Old book store with a bar and great folk music that night. Quintet of ladies with fiddle, banjo. piano, drums and guitar. This is a very politically liberal place which you can overlook.

This is a nice place to browse for books, have a bite to eat and a drink, and relax. Has a great selection of books. Good place to relax with friends and family.

A great little place. Books, a variety of coffees including cappuccino, teas, and beers with bands or readings weekly. How can you go wrong with that. I have seen a couple bands play here - their great and it's a very comfortable atmosphere, dimly lit...More

- Atmosphere: Imagine sitting in a library with a bar. Music playing in the background. It is spacey with comfortable seating opportunities - My view: Personally I love it, need to find a similar combination back home. - People: The people/staff are great/kind (mostly alternative/hipster/students)

John runs Portsmouth Book and Bar. He caters to junkies -- book junkies, music junkies, coffee junkies, dessert junkies. He is a pusher and I love the level of civilized life that he has imported from Newton to Portsmouth. Thanks, John

There is so much to love about this place. It's a restaurant with artisan offerings in a used book store in an architecturally significant building. First the food. It was mid- morning so I had Nana's Farm: a breakfast sandwich with egg, melted cheddar cheese,...More

A great little place! Can’t beat coffee, beer, and books! Great setting and friendly staff. My wife and I lost well over an hour here enjoying slow brewed ice coffee and scouring the book selection!
