Although my wife and I have eaten here a few times this visit I went with ten other male friends for dinner. In the past I’ve always eaten on the street level, but this time we ate upstairs because that is where the restaurant has...room for a table large enough to seat 11. I started with a draft Negra Modela and I probably would have had a couple more if I wasn’t driving. The chips came with both salsa Rojas and salsa verde with the verde being somewhat spicier. For my meal I tried a Fajita Burrito, which was quite good and almost to much to eat. Overall both the food and the service were very good.More

Overall, the food is good, but not spectacular. Menu has a broad selection, with something for pretty many ch everyone. Margaritas are very good....

I was on a solo trip on my way to Maine and I fell in love with this New England town!! I had the grilled shrimp salad with delicious, sweet chopped mango and avocado and this incredible green chili salad dressing. The atmosphere was inviting,...the staff were extremely friendly and the food was served quickly. I will definitely return the next go aroundMore

Whenever in Portsmouth, Agave is a must stop for our family. We have a member who must eat gluten free and there are always good options. The meals are tasty, not too hot, just right( I don’ mind hot). You will not be disappointed with...signature drinks as well.More

I hadn't been to Agave in a while, and I stopped by for an early supper. Had the raspberry margarita and a bowl of their cocido de pollo (slightly spicy chicken soup). For $10, the soup was a poor value -- it wasn't spicy at...all, the broth was watery thin and tasteless, and there was barely any shredded chicken. I've had Mexican soup before at other restaurants, and it's always been much more substantial than this pitiful serving. Since the margarita was pretty good, I'll give it an average rating at best this time around.More

There are a number of places to eat in Portsmouth, but Agave is our favorite. It is of the main path, but worth the walk. The food quality is matched by the service. It is a friendly no rush kind of place to enjoy a...good meal at a good price. When you are done you are only minutes from Prescott park!More

I have eaten at Agave several times in the past couple of years, and I regret to say that I think it's going downhill. The food is all right, when I'm hungry. I shovel in to the first several bites happily. Then it starts to...seem kind of boring, ready-made, mass-produced, and unimaginative. The service lately has been somewhere from peremptory to slack, and the floor is sticky. I am not planning to go again. This makes me sad since it was for a while a perfectly OK Mexican place, not gourmet but I was not looking for gourmet.More

Stopped by a little after noon on a Friday and were greet promptly and seated. Our server, Megan, was excellent and knowledgeable. I opted for the quesadilla with the steak and my wife had the tostada with chicken. Both were well prepared and very tasty...with a nice guacamole added. The wife had a margarita with a touch of jalapeno which she totally enjoyed. The entire experience was good enough to rate a return visit and to recommend to others.More

The House margaritas are very good. Only $6 at Happy Hour. The nachos are just how I like them, lots of cheese. The guacamole bowl is prepared right in front of you, the kids enjoyed watching.
