The food at Oak and Grain is absolutely top notch. Everything is very fresh, and sourced locally (when a local source is available).

Celebrating a belated anniversary, we hadn't been out very often for a few years, so looked forward to a fabulous dining experience. When seated, I didn't consider the empty eight-top behind me. Opting for the passion fruit margarita cocktail special, we couldn't taste any booze...or passion fruit—the short glass was mostly filled with ice. My endive salad was tasty; wife's duck confit was excellent. Now the eight-toppers came. One fellow was already into his drinks and had no consideration for his present surroundings. Seated behind me, he was BOISTEROUS—I couldn't hear my wife unless I leaned in close. It was too late to change tables, nor did I want to create a fuss. Wife ordered the halibut which, while adequate, wasn't astounding. Waitress suggested a pinot noir to pair with my duck. But that choice had zero going for it (likely too young). Half of the four little duck pieces were inedible fat. Given the per entree price, I felt duped. The accompaniments for both entrees were *skimpy* at best. But we're not accustomed to sending dishes back, nor did we want to make a fuss during what was supposed to be a memorable, rare romantic evening out. After retiring for the evening, I probably lost an hour of sleep while ruminating over that miserable dining experience. We might stay at the inn again, but we'll skip the Oak & Grain.More

Amazing wait staff and management – from wine list recommendations to entre suggestions. Answered our every need and request. Beautiful location overlooking the lake. Quiet. Sophisticated. Extensive wine list. Delectable dessert – the Lemon Curd Profiterole was the perfect final note with just enough honeycomb...to add a bit of whimsy to the intensity of the lemon and blueberry compote. For entres: Husband tried the duck – which was delicious and not gamey the way its often prepared. I indulged in the scallops – as a Jersey Shore girl I hesitate to order anywhere but home. Perfectly seared with what I think was a paprika-spiced glaze. I strongly suggest the braised octopus if you are feeling daring – but the gnocchi with wild mushrooms and truffle butter was heavenly. Perfect evening.More

My wife and went there for my 75th birthday. Even though I had made the reservation a couple of weeks ago, we were given a table set back from the view of Pleasant Lake. There was an empty table available. First we ordered some wine....Their wine list for an expensive restaurant is a joke. They give one choice per category of wine: one Sauvignon Blanc, one Chardonnay, etc. We chose Sauvignon which tasted like grapefruit. I ordered a non- alcohol beer (driving). It came, after we reminded the waitress, room temperature and stale. You had to ask for bread! Two slices arrived after 20 minutes. For starters my wife ordered duck confit and I had pork belly with a sesame noodle salad. Both sounded splendid bu in reality arrived lukewarm and greasy. Our entrees were salmon and duck breast. Both arrived lukewarm and for some odd reason, you were asked to pair it with a sauce! My wife had a paprika sauce and I had a peppercorn sauce with duck. The salmon was not fresh (it looked reheated) and my duck was chewy and greasy. They didn’t supply a steak knife, so it was fun trying to cut it with a table knife. Throughout our meal, which took an hour and a half, the table by the window was left with dirty glasses and napkins. We left without ordering a dessert. We will not be back. Service was slow, the food was mediocre, and the price was high.More

We visited the Oak & Grain for the first time on our 26th anniversary for dinner. From start to finish, it was as if the cook had biopsied our taste buds and created textures and tastes to optimally excite them. Both my wife and I...are hesitant to have bread these days (carbs and gluten) but sensed that we’d get something special here. The crust…the freshness…the rosemary infused olive oil…an epicurean delight! My wife had the cauliflower soup. I had the salad. We were so pleased with our choices that we ordered them again swapping our selections. Her tuna and my Arctic char were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Just the right amount of food to leave you sated but not stuffed. Our server Claudia was delightful. I would categorically recommend this to anyone who has a decided quality vs quantity inclination in making dining choices. We eagerly anticipate our next visit.More

This is a beautiful restaurant and setting. Dinner was simply overpriced, not enough creativity in the dishes but described with overblown descriptors on the menu. I don’t mind paying for exceptional meals but this was not one of them. Our table of four felt the...same way. And you don’t even get a piece of bread without it costing!! Dinner was great. Had a wonderful evening. Since we were there celebrating both our birthdays, had requested candles on the dessert, which they said they’d do but did not. It was just a small disappointment but a disappointment none the less. Had hoped for a...visit from Chef Leary but completely understood his inability to that, as the evening was very busy. The excerpt food proved how busy he was. Overall a lovely visit, would have just really appreciated the candles on dessert for a perfect finishing touch.More
