We drove the New Hampshire coast looking for the best lobster roll. This was our favorite of the traditional cold lobster rolls on a bun. Big delicious pieces of crab!

I live about 35 minutes from Sanders Fish Market. I'm a pescatarian and try to get wild cough/sustainably harvested fresh fish if possible. I usually shop at Sanders once a week or so. I called before driving down to see if they had Halibut since...they were out. I was told they did. I went, ordered, and the person behind the counter looks in the case and then said.. oh, I guess we're out of it. I could tell by her tone that she is the one I spoke with on the phone. I am not the type to be mean/rude, so I ordered haddock instead thinking I could have gotten haddock at the place ten minutes from my house. I go to checkout and she rings me up for halibut which is about double the cost. I don't mind taking the extra time to drive to Sanders as they have a better selection and great quality. It's very frustrating when I invest over an hour of my time, verify by phone, and am not able to get what I wanted.More
...right in the town somewhere. It was awesome. I had a classic with light mayonnaise. These people know what they were doing I'll tell you. I'm definitely going to get another one before I leave town.
After visiting some of my favorite places in Portsmouth, I headed for Sanders Fish Market for a lobster roll with a stop next door at South Street & Vine first to browse their wonderful cheeses. At Sanders Fish Market, I got my Lobster Roll at...$14.99 + tax. My visit was during the COVID-19 outbreak, so all food had to be packed to go. It was quite busy when I was there. There was about a 15-minute wait for my order. So, I stepped outside and checked out the adjacent Harold “Whitey” Whitehouse Bridge that spans the inlet from the Piscataqua River that brings water to the two sections of the south Mill Pond. At home with the lobster roll, I found it to be just what I expected of Sanders Fish Market. It was LOADED with flavorful lobster meat in their large round toasted Kaiser-type roll that tasted buttered. The lobster meat was fresh and tender, of course. It had a light touch of mayo. Some of the buttery taste from the roll extended into the lobster meat. It was great! I’d been surprised that the $14.99 price had held since my last visit in July 2016 --- nearly four years earlier. And, the quality and quantity of lobster meat was still the same, too. As before, for the maintaining excellence of service and the food, I still rate Sanders Fish Market at 5.0 and highly recommend the lobster roll there. These are the best lobster rolls on the coast! Chunks of lobster with just enough mayo to hold things together!
One evening after a long day of sight seeing, we decided to order fresh steamed lobsters - Sanders was perfect. I called ahead and they were ready and perfectly steamed. Along with salads ordered from room service at our hotel (Wentworth by the Sea) and...a bottle of Rombauer's chardonnay, it was a perfect evening on our balcony. When leaving Portsmouth for home, we took two fresh lobster and grilled them that night, extending our special vacation dinners just one more night. Good service, very prompt, and an excellent selection of fresh seafood!More
Stopped in because we were in the area. Great selection of fresh fish/seafood. Not far ( 1/2 mile) from downtown Portsmouth. Sabrina was most pleasant and helpful. Stop in... you won’t be disappointed.
This is a lovely little fish market that also makes fresh seafood sandwiches and even sells a bit of coffee and produce. Clean and nice service and places to sit inside (it was hot that day). I ordered a lobster sandwich and my husband ordered...a crab sandwich. Both were delicious. Fresh, fresh, fresh. The bread was yummy and the meat was tender and not drowning in mayo/sauce. The lobster sandwich was $17 but you get what you pay for. Just a perfect way to begin a seaside stay.More
This is primary a local seafood market with other local groceries; however, there are some cafe tables to sit at while you eat and the lobster roll was fresh and delicious! They have chowder which smelled great (didn’t eat) and lots of yummy freshly baked...goods to go. I would go back again and again!! Very friendly employees and no rush to pay...More
Very friendly staff. Self-service for chowder. Chowder was creamy, thick, flavorful at reasonable prices. There were tables inside for seating. Fresh fish, including crab and fish cakes. Small market area with milks, cheeses, frozen goods. Locally baked cookies, bars. Yummy!
We had seen a You-Tube video for this place and how great the Lobster rolls were. My husband had never had one, so we stopped in. Both of us were very disappointed in the quality of the Lobster roll. The bun was not toasted and...the roll had no flavor.More
Abundant Lobster roll on a nice toasted bun, great selection of locally caught fresh fish and lobster, selections will be packed for travel if need be,stopped before leaving town, now know why tourists and locals rave about this family owned fish market Wow!!!
If you love seafood this is your place to stop. This place is extremely clean, has a beautiful selection of seafood and fish, and the clams are the best. Love this place.
Wonderful clam chowder, thick, rich, seasoned perfectly. They put away The clam chowder pot gets out away after 5 o’clock, even though they close at 6 o’clock. So I purchased a cold bowl and they warmed it up for me, and I walked around the corner...and ate it while I watched the river run by.More
While this establishment has both cooked items to eat there and fresh seafood to take home, the menu is very restricted and seating is limited. If you have a dog, you can eat outside on a single bench. While the management has no control over...this fact, most of the selections are either farm raised or foreign caught.More
