My wife had the Diver Scallops and I had the pan seared Halibut. Still one of our very favorite places in this restaurant laden area. Simply fantastic seafood. The kind of meal you marvel over while eating and continue to talk about all night and into the next day!

Jay's sets the tone for the wonderful town of Portsmouth. Casual, but elegant with a great mix of people and a friendly, warm feeling. Staff is patient and helpful, wine list terrific and the menu exciting. We were lucky enough to sit by the window and watch the vibe of the city while enjoying a really exceptional meal. Great fun!

I just went here for the first time and thought it was great. Service was friendly and attentive. Menu which was primarily seafood had plenty of fresh fish to choose from. I had the tuna and it was a perfect piece, seared rare. Loved the sauce it came with. Mashed potatoes a little boring and could have been warmer. The... More

My wife and I ate at Jumping Jays on August 16, 2016 while vacationing in Portsmouth. We arrived around 5:45 pm, and the restaurant was about one-third full. We were promptly seated and given a menu. The menu consists of various seafood entrees at above average prices. As an appetizer my wife and I ordered stuffed cherrystone clams. For our... More

My husband and I ate here on our last night in Portsmouth. The food was good, but I enjoys my meal at Surf by far better than here. The mussels were good and the sauce was nice to dip bread in. My shrimp scampi was ok, I've had much better. My husband enjoys his monkfish but the mashed potatoes that... More

After traveling 10 plus hours to arrive in Portsmouth for the night, we checked into our hotel and decided to check out a locals favorite (based on Trip Advisor reviews). Since it was past our usual dinner time, and getting late, I decided to check with Jumpin' Jays to see if they do carry out (no reservations available for 4... More

My hubby and I made reservations ( really not needed) had a really sweet waitress. We sat kinda in a walkway area so the atmosphere was just ok to crappy. We had the appetizer that had all the raw seafood. I ate the shrimp he had the rest. He loved the oysters. It only had 4 oysters, two small shrimp,... More

I've been going here for years; couples, work, solo bar visits - the food here is amazing and always fresh and on point. If you're going for the first time I'd suggest hitting the bar, whether your alone for with a friend of three - the bartenders are personable, and this is the best spot to meet folks, chat and... A fancy little place that made us so happy the staff at the Sheraton recommended. Although not on the waterfront, it is a cozy restaurant with lively, attentive and joyful staff. Everything we ordered was on point - from the appetizer to the desert! This place exuded good honest cooking and the chef has mastered the art of sauces for... More
