Ease your way in to a bright and brassy Sunday afternoon or moody weeknight when Rudi's charismatic atmosphere boasts an eclectic mix of downtown charm and uptown polish. Sample the freshest of local farms and Seaport bounties featuring a wide array of traditional dishes with signature twists.
My favorite thing to do at Rudi’s is to go to the cozy bar on the Congress Street side and order one of their deliciously hand- crafted martinis along with several of their fresh and delicious appetizers. They do have another nice bar at the...More
We had dinner with our son, his wife and her parents. It had been a while since we had all been together so we wanted to meet at a place that was very nice, not hurried with great food. Rudi's provided it all. Our meals...More
We held a rehearsal party at Rudi’s private room between the restaurant and front bar. Parking is on street and in the adjoining garage. The room was very nice and tables were set up with linens and really looked nice. We had 23 people that...More
We have been enjoying the food at Rudi's for many years. In our opinion, Rudi's serves the best food in Portsmouth! The new wine bar addition on Market Street is very nice. Great atmosphere in the wine bar and the dining room. Do yourself a...More
We had a nice brunch here and had Fried brie, ceasar salad among other things. All tasted very well in a relaxing environment. There was also a piano player and s8nger which completed the relaxing picture. We will definitely go back next time in Portmouth.
Rudi's is an 'above and beyond' experience is every way. We look forward to having a special dinner every time we visit Portsmouth. The food is unequaled and service attentive and wait help appropriately friendly and engaging. Atmosphere is wonderful and you're sure to make...More
We arrived at the end of happy hour to find a very friendly crowd and good drinks. Then, everyone else left, so we were the only people there, dining in a place that felt as if it was about to close. The food, however, was...More
Popped in at the bequest of a local couple who greeted us so warmly and gave us great info on local hotspots and places to check out. Though the kitchen was already closed they did make us 4 awesome desserts including creme brulee and warm...More
We had dinner here our last night in Portsmouth and were extremely happy with the choice. Husband had the pork chop, I had the swordfish, both were to die for, I had lemon cake for desert, also delicious. The bread was warm, plentiful and lovely,...More

I think it depends on how old the kids are. This is pretty much an adult, up-scale restaurant. there are two entrances on either side of the building, each has a bar, one with sofas and one where the jazz plays, and then there is the eating area.--White table cloths, it that helps. I have not seen kids there, but maybe in the back of the dining area away from the bar and if they are a bit older.
Across the street is Popovers which offers a lighter menu and is good for families. Down the street is Friendly Toast, used to be a slightly oddball but fun restaurant with lots of families. it just renovated so I cannot speak for how it is now. Down and across is Flatbread's Pizza--very popular with families. See my review.
