This is a very popular shop with everything from coffee to wine, sandwiches, snacks, you name it. They’ve got some outside seating, making it a great place to people-watch. Our first time here….enjoyed it.

Whenever I'm visiting the White Mountains region, I have to swing by Plymouth where I spent two fun but angst-filled years as a college student many moons ago. Cafe Monte Alto is a favorite stop. They have really good coffee. The few standout restaurants they had in Plymouth in my heyday were the diner (still there) and Anthony's Pizza (long gone).

This gem was such a fabulous find! The coffee is rich and flavorful. They offer alternative milks and a variety of sizes. I hesitate to recommend the cold brew because it’s so GOOD and I don’t want them to run out! ❤️ seriously you’d be hard-pressed to find better coffee in North America. A must-visit every time we are in the area!

I got a cappuccino here while visiting the Chase Street Market part of the building. I've always liked the vibrant atmosphere (lots of Plymouth College students) here.

The owner of the cafe is rude, and he gets in the staff's personal business. In addition, he left his staff, and customers in hot weather without an air-conditioner for weeks when the weather was hot and humid.

We went here for breakfast because we wanted something quick and a good cup of coffee. But you get inside and it’s confusing! To order breakfast you have to walk to the back of the store to the right, and all the breakfast choices aren’t even listed on the board. We chose a loaded scrambled egg meal.... you can choose any number off eggs you want and any ingredients you want for a custom dish. It was delicious but then you have to go to the front of the store to order your drink, and again, selections weren’t on a board. Then you go the middle of the store to pay! We waited quite awhile for our “concoctions”. Probably wouldn’t go back though. It seemed chaotic.

Unfortunately, we can only speak to the hot cocoa which we describe (to anyone who will listen) as "liquid pudding". We drive all the way from Portsmouth NH to get it since nothing else compares for miles and miles. This last time we each tried to finish off an extra large with whipped cream and hurt ourselves. We will not make that mistake again, believe me. I graduated from Plymouth State COLLEGE in 1989. If Café Monte Alto had been around way back when, I never would have had beer money.

Stopped by while on a foliage road trip. Good coffee, pastry, vibe. Hasn't changed since my last visit. Just wish they were around when I went to Plymouth State.

I am always in search of the perfect cup - and well, I found it at Cafe Monte Alto - be DARK ROAST beans i've found. I order 2 bags every 2 weeks and would be lost without them. I hope they never go out of business. Every guest I have to my home loves my coffee. I brew it with a Bonavida coffee auto drip coffee maker each morning - hot or iced! it's be best dark roast around!

Thank God my parents still live in the area, and I come up regularly. Monte Alto is a must stop, not only to get a delicious hot beverage- but to stock up on Dark Roast beans to bring home- nothing compares to this. It is always fun coming to Monte Alto, as it seems like the whole town is there and it is nice to catch up with people and see familiar faces.

While staying in Ashland NH, we drive to this coffee shop almost every day with our kids to relax with a super hot drink. We loved their coffee- we are huge coffee snobs, and it was excellent. The kids loved their hot chocolate, and we all enjoyed the fun laid back atmosphere and wifi. They have lots of different, fun “real” mugs at the front to choose from to make the experience even more unique.
