We are repeat customers. This was another wonderful meal except for the quail appetizer which was tough and almost unchewable - not sure what went wrong there. I should have sent it back. However everything else was delicious. The hanger steak was so tender it...fell apart with a fork. I miss the chef explaining the dishes!!!More

Had dinner here recently with friends and enjoyed it very much. The format has changed, not permanently, I hope. I liked the fixed price format and limited menu. While the food is great, the older format leant itself to service and time to enjoy the...ambiance. I liked Brian coming out to explain how the meal was produced and why. I think it gave more information and appreciation for what was being served. As always, a reservation here is a necessity. The service is excellent without overpowering the guest. We enjoyed the outdoor seating and hope it will continue, but the smell of the torches was unpleasant. Could we find another solution to insects not quite so offensive?More

Entrees were excellent (lamb chops and salmon). We had this as takeout. Bread was disappointing (kind of stale) and sides (same for both entrees and put in one container) were fine but seemed like only one servingMore

Thanks Bill. Yes, they say a very famous theme song was inspired by that very setting of the Moon rise over the mountain. So glad you enjoyed your dining experience and we look forward to your next visit.

Excellent food and atmosphere. The chef briefly explains the meal and many of the locally sourced ingredients. The salmon and celery root main courses were amazing. The leek soup was just the right way to start the meal. The chocolate pudding was just enough after...the amazing meal. My sister had the steak and she said it was delicious. It’s a perfect place to go for a special occasion! I’m going back for the Sunday brunch.More

This was our first visit here and we were very impressed! The food was exquisite in taste and presentation. The pace of the courses was perfect. I go to New London about 3-4 times per year, but have never dined at the Oak & Grain before. My college roommate (from a few years ago :)) came with me. I wanted to take her to nice restaurant. Turns out it was not...the one I thought I made a reservation, however, the Oak & Grain exceeded my expectations. There was only 1 seating of about 10 tables. The five course meal was spectacular. There were two options with each course and each had its own optional wine pairing. Perfection. The staff was so accommodating. At one point, they let me try both dishes. I know ridiculous right? I did send my glass flying across the room, not sure how, it shattered everywhere and within 20 seconds they had it cleaned up and brought me another glass. (No I was not intoxicated, just overly stimulated being a foodie and all). Unfortunately we did not benefit from the lovely view as it was already dark, but I am confident it could not have made the evening any better. I am planning to stay in the inn soon. This is a not to miss special dining experience.More
