There is a lot of competition for the prettiest village in New Hampshire, but Walpole wins that contest, the upscale restaurant in the heart of town, called Burdick’s is one reason why. It is a lovely space, with good French inspired food and a delightful staff....Burdick’s small, intimate dining area is a great locale for a anniversary celebration or other special occasion. We go there several times a year, but if you only go once, make a point of going on Bastille Day!More

the vegetarian dish was totally uninteresting ... the idea of deep frying a rabbit leg seemed strange to me and i was right ... it did not work ... there was nothing subtle about the cuisine ... it seems to attract a pretty privileged crowd...but not to deliver what we would expect. for some reason there were drafts everywhereMore

This restaurant is ok but for the price you’d be better off going someplace else. The French onion soup alone is $15.50. The menu does change with the seasons to mix things up a bit, which we like, but they used horseradish(one ingredient I dislike...and I’m not picky ) .. in a lot of their dishes and sauces when we were there. Sometimes simple is better .. maybe add a couple of dishes each season (besides the burger.. more choices!) that don’t have to have a paragraph under it on the menu to explain what it is. One of us did end up having the soup and burger which was delicious, but if you go there for a burger it’s just not worth the price.More

We were 2 couples who dined at Burdick's on recommendation. The ambiance is very nice. The menu is quite pricey, but has a lot creative options. One of us ordered baked chicken. Another ordered the rainbow trout. A third orders tuna and salmon wraps. All...these meals were winners. The squid ink pasta with capers and pine nuts however, was disappointing. It was so bland. Our meals took a full hour to arrive at the table. Also, we asked for ice, but it never arrived.More

We were ignored by the gentleman who seemed to be in charge. He greeted a couple but ignored we women sitting in the corner. We had to ask the bartender to come to our table to take our order. She forgot the salad then told...us it was menu change day and the people in the kitchen were trying to figure out how to make the salad. The burger was medium-rare but burned on the bottom??? Not a pleasant dining experience. Highly recommend the chocolate mice at the candy store next door.More

Met friends who have been numerous times before - now we know why, even though it was well over an hour's drive for us. Food and service were really good, and prices were reasonable for the quality. The quiches (both Lorraine and Florentine) were delicious,...and come with either salad or fries (tip - if there's two of you, order 1 of each - more than enough fries for 2). We'll be back here again, for sure.More

While spending a few days with friends in Vt we all headed over to Walpole to visit Burdick’s for brunch. Everything about the visit was 5 star. The space is lovely with outdoor seating available. The staff were completely professional. The menu contained traditional brunch...items as well as creative alternatives. There was an excellent selection of really well crafted specialty cocktails, and one of the best small wine lists I’ve ever seen in 40 years of travel. I mention this because wine lists are typically given short shrift or overlooked entirely in TA reviews when in fact, they are as important to the dining experience as are service and ambiance. A considerable amount of work is required to compile a list of the quality of Burdick’s and the individual responsible deserves kudos. Would love to go for dinner next time.More

We have been coming to this restaurant for many years and have loved it and recommended it to many people. Yesterday was a huge disappointment though. The service was beyond slow. The drinks took forever even though there were only a handful of people there...(at 3pm). The famous roast chicken was lacking, and the tuna salad tasted and smelled fishy. It is obvious they are struggling. Very sadMore

Beautiful fine dining! Attention to detail and tasty combinations. The roasted corn and hominy was perfectly cooked. Trout was moist and wonderfully seasoned. Lamb stew fell apart and the cilantro was a grest compliment.

We had a late lunch at 3PM on a weekday - and it was actually perfect for us! It was Wine Down Wednesday when many bottles are half off (and if you don't finish the bottle you can take the rest home). We took the...staff recommendation for a Malbec-like wine and it was spot-on. Our waitress was great at recommendations, checking in, and ensuring we had a relaxed experience. The food was so good - the mussles were not only plentiful (we had never seen so many in a serving) but perfectly prepared with ample bread for the broth. We ordered the gruyere omelette which was good, but the French onion soup and side order of pomme frites were even better. We left fully satisfied and thought we had a great value for our food. Thanks again for the great service and food (not to mention plentiful parking which is important in this location)!More

The cocktails are superb, seasonal. The service is excellent. The menu is anything but French-inspired. Feeble attempts at Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Korean....? All of those cuisines have a lot to offer but even if those dishes had a legit place in a French-inspired bistro setting,...the interpretation by the current chef is misguided at best. The current menu "update" is disappointing. Why not a truly seasonal offering? Stick with the classic, time-proven items that have been on the menu for 20 years. Add seasonal French or mediterranean dishes. Stop pandering to funky trends; what's next, Mongolian or Norwegian? -dpMore

This place can be good but you can’t count on it. For example the fryer was not working (The frites are a usual favorite). The side option became potato chips with an up charge for other options. Not what most fine dining places would do?...The level of service is variable the newer staff are not trained to the proper level for fine dining.More

I had dinner at Burdick's last night with a good friend. The food, as always, was excellent. The service, as always, was slow; our server appeared to be new and not once did she check on us -- whenever we needed something, we had to...hail her down. I know that restaurants are still gearing up to something like full capacity, so my friend and I were patient and polite. That is, until the manager sidled up (rather too close) to me on the banquette as we were waiting for dessert. I assumed he was sitting down to say hello, since I am a regular at the market next door (where he often sees me) and my friend is something of a regular in the restaurant. But no, he was there to lecture us on our wine consumption. With our meal, my friend and I each had three glasses of wine, roughly (though not quite) the equivalent of sharing a bottle; we chose to go by the glass because she prefers Pinot Grigio and I drink Sauvignon Blanc. When it was time to place our dessert order, I decided I was quite full from the previous two courses, but I would have another glass of wine to keep my friend company while she enjoyed her flourless chocolate cake and coffee. Since I wasn't driving, I didn't feel the need to have coffee. For some reason, our server voiced "concern" to the manager about that fourth glass of wine, and it was at first withheld. We were clearly not exhibiting any ill effects from the wine; we were simply two middle-aged women enjoying a night out, with plenty of great food and good conversation. We were not doing shots at the bar, spilling drinks, disrupting the meals of other diners, being rude to anyone, slurring our words -- nothing, NOTHING that would indicate we had had too much to drink. But rather than take a few moments to observe our behavior, the manager chose to chastise and lecture us in a very public and condescending way. We were told that the norm is one glass of wine per hour, and he noted that we had only been at the table for slightly less than two hours. I have no idea where he gets this "norm" -- any event planner will tell you to figure on one bottle of wine (roughly 6.5 glasses) for every two people every two hours. Our wine consumption was well within that recommendation, especially for a fine dining experience. We were also told what the legal blood alcohol limits are, we were asked who was driving home (it happened to be my friend, who had had three glasses and then coffee with dessert), and how far away we lived. The whole thing was intrusive and inappropriate. Finally, he seemed satisfied that we were not posing any danger to ourselves or others, and the last glass of wine was released. When the server brought it over, I questioned her about what she did. Was she complying with some management policy of withholding a fourth glass of wine? No. Had she observed any untoward behavior on my part or that of my friend? No. She finally said that she expressed concern because she knew that SHE would not be able to handle four glasses of wine. She based her completely unwarranted action on her completely subjective feeling that she -- weighing probably half of what I do and young enough to be my daughter -- would not be able to handle four glasses of wine. I would love to know what sort of training she has had, that she felt this was an appropriate way to treat a customer who was exhibiting nothing even close to drunken behavior. Needless to say, it will be a long time before my friend and I visit Burdick's again. And, we are owed an apology for the treatment we received.More

A delightful Brunch experience. From the dozen Oysters on The Half Shell to the best house-made Corned Beef Hash with Poached Eggs. And don’t forget to try the Burdick’s Bloody Mary made with house-made horseradish infused vodka and house-made Bloody Mary mix. The blue cheese...stuffed olives and pepper bacon make it extra special! Be sure to try the superb chocolate mousse for dessert! And I would be remiss if I did not mention the excellent service provided by our waiter, Jordan. Rarely have we encountered such a polite, well-mannered, attentive individual. Kudos to Burdick’s for hiring such superb wait staff.More
