Great spot for a casual lunch or dinner. Wide variety of food, from burgers to lobster rolls. On Monday’s and Tuesday’s it is buy one lobster roll and get one free. Great atmosphere and yes they have a bar. Great place to gather for friends and family. They even have a butcher shop where you can buy meats and assorted foods from stuffed baked potatoes to different salads.

The food here is beyond fantastic and the portions are huge. I went for my birthday and my Girlfriend had the tips which were amazing and so tender you could cut them with a fork. I decided to splurge and have the lobster mac & cheese, which was so big it could’ve fed three people easily (see pics) . The casserole dish was bigger than my forearm. My look was out of amazement when the waitress put it down and my girlfriend happened to have her camera ready. That was not a rehearsed photo.

Tuckaway is now "Our Usual Steakhouse"

My wife and I arrived a bit early this day at 3:30pm to avoid the crowds. We were seated immediately in a good spot with little noise in the Bar area. Our waitress got to us quickly, maybe in a minute, and turned around our request for drinks in maybe 2 minutes. I started with a delicious and not too hoppy House IPA and my wife enjoyed a tasty Iced Tea. For this early Dinner, I ordered the 1 lb boneless Angus Rib Eye Medium Rare - on the Rare Side along with a House Merlot when my steak came out. For sides, I asked for Fries and the Maple Butternut Squash. My wife ordered the 1 lb of house marinated Sirloin Tips with smashed Potatoes and the Squash. All I can say is, both meals came out perfectly as ordered and both tasted even better. And, our waitress's timing for attentiveness was better than 5-Star. What more can I say other than to recommend fine service and both our meals to you.

Sadly service was slow

Extremely slow service. We waited two hours to be seated which is understandable because it’s a Monday and it’s BOGO free lobster roll day. But it took 20 minutes for our drinks to be refilled and over two hours for our meal from start to finish. Lobster rolls were good but nothing special. I doubt we will return anytime soon which is unfortunate because whenever we come to NH we have always enjoyed Tuckaway Tavern until today.

Ordered the soup and sandwich ($15). Would have preferred soup and salad but not on menu, ok. It comes with a side, ff, mashed or Cole slaw is what I was offered. I thought it was strange to get a side of mashed potatoes w a soup and sandwich lunch order but ok. The French onion soup was 3/4 filled with beef ( not onions) after I ate the broth, so if you want beef stew without vegetables, order the French onion soup. The other person received a salad as a side, I inquired as I wasn’t offered a salad, oh well. The other persons Cole slaw was hot on top and cold in middle as if sitting under a warmer. Ok. Just don’t order a soup and sandwich unless you want a grilled cheese and mashed potatoes, and a bowl of beef chunks. Can’t give better than a 3 for this.

So called butter!

Got the warm butter (and I use the word butter loosely) lobster roll. Asked the server if it was real butter, she said of course it is. Food came out the roll was so hard and stale I couldn’t even eat it. The so called butter is that oil blend restaurant are now using. Absolutely disgusting. I told the server it was not real butter it was oil blend. If you are advertising butter and your staff insist it it real butter. Don’t cheap out and use the oil blend. Let us choose something else we can enjoy instead of wasting our money on crap we don’t enjoy. Warm butter Lobster should be served with just that BUTTER. In no hurry to go back. Teach your staff to be honest about what you are serving.

With all due respect, you are not CLEARLY NOT the “foodie” you desire to be.. And CLEARLY don’t know what “butter” is. We don’t cheap out on anything and certainly not on one of the most important ingredients in a lot of our cooking. Perhaps Covid destroyed your palate or perhaps you just think you’re smarter than you are but our staff had it right and YOU, YOU have it WRONG! ✌🏻👌🏻

Positively 5-Star Steak with Fine Service

My wife and I had not been to The Tuckaway in a long time as it's a long drive and we usually prefer Seafood. However, we were hungry for Steak for our 57th Anniversary June 11th and remembered that we always liked The Tuckaway. After this meal of prime beef, The Tuckaway is absolutely our GoTo Steakhouse for dinner. We arrived early to meet a packed house and a long line. The young lady we spoke with checked around and gave us a 30-45 minute wait estimate. Hard to believe but she called us for a Table in a fast 24 Minutes. I figured we'd be seated at the Bar but we got a roomy table for two there which was not loud at all and the service was excellent. I started with a Harpoon IPA and my wife enjoyed Iced Tea. Our Waitress also quickly fetched me a glass of house Merlot just as our entrees arrived. My wife (normally not much of a beef eater) had the 1 pound of Steak Tips with house marinade and she finished every bite and rated them the best ever. I had the 1 pound boneless Ribeye Steak and rated it 5-Stars and tastier than the expensive Boston steakhouses. We both enjoyed Sides of Butternut Maple Squash while she had the Smashed Taters and I the crispy Fries. We passed on Dessert after all the outstanding beef, gave our Waitress a mark of Excellent for her fine service, and gave a big Thumbs Up on our way out to the young lady who took our request for dinner and got us seated at a fine table in 24 minutes.

First time visit

Three adults and two young children wanted to experience this well talked about restaurant. We were told and hour and fifteen minute wait. Timed it for that amount of waiting and it ended up 45 minutes longer. After seated, a 15 minute time till waited on. A young male waiter talked us out of what we wanted to order, talked too much not understanding we and the children were hungry. He was pleasant but I suggest being trained by a seasoned waitress to limit social time. The food was average though the amount is large. We were really disappointed by the whole experience. A new type of waiting system may help plus some training by experienced waitress/waiters. Feel free to experience a first time visit if you have hours to waste.

The wait is their marketing, the butcher shop is good but very expensive

The Tuckaway Tavern does not respect its customers' time. I have tried to go here several times but the minimum wait has always been no less than 90 minutes, and based on other reviews I'm seeing they tend to round down their estimates. Given that they sell T-Shirts bragging about customers needing to wait to eat there, it seems as if having a constant long line is a promotional tactic. We are still in a pandemic, so I would rather not wait around the dozens of other people who have given up their evening and weren't bothering with masks. Good times on a random Monday, when you'd figure they wouldn't be as busy. We ended up going to their butcher shop as a last resort and while the products were very good they were crazy expensive. I felt like the prices we paid there weren't all that different from what we would have paid in the restaurant itself, except we now had the pleasure of needing to prepare it ourselves. I can't see myself going back here unless they start treating their customers with a bit more respect and implement a reservations system.

Gathered with friends, at 11 am on a Saturday ~ the first time for all attendees. The experience was indeed true to the hype. Huge portions with each item ordered, our server (of five yrs) was informed, competent, efficient, and engaging with great suggestions of the variety offered. This makes the true meaning of "tipping" an easy method of rewarding a server for the individual presence they bring to the industry. Our selections varied from an enormous seafood pie, to ribeye and hamburger, both done to perfection ! Take homes a plenty. Great experience, and all are in agreement, to return.

This is a very busy place but worth the visit. We found seats at the bar. Service and food was excellent! We started with the shrimp appetizer- five stars! I had steak tips with house marinade and I think they are the best I’ve ever had. The price is a bit high but it’s a pound so I have plenty to bring home. My husband ordered pork chops and the order is two huge chops. They are prepared with apple jam and candied walnuts so they are slightly sweet but tender and he loved them. Meals come with two sides so usually plenty of leftovers! This is our favorite place for dinner.

Better first time

Had a salad first time I went; it was very good. Went back 2 weeks later got fish- po boy, it was over cooked with very little fish mostly batter. 2 little shrimp on top of overcooked roll. Could barely taste the sauce and very little coleslaw. I also agree with other customer very noisy and hard to have a normal conversation. I was very disappointed. Would not run back over there.

1st bad meal , ordered the “ Real Burger King” as usual Rare . I NEVER send back a meal but it was totally well done 😕 waitress was great and even got the Mgr to come over and agreed it was a mistake. No problem it happens , within 3 minutes I had another burger but it sure looked exactly like the 1st one and again waitress said yuppppp I’ll get the Mgr again . At that point I said forget it , I’ll eat it as my son was waiting and watching his birthday meal get cold . Well I passed after 2 bites and it was taken back and I wasn’t charged but a very dissatisfied day 😢 Probably won’t hurry back or at least not another $20 burger

not worth the hype

We went mid afternoon and the wait was still over an hour. Our waitress was pleasant but our table was not completely clean and the food took a long time to be served. My meal was cold. The serving sizes are massive - beware. Each entree is definitely enough for two ( or more) . It is a ridiculous amount of food. I wish they would respect people's time and take reservations - it is a place where you need a large window of time if you want to go there....in my opinion, it is not worth the wait

Average food /Average Service—-Ridiculously long wait for table

The burgers, which they are supposedly famous for, were average flavor at best. No seasonings added to meat?? While the burgers were relatively big (10 oz.) it was nothing to write home about. A steak tip order ordered as medium, came back medium-rare. A friend’s steak tip order ordered as medium-rare, came back well-done. The Mac and cheese side (with a $3 up charge, was almost tasteless, lacking in any decent flavor. Sorry, but for all the hype, it wasn’t worth the excessive wait.
