The food was top notch. Best fried clams I have ever had! The baked Haddock with Lobster stuffing was out of this world. The portion was huge as well.

The warm (butter) lobster roll is to die for. Fresh. Delicious. Savory. The clam chowder is out of this world - but get the large one as the small isn't nearly enough. No alcohol, just soda etc. There are some benches a few feet away...with beautiful views of the harbor. This is simple New England seafood at its most basic and satisfying. I saw some whole lobsters being picked up and I wish I had the time to try one, but next time for sure.....More
Sooo good! First stop on our way to Bar Harbor from Boston, and it set the bar high! Got the fluffy chowder and a hot lobster roll. Both did not disappoint! Even better, for entertained by the golden retriever while at the shack as well....Great job! We will definitely tell all our friends!More
Wonderful fresh seafood. My lobster roll was stuffed with lobster meat and delicious. Clam chowder was perfect and the shrimp cocktail was delicious as well. A hidden gem for sure.
I have lived in New England for more than 25 years, and have sampled many, many chowders. What makes this one phenomenal is the butter and lobster on top of the clam chowder. Real pieces of meat on top and throughout. I had gone for...a lovely bike ride on 1A, and this place would be easy to miss, as the storefront is small, but it was well worth the stop. I also enjoyed a tasty hot lobster roll; the hint of sherry on the lobster was very niceMore
To be fair, it doesn't look like much when you drive by. Just basically a hole in wall type joint among a bunch of shacks. However if you don't stop in you would miss probably the best lobster roll on the east coast. It was...so big and full we had to eat it with forks. It's worth coming in from the interstate on a side trip to eat here. We will return.More
First lobster roll of our trip and after trying a half dozen others up the coast of Maine, the flavor of the hot roll was the best we had during our trip. We visited the famous Red’s Eats as a worthy comparison and though Red’s...has more meat, the Rye Harbor Lobster pound version had better flavor and is worthy of a visit. We’re not big fans of the cold lobster meat so we didn’t care for that option in any of our travels. We also found the lobster prices to be very good and we enjoyed a table by the water as we enjoyed the lobster rolls, chowder and lobster.More
This little shed at Rye Harbor is deceiving from the outside. Don't be put off! It is, by far, the best place to get lobster and seafood. The lobster roll (either hot buttered or cold) is fabulous. The "fluffy chowder" is unbelievable...lobster (the "fluff") on...top of clam chowder. Fabulous! The lobster mac n cheese is delicious -- multiple cheeses and lots of lobster. This place does a booming business on lobsters, too. The weekends are packed with people and takeout orders. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.More
By the time we midwesterners finally reached the Atlantic, we desperately wanted serious sea food. Thanks to TripAdvisor, we chose this little seafood "shack" right on Rye Harbor. I had the seafood bisque in a take-out container. My husband had clam chowder. We both shared...their seafood salad--a mixture of ONLY seafood chunks with a lovely, savory dressing. We walked a few feet to get a view of the little harbor, sat at a picnic table, groaning with gustatory delight every few seconds. If we lived near there, I know we'd be regulars! Note: It's called a "pound" because they sell their seafood by the pound. We asked them!More
Lobster roll was honestly the best I ever had in my life.My family and I love her food. Fluffy chowder was amazing!!!! We were greeted by a beautiful, sweet, loving dog named Max and that made our day!! Great conversation with owner as she prepared...our food. If you want the best seafood in New England then this is the place to go. We will always be back!!More
Great place to get live lobsters! Great price as well. Have been there twice and will be back as soon as possible!
We hit up this seafood shack late on a Friday afternoon. It had a steady stream of customers, many doing takeout. We chose to eat at one of the three picnic tables available. The two of us decided to share a large Fluffy Chowder (a...rich, creamy clam chowder topped with a generous amount of lobster chunks poached in a sherry butter sauce) and Montauk Seafood Salad (shrimp, mussels, and scallops marinated in a light, lemony vinaigrette). Both were excellent. The woman working the counter was very friendly and welcoming. We'll be back.More
My first reaction is for the clam chowder base way, WAY too many white potatoes. Hardly any clams. All white potatoes. The lobster on top was rgood and pretty plentiful but I would not get it again since I feel sick from the massive amount...of potatoes.More
You cant go wrong here!! Frsh off the boat seafood, excellent portions and prices!! Seating is limited so take it to go eat in the car or break out some chairs. Its worth it!! This is not a sit down restaurant it is as pictured...a stand on the harbor. Fluffy chowder is amazing clam chowder with butter and sherry piled with lobster meat. It is a wonderful experience you'll never forget!!More
Rye Harbor Lobster Pound had been recommended by Yankee Magazine as one of the best Lobster Rolls in New England. We told my sister-n-law who beat us there and she recommended the Fluffy Chowder. Both were GREAT recommendations. We had a Fluffy Chowder (clam chowder...with lots of lobster meat floated atop) for starter and had a Lobster Roll for main. We had it warm (with melted butter) but they also have traditional with mayo. The warm was GREAT. But I also tried the Montauk Salad (shrimp, scallops and mussels in a lemony dressing; no pasta or filler of any kind, just seafood) to take home. It was excellent cold, but I also heated some in the microwave and had it atop pasta the next evening. All in all, GREAT food. The only problem is deciding what to take. Everything is SOOOO GOOD.More
