Today the food was great, received what we ordered and flavor perfect, like it used to be except new coffee not what it use to be. New pull up napkins are so rough and small can scratch delicate skin. Our waitress Rebecca was absolutely perfect....Made us want to come back. Would be five stars if you bring back your original coffee. Things had been slipping, not completely cooked wrong ingredients and over stressed absent rude servers so today felt like coming back home thank you keep up the good work.More

We were looking for someplace between Beverly MA and Biddeford ME and Portsmouth tight off the highway seemed about right. There was a short wait before being seated and we were still waiting for our son and DIL. Hostess was very nice. We were seated...and the waitress came right over. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. The waitress was very nice and pretty new. She did a good job and we were able to joke with her. We ordered our food and it was an average time to get our food. My wife had the club sandwich and I had the turkey dinner, both were good. Our DIL has a quesadilla and my son had chocolate chip pancakes, both meals were good. The place reminded me a little like Governor’s Restaurant. It is a good meeting place for us.More

Roundabout Restaurant Portsmouth NH a classic diner with music from the 50s-60s, a separate lounge & bar for privacy. Superb customer service... Sydney H. was our great wait person for dinner, and Jen even better for our group breakfast. Outside diner you are greeted by...the lovely music, and a heated entry was a plus. Immaculately clean throughout!More

It was a rainy day and the Roundabout Diner was crowded. We sat in the waiting area - about a fifteen minute wait. We were escorted to a table in an inner dining room with both booths and tables. Décor is fun with sixties theme,...a bit of neon. Menu is extensive...Both breakfast and lunch were available and we chose lunch ordering a crock of clam chowder and corned beef sandwich. The chowder was good and came with croutons instead of oyster crackers. Interesting touch. The sandwich came toasted with thick slices of corned beef that were tasty, nice and lean. But the addition of cheese was a bit of overkill, making it too heavy. Perhaps we would have been better ordering breakfast as nearby tables' food looked appetizing. This is a good place for those on the road needing a rest stop and hearty food. Don't expect anything over the top.More

My daughter and I come here on our yearly trip. We stay at the attached Best Western. The food and service are top notch. Beware, the servings are HUGE. I had the turkey dinner last night. It honestly could have fed three adults. Don’t pass...up the chocolate mousse cake (the slice could feed the same three adults).More

Breakfast food was good & 50’s-60’s atmosphere was good. Wait staff was not so good - grumpy, I don’t want to be here attitudes, few if any smiles ! Several visits without noticeable improvement ! No more chances !

Had heard folks talk about this restaurant and so we tried it. Lots of people waiting but we got seated in about 15 minutes. Two of us had breakfast and two of us had lunch. Lunch was average. I had pulled pork which I wouldn't...recommend. The baked beans were from a can. Reuben was also average. Think others liked their breakfast. I suspect lots of folks come here from hotels that are nearby. Not sure why Phantom Gourmet would go here. It's diner food. Had good service, though. Would I go back, nah.More

We went for breakfast and waited 45 minutes for the food. The waitress came over and said they forgot to make your breakfast. It did come out a while after that but the serving size was so small for the omelet. My Monte Christo barely...had any ham. It is well overrated.More

I recommend this place to everyone I speak to. I went to meet some clients for lunch one day. I got there a little early to make sure I was able to get a table. In small talk with the hostess, I asked her if...she were me, what would she order. She said the pulled pork mac and cheese is really good but there are known for the hot open-face turkey. This young lady wasn't kidding! ---!!!!!!!!!!--- Just do it. You won't be disappointed. I need to make my way back to Portsmouth just to make sure I stop and visit here again.More

Stopped here before college drop off in Maine. Had heard of it from Phantom Gourmet but was seriously underwhelmed. Maybe we just didn’t order right? Reuben sandwich had thick corned beef (not shaved) that was rubbery and not cooked long enough. Breakfast bowl was heavy...on potatoes and light on eggs, served with burnt toast. To be fair, others in our party enjoyed the avocado toast & the cinnamon bun French toast. Home fries were tasty.More

We went for lunch and we’re seated immediately in a booth. There is a substantial menu ranging from appetizers to main courses, burgers, salads…. There were 4 of us and we ended up ordering 2 BBQ taco lunches and 2 Cuban sandwiches all with fries....There are 3 very stuffed tacos in the order…and plenty of salsa and sour cream on the side to add on. Very delicious…and the bbq was tender and yummy. The men decided on the Cuban sandwiches and both devoured the oversized sandwiches. The service was excellent and the restaurant was clean as was the bathroom. The dessert case was filled with delicious looking delights! Next time we will come for dessert and coffee!More

Breakfast was of mediocre quality, low when compared to national chains such as Perkins. Service was perfunctory at best. Nothing about this experience was terrible, simply mediocre at best.

This review is specifically for Mr. Wooley(?), the manager(?), not for the Roundabout Diner as an establishment itself. We've been here many times over the years and have always enjoyed our experiences. We often rendezvous with family and friends here to meet up and grab...lunch before jumping back on the highway for whatever road trip we were on. Retro atmosphere and classic dishes and they have a great Sunday brunch!! Today we unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience at the Roundabout Diner. :( I pulled into the parking lot at 3:45pm (on a Monday) with my wife and son and parked in a spot. The parking lot was nearly empty, 1-2 cars at most. Less than a minute later my 70 year old mother pulled in next to us with our other son who we were picking up. They were just arriving from Florida. Our son flew down to do the long drive up with her. She was heading further north on her own. We were parked for all of 4-5 minutes giving hugs and transfering my sons bags into our car when the manager walked up and asked if we were checking into the hotel or heading into the restaurant. We said we weren't sure but that we were just picking our son up first. He said that we can't park or meet here so we attempted to apologize and move along as he implied. He then said why did you park here? I said that we were just meeting very briefly. His body language and tone became aggressive . "Why do you think it's ok to park here?" I said if you have this much of a problem with people using your lot to meet maybe you should have a sign stating so. He pointed to the roundabout diner customer parking sign and said "we do." He kept saying you can't park here aggressively as we were trying to leave as he'd asked." We pulled out and waited at the entrance for my 70 year old mother to follow. We noticed that she had walked over to him, she told us later to appologize that we didn't see the sign. She said he started being aggressive asking her name, why she thought she could park here and so she turned to walk away and just leave but he followed her standing so close to her car window after she'd got in that she could barely pullout to leave. He additionally started taking photos of her, her car, and her plates. When he noticed we were waiting for her in the exit he hustled to the exit to take photo/video of our vehicle as well. We debated calling the police until she was able to pull out and leave. This man's behaviour was ridiculous and uncalled for. It felt like he was trying to pick a fight. I'm assuming from his actions that the Roundabout Diner must have a problem with people using their parking lot to meet up while on the road. I can understand this, we won't do it again now that we know. Honestly if it's this big of an issue I recommend cleary marking your parking lot with a sign saying something like "Please No Meet Ups, Loitering or Idling" because "Parking for Roundabout Diner" doesn't really tell me it's against the law to pull in for literally a few minutes to meet someone and decide where we might go to eat (Probably there!) We chose to meet at this location so we had the option to eat there. The parking lot was nearly EMPTY!! Really!! WTH Mr. Wooley, you have some serious people skill issues and should not be working in hospitality. The Roundabout Diner would do themselves a favor by getting rid of Mr. Wooley as it was pretty clear to us that he is likely chasing people away. That's certainly how we felt. We probably would have gone in to grab an early dinner or at least some ice cream before we left.More

Last Saturday there was a sign on two of the doors entering the diner that said that their computer was down and there was an ATM machine available. I used it knowing there would be a fee and wasn't happy about it but I have...always enjoyed the food, atmosphere and wait staff, When I asked the hostess how long the computer had been down she said that it wasn't. I told her about the sign and that I had just paid a 3 dollar fee and wasn't happy about it. She told me she would take down the signs right away. Someone had clearly not been paying attention to that situation and I ended up paying another 2.50 from my bank. In addition, there was a man that kept walking around but not really doing anything and by his appearance I wanted to ask my waitress if he was kitchen staff or maybe homeless. His hygiene (hair) and baseball cap and t-shirt without a logo for the diner (?) added to the perception that something was off. It took quite awhile to realize that he was one of the wait staff and was clearly attentive to his customers but management needs to make it clear that his appearance was not up to the standards of this diner that has been around a long time. The food was excellent and my waitress Sydney was efficient, friendly and went above and beyond. Shedeserves kudos.More
