First lobster roll of our trip and after trying a half dozen others up the coast of Maine, the flavor of the hot roll was the best we had during our trip. We visited the famous Red’s Eats as a worthy comparison and though Red’s has more meat, the Rye Harbor Lobster pound version had better flavor and is worthy of a visit. We’re not big fans of the cold lobster meat so we didn’t care for that option in any of our travels. We also found the lobster prices to be very good and we enjoyed a table by the water as we enjoyed the lobster rolls, chowder and lobster.

This little shed at Rye Harbor is deceiving from the outside. Don't be put off! It is, by far, the best place to get lobster and seafood. The lobster roll (either hot buttered or cold) is fabulous. The "fluffy chowder" is unbelievable...lobster (the "fluff") on top of clam chowder. Fabulous! The lobster mac n cheese is delicious -- multiple cheeses and lots of lobster. This place does a booming business on lobsters, too. The weekends are packed with people and takeout orders. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.

I have lived in New England for more than 25 years, and have sampled many, many chowders. What makes this one phenomenal is the butter and lobster on top of the clam chowder. Real pieces of meat on top and throughout. I had gone for a lovely bike ride on 1A, and this place would be easy to miss, as the storefront is small, but it was well worth the stop. I also enjoyed a tasty hot lobster roll; the hint of sherry on the lobster was very nice

To be fair, it doesn't look like much when you drive by. Just basically a hole in wall type joint among a bunch of shacks. However if you don't stop in you would miss probably the best lobster roll on the east coast. It was so big and full we had to eat it with forks. It's worth coming in from the interstate on a side trip to eat here. We will return.

Rye Harbor Lobster Pound was recommended by a friend for their lobster bisque! Words cannot describe the creamy flavorings that 4 to 6oz of lobster brought to this 16oz bisque! A culinary delight!

I read some mixed reviews of this place, but I give it two thumbs enthusiastically up! We stopped in to grab a quick bite after a morning whale watch and the chowders were excellent. If you choose lobster (and you should!) it's not cheap, but it's a very good value. The "fluffy chowder" had a layer of their lobster in brown butter and sherry on top, and it was one of the most delicious lobster preparations I've ever eaten. I thought that WAS the lobster in the chowder, but there were at least two whole claws and the better part of a full tail mixed in as well. All of the lobster was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The regular clam chowder was also very good, with plenty of tender clams and buttery potatoes. I would've liked to try the lobster mac and cheese, but it sold out.
If you go, take your appetite and a bit of patience. You'll order and pay at the counter, then someone will bring your order out to you. When we were there, the line was already quite long, but things moved right along and the staff were all friendly despite working at a feverish pace.
If we had been in the area again during our trip, I would've paid the $5 parking just to eat there again--it was a standout treat.

My wife and I visited during Labor Day weekend for lunch and ordered the warm lobster roll and fluffy chowder. Both were fresh and delicious. The lobster roll was packed with fresh tender lobster. There was a line out the door but I thought the service was pretty efficient and friendly. Next time I visit the area, I will be sure to visit for some Lobster Roll and Chowda again.

The warm (butter) lobster roll is to die for. Fresh. Delicious. Savory. The clam chowder is out of this world - but get the large one as the small isn't nearly enough. No alcohol, just soda etc. There are some benches a few feet away with beautiful views of the harbor. This is simple New England seafood at its most basic and satisfying. I saw some whole lobsters being picked up and I wish I had the time to try one, but next time for sure.....

Was told they had the best chowder around and to order it Fluffy.. so we did. That means it also comes with lobster and sherry butter. Rich and delicious. The lobster roll was the best I had in a weeks vacation. The most lobster… filled… however if they are going to butter the bun that much it needs to be a stronger one because the bun was mush.. had it not been mush it would have been the best lobster roll I’ve ever had. Would go back for sure.

This is seafood in the rough. A casual take out place with the best lobster roll I have ever had in New England. Huge chunks of lobster on a buttered toasted roll. Also got steamed clams which were great. My next NH visit, I plan to hit this place up several times. Hats off to the women who work really hard to get us this great seafood! They were super friendly.

Excellent all around. Been coming to Rye for eight years renting a cottage on RT 1A. Also hit RLP for a bowl of bisque and a lobsta roll. The owner remembered us! Service was head spinning fast. Got my bisque when we paid! Love this place, the food, and the peeps!

Sooo good! First stop on our way to Bar Harbor from Boston, and it set the bar high! Got the fluffy chowder and a hot lobster roll. Both did not disappoint! Even better, for entertained by the golden retriever while at the shack as well. Great job! We will definitely tell all our friends!

The food was top notch. Best fried clams I have ever had! The baked Haddock with Lobster stuffing was out of this world. The portion was huge as well.

Wonderful fresh seafood. My lobster roll was stuffed with lobster meat and delicious. Clam chowder was perfect and the shrimp cocktail was delicious as well. A hidden gem for sure.
