We were in Portsmouth for the weekend attending an alumni event. We were looking for a light breakfast. We came across The Goods Market and were not disappointed. The breakfast sandwich on flat bread and the smashed avacado toast hit the spot. Like most eateries,...I think they were short-staffed but the woman in the front greeted us with a smile.More

Thoughtful menu, great flavors, marred by perfunctory cashier and kitchen staff. Barista was a great customer service team player and corporate representative. Cashier looked out at us, made no acknowledgement and ducked back behind wall, not returning until ringing bell and a yell to the...back by other team member. Cashier arrived not making eye contact or pleasantry, “What can I getcha?” Then upon presenting our bill with a hundreds of dollars overcharge, offered no apology but explained that it wasn’t her fault, but that the toast she entered showed up at $300.00. At any rate, an invoice to a patron is akin to a paycheck, in the almost sacred trust required between the two parties. When something is grossly wrong, the professional behind the counter should see it, fix it and take ownership, not leave it to the guest to discover the lapse then hear excuses. Food good; coffee drinks very good; back of the house team perfunctory and cashier had poor customer service. Portions small but flavorful. Later-in-the-day home fries less than bountiful and moribund.More

I drove all the way here from the Salem, MA area one morning when I was in a really low spot. I ordered french toast and a coffee to stay. The woman who owns this place makes the food, and sees to every customer with...so much love and it was felt and I want her to know that. The french toast was unreal and the coffee was bracing. After the morning rush she went around asking everyone if they were happy, and she was REALLY asking. I'm so glad that out of all the places I stumbled upon (because I didn't know where I was going) this was the place I came to. Can't recommend it enough.More

Good breakfast sammies BUT “make it a meal” home fries are shamefully overpriced at $3 for maybe enough to fill an 8oz dry measure cup. Appalling.

Discovered this on day one, and went back every day of our visit! The menu is excellent, full offering of healthy options, gluten-free, vegan, you name it. Everything was fresh, pretty sure they must have been picking the avocados right before serving them! We enjoyed...breakfasts and lunch. Popular yes, quite busy at lunch on the weekend especially (ok, it was 85 degrees after all), but absolutely worth it. As for the staff - brilliant. Young lady making drinks had a huge personality that just lifted the atmosphere, whilst we enjoyed a wonderful, down-to-earth, captivating chat with another staff member who is headed to college in the Fall (hope it goes wonderfully well for you!). In short, you won’t be disappointed. I bet you’ll visit more than once.More

Got the Chiang Mai bowl to go (red curry coconut broth, noodles, chicken). It was more of a large cupful than a bowl. The thin noodles sopped up most of the broth, and the diced chicken pieces were tough and flavorless. I've gotten better Thai...bowls at supermarkets and specialty food stores. Certainly not worth $10. Normally I'd rate this a 'poor', but they have other menu items that are pretty good, and it's Christmas.More

Looked up great salad places in Portsmouth and so glad we picked this place! We shared the Waldorf salad for a light early lunch and it was delicious! Great outdoor seating and very cute little store inside!

I was looking forward to getting a matcha this morning. I show up around 7:10. The person there (possibly the owner) made me feel like I was really imposing on him by ordering a drink. I asked if they had any pastries, as advertised, and...he blew me off. After he made my drink he put it on the counter with a dismissive “here.” Oh well, guess I won’t bother them anymore! Oh, the latte? Meh.More

I frequent the Goods 2 or 3 times per week. They have amazing egg sandwiches made fresh when you order. There are a multitude of options of how you can get it made. I like it on an english muffin or bagel. You can add...whatever you want like bacon or sausage or spinach just to name a few. What is appreciated about this is some establishments have egg sandwiches that are pre made or scrambled eggs. This is a flavorful, delicious fried egg not scrambled and not pre made. I have also had their turkey sandwich and chicken salad wrap. Both are fresh and simple, yet the taste is uniquely flavorful with quality ingredients. This is the perfect place for a quick breakfast or lunch. The service is friendly and the owner very personable. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid back. There are stools or a couch as options for sitting and relaxing. I recommend for easy, reasonably priced, scrumptious breakfast or lunch!More

Cute little place, food was very good and the woman who brought our food to us was quite friendly (maybe the owner?). Unfortunately the man who initially took our order was not. Maybe he was having a bad day. We went in for breakfast at...around 10:30 a.m. My husband asked “are you still serving breakfast?” Instead of a friendly “yep, we serve breakfast all day!” he said “well, it’s only 10:30” in a sarcastic tone. Not sure where that came from! We ordered (at the counter) sat down and I went looking for the restroom. Door locked, so asked for the key. Same guy pointed and said “on the corner.” I didn’t see it so he walked over (three steps), with apparent annoyance, and showed me. The key was literally camouflaged (taped to a tree twig, leaves and all). I’m not sure why he was so annoyed with me. :( I would go back for the food (would love to try the lunch menu) but with some trepidation.More

We had a great breakfast at the Goods last weekend. The highlight was the brooklyn-style gluten free bagel! The staff was very knowledgeable about gluten allergies and helpful when ordering. Coffee was great too, and the ambiance is fun and cozy.

The Goods is a busy, cozy café and market on the Vaughan Mall closer to Congress Street than to Hanover Street. It serves breakfast all day with foods such as bacon and eggs, egg sandwiches, bagels, and pastries. It has more extensive menu selections for...lunch which include wraps, subs, pizza slices, whole pizzas, and salads. The Goods also offers a wide variety of beverages from coffees and teas to all kinds of soft drinks, juices, smoothies, beer, and wine. The décor was very typical of a fashionable café/coffee bar. It had a counter with high stools, a counter in the front window with high stools, and a cushioned settee with three wooden crates standing on end to function as a coffee table. On my visit, I got a decaf coffee and a toasted asiago bagel with cream cheese. With tax, the total was $4.80. I fixed my coffee at the coffee station. Then, I sat in the front window on the settee and enjoyed the coffee which was very good. It was about a 20-minute wait for my food. The bagel was toasted lightly ~ just the way I like mine. It was only warm. I’ve had thicker bagels than this one. The portion of cream cheese on it was quite skimpy. I was not impressed with any part of it. My overall experience at The Goods was good. I rate it at 3.75. The coffee and the ambiance created by the décor and arrangement of the market goods contributed greatly to the well-above-average rating. I can recommend stopping by far a snack and a beverage when looking for those items in the Vaughan Mall vicinity. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below.More

I stopped by for the first time and ordered their cubano sandwich. The wait time was a bit long, but the sandwich was worth the wait -- it was delicious. It would be nice if they offered a few chips or pickles to go with...their sandwiches. There's an outside eating area that's very pleasant in nice weather.More

Loved the fresh food and espresso. Only a few places to sit buy a chill atmosphere. We had soup and sandwich/vegetable curry for lunch with our lattes. They also sell truffles, which by the look of the place are fresh made in house. Also, snacks,...beer, wine and some food stuffs. Convenient to the downtown hotels and Portwalk Place.More
