I had dinner at Burdick's last night with a good friend. The food, as always, was excellent. The service, as always, was slow; our server appeared to be new and not once did she check on us -- whenever we needed something, we had to...hail her down. I know that restaurants are still gearing up to something like full capacity, so my friend and I were patient and polite. That is, until the manager sidled up (rather too close) to me on the banquette as we were waiting for dessert. I assumed he was sitting down to say hello, since I am a regular at the market next door (where he often sees me) and my friend is something of a regular in the restaurant. But no, he was there to lecture us on our wine consumption. With our meal, my friend and I each had three glasses of wine, roughly (though not quite) the equivalent of sharing a bottle; we chose to go by the glass because she prefers Pinot Grigio and I drink Sauvignon Blanc. When it was time to place our dessert order, I decided I was quite full from the previous two courses, but I would have another glass of wine to keep my friend company while she enjoyed her flourless chocolate cake and coffee. Since I wasn't driving, I didn't feel the need to have coffee. For some reason, our server voiced "concern" to the manager about that fourth glass of wine, and it was at first withheld. We were clearly not exhibiting any ill effects from the wine; we were simply two middle-aged women enjoying a night out, with plenty of great food and good conversation. We were not doing shots at the bar, spilling drinks, disrupting the meals of other diners, being rude to anyone, slurring our words -- nothing, NOTHING that would indicate we had had too much to drink. But rather than take a few moments to observe our behavior, the manager chose to chastise and lecture us in a very public and condescending way. We were told that the norm is one glass of wine per hour, and he noted that we had only been at the table for slightly less than two hours. I have no idea where he gets this "norm" -- any event planner will tell you to figure on one bottle of wine (roughly 6.5 glasses) for every two people every two hours. Our wine consumption was well within that recommendation, especially for a fine dining experience. We were also told what the legal blood alcohol limits are, we were asked who was driving home (it happened to be my friend, who had had three glasses and then coffee with dessert), and how far away we lived. The whole thing was intrusive and inappropriate. Finally, he seemed satisfied that we were not posing any danger to ourselves or others, and the last glass of wine was released. When the server brought it over, I questioned her about what she did. Was she complying with some management policy of withholding a fourth glass of wine? No. Had she observed any untoward behavior on my part or that of my friend? No. She finally said that she expressed concern because she knew that SHE would not be able to handle four glasses of wine. She based her completely unwarranted action on her completely subjective feeling that she -- weighing probably half of what I do and young enough to be my daughter -- would not be able to handle four glasses of wine. I would love to know what sort of training she has had, that she felt this was an appropriate way to treat a customer who was exhibiting nothing even close to drunken behavior. Needless to say, it will be a long time before my friend and I visit Burdick's again. And, we are owed an apology for the treatment we received.More

Thank you Burdick's! We moved away for three years and missed you so. The staff, the food, the service, the ambiance....it's all there and a sweet welcome for those of us who had missed this gem of a spot. Followed by a visit to the...chocolate shop, it was a perfect day.More

A delightful Brunch experience. From the dozen Oysters on The Half Shell to the best house-made Corned Beef Hash with Poached Eggs. And don’t forget to try the Burdick’s Bloody Mary made with house-made horseradish infused vodka and house-made Bloody Mary mix. The blue cheese...stuffed olives and pepper bacon make it extra special! Be sure to try the superb chocolate mousse for dessert! And I would be remiss if I did not mention the excellent service provided by our waiter, Jordan. Rarely have we encountered such a polite, well-mannered, attentive individual. Kudos to Burdick’s for hiring such superb wait staff.More

During this Pandemic we have supported local restaurants without judgement in this difficult time. I am making an exception with Burdicks. A fine dining restaurant by reputation and prices, but the food is not worthy of this label. My family wanted to enjoy a special...pre Christmas dinner at a high end restaurant and chose Burdicks. I had the steak frites, my wife the French onion soup and my daughter the omelette. My $27 steak frites was delivered with a mound of French fries dwarfing the steak and soaking up the liquid from the steak. The steak was cooked well but was a bit chewy. The mound of fries was more than one could possibly eat. It would have been nice, for $27 to have had a vegetable as part of the meal. My wife’s onion soup was terrible, totally lacking any depth of flavor or richness you would expect for $14. My daughter’s omelette was undercooked and emitted a strange tasting liquid. She ate less than half and felt sick on our ride home. A longtime trademark of the restaurant was to leave little chocolates from their well known chocolate store next door, but not any more. My advice is to lower prices and expectations or step it up with delivering a quality product that is worthy of a fine dinning restaurant with fine dining prices.More

This was place was highly recommended by friends and now we know why! Amazing drinks, and even better food. I got the cippino and my love, the Kentucky fried chicken sandwich. We will definitely be back for more date nights :)

Cozy spot for a truly delicious dinner on a cold night. Service was superior and the advice on menu and wine was spot on. The menu is not extensive but we liked that it ran the gamut from appetizers and salads to sandwiches and entrees....Our party of 4 loved the lamb meatballs, the roasted chicken and the beef stew was to die for. The Arugula salad was also really well done and vegetarian options were plentiful. The server was sensitive to our questions about gluten and brought both bread and gluten free crackers. The staff are covid careful and seating was socially distant. There is also an outside seating area for when the weather permits. Don't miss this hidden gem!More

My husband and I have been to Burdick’s many times in the past . We were very disappointed when we went for dinner because the menu only had a few entrees . The majority of the menu was sandwiches and salads. My husband did get...a steak that was tough and only served with the choice of french fries. It certainly was not worth the money .More

Food was delicious. I had the quiche and my friend had the salmon salad. We had the soup of the day...potato leek. We enjoyed their tasty coffee and split a chocolate mousse dessert. The wait staff is friendly and engaging. We had a wonderful time.

We heard about this restaurant from a friend when we told her we were going to go to Stowe, Vermont. Her recommendation was so glowing we decided we had to try it. We are both foodies and our standards are pretty high. Both the service...and the food in this restaurant are stellar. The menu is creative and the food used in their dishes is locally sourced but what the chef does with those foods is perfectly executed. The deserts were incredibly good especially the blueberry/rosemary streusel. Our friend also recommended the hot chocolate which we tried the dark version of the three offered on our first visit. It was totally amazing so good that on the second visit we ordered a flight of all three. A one-word description of the flight of three is decadent. I highly recommend this wonderful place the fact that we got to see one of the owners, Ken Burns on the second visit was a highlight. Yes that Ken Burns.More
