. I was told that they don’t do that anymore. I assume that they have a new chef and they are cutting costs, but I would never recommend this restaurant!More

Don’t make the same mistake!!! The kitchen is undergoing renovations and a limited menu is available in both the bar and dining room. We made our reservation based on the menu posted on the website and were thrilled that our various dietary restrictions were met!...NOT SO FAST!!! The limited menu had exactly none of the items that we required/desired!! No warning, no description of the restricted menu as we sat. Only after asking questions did we learn of the limitation. I placed a $10 bill under the iced tea that I did not drink and off we went to seek a meal elsewhere. Bernard’s Inn, please post a warning on your website, if it is there, it is not obvious. Good luck with your renovation.More

This restaurant should be closed until kitchen renovations are completed. At the very least they should notify patrons upon making a reservation that the kitchen is in the process of reconstruction and the menu is limited and the food is sub par. Certainly not worth...the price at this point in time. Hopefully they will return to their normal excellence. Until that time, however, I will not return and cannot recommend it.More
