Don’t ever come here. We were seated for 20 minutes… 4 servers passed us 3 times each… No one said hello or offered to take our order. Needless to say we left. Very disappointed.

My husband and I stopped in for dinner. The pretzel appetizer and beer cheese was amazing. I was thrilled because of the large selection of ales on tap. My salad and beef stew were terrific and my husband loved his fish and chips.
We were staying at the Fireside inn and this place came highly recommended in reviews. We walked in the atmosphere was pleasant. There was musical entertainment and her voice was amazing. This is where the good review ends. We waited at the hostess station for...a bit and no one returned to it to seat us. We decided to seat ourselves because there was no sign stating otherwise. 3 waitstaff and what appeared to be a house manager passed us numerous times made eye contact and never once spoke to us. We even asked at one point if we could get some service and were ignored. After 20 minutes of this we left and will never return even though we frequent the area quite often. Horrible customer service !More
This was a good restaurant/Pub. Food was good but seemed a little high on the price side. Not sure if this is just a trend with the price of everything going up or their normal pricing as I am from out of town. I got...the fish and chips which was a good portion of fish but was I worried about if it was cooked enough. Tasted good and I did not get sick so I guess it was ( if I’m honest I probably overcook my fish anyways so they may been spot on) Pub fries were good as well. In short , food was decent and service was friendly.More
We've been avoiding this place recently, mainly because of the bar. We did go back for dinner last week and as usual the food was really really good, the service (new waitress, commuting from way out in VT) fun and prompt, and the bar even...worse than usual...won't be going back, too many other good choices around. My scotch was TINY, small glass filled with ice, and I doubt even one jigger, and expensive. My wife's margarita had zero perceptible tequila, and she doesn't drink very much so really notices a good pour.More
Went for lunch on the weekend. Staff was nice. Service was fine - they seemed like maybe they were short staffed. My lunch was ok. Bloody Mary was ok - no celery :( Brussel sprouts were EXCELLENT!!! I'd go back just for those.
We sat at the bar for lunch. Location was good, not far off highway. We ordered Philly steak sandwich andFalafel Wrap, 2 cocktails and a glass of wine. Bill was $57. Sandwiches were good. Service a little slow.
Had the pleasure of dining here not once but twice during a cold January weekend. Had the pleasure of meeting and talking with owner Josh both times. the Irish stew, steak sandwich and of course the Reuben's were all great and at a great price!...Plenty of drafts to choose from and TVs to watch the games. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We have great pubs here in Newport RI and I would rank Salt Hill up there with the best of them. Josh - you've got a winner that certainly reflects your dedication and passion - well done!More
After going off the road in a terrible storm a kind woman rescued us and brought us to salt hill. All the staff were helpful, and accommodating . Food was reasonable and comforting. Spent over 3 hrs waiting for a tow that never came and...we will definitely be backMore
I loved the atmosphere and it was very clean. Drink list was mostly local beers so I tried a mixed drink. Waiter was very nice and helped us make a selection. We settled on the wings and the pretzel. Both came out hot and tasty....I would have like more sauce on the wings, they were kinda dry. Would definitely come back again.More
Dined here several times over the years and recently returned to see if anything changed. It did, in a big way. We arrived at 5:00pm on a Sunday. Nice weather and the street was taken over by numerous tables. There were only a few people...dining there and several servers standing around both inside and outside. We were directed inside to be seated, where we requested an outside table near the fencing. We spoke with two young girls who decided we couldn’t sit there because it wasn’t assigned to the next waiter up. They directed us to a table about 10 feet away near the building and adjacent to the entrance. We were not comfortable with that and asked if we could sit at the table we requested. When the girls declined we pointed out the table was only a few feet from the one they selected and could easily be covered by the same waiter, but they refused to honor our preference. Only two tables were occupied inside so we asked to be seated inside and was escorted to the table next to the hostess at the door. When we discovered the table legs were uneven and complained about it the hostess shrugged her shoulders. We asked if they wanted us to eat there and they both smiled and shrugged their shoulders. We left and walked across the walkway to Three Tomatoes where we were treated with respect and received an excellent meal. During the hour we dined there we noticed that no one entered the dining area and a male waiter stood outside the door smoking on and off. At 6:00pm as we were leaving the area I requested to speak with the manager to provide feedback face to face and was told she was on a break. I voiced my disbelief that a restaurant manager would take a break during a weekend dinner hour and left. Just in case there is a response using the pandemic as an excuse for what we experienced, allow me to dismiss that right now. The events witnessed was poor customer service, plain and simple. I believe there were more employees there during the time we were than there were customers. The only staff shortage was related to customer service. I hope the owners take action before this once good restaurant goes belly up. If they don’t, I hope tax dollars don’t bail them out for ignoring it.More
Hi Marty -- thank you for sharing this with me. My name is Josh, my brother and I own and operate Salt hill Pub. We have already begun going over the events of two days ago, to ensure it does not happen again. If you'd...More
We enjoyed eating outside at a table under a tent with lovely flowers surrounding it. We had the fish & chips and chose from a good selection of microbrews. The fish portion was large, the coleslaw was tasty, and the fries appeared to be homemade....The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive.More
Stopped in for a quick bite on our way to Vermont. I honestly found the pricing on the menu to be a bit steep, but the menu offered enough of interest that I was willing to overlook the overpricing. My wife had the Philly Steak...sandwich, which was tasty but really should have had more cheese, onions and green peppers. My Brigid McCarthy salad was likewise tasty. I especially enjoyed the warm pear. For $18 I would expect to get more than the paltry amount of chicken that came with the salad. On top of it, the $18 price tag apparently wasn't enough, as they charged me an additional 69-cents for my salad dressing! REALLY? Eighteen dollars was not sufficient to cover the cost of the dressing?? The waitress lacked any semblance of personality. She performed the basic functions of the job, but was pretty dour. She should find a new profession. So the taste of the food was ok. Prices were high, and for the price the servings left something to be desired. Service was sub-standard. Sad to say, it's not a place I'd return to...More
We heard so much about this place so we went there last week for dinner. I had the brussels sprouts with bacon and the fish and chips. My husband had the vegt. chili soup, which he loved. He also had the fish and chips. Okay but not...great..very large portions though of the fish.French fries were soggy. It was okay, not great. The service was poor.Slow and just like our waitperson didn't care if we ate or not.didn't seem that busy..it was a Monday night..around 5pm.More
Understanding the challenges that Covid has created for the hospitality industry, it pains me to write this review, but I don't want other people to be surprised like we were. Let's start with the good: it has a very homey and embracing environment - just...like a pub should. Another bonus is the t-shirt they sell, which says "I like beer and maybe 3 people." Again, I realize most restaurants are struggling. But they were understaffed and inattentive. Our waitperson was in the middle of the learning curve about proper etiquette when engaging clientele - for example, when we are both chewing a big bite of Brussel sprouts it's not the right time to ask for our order. The famous Brussels sprouts were tasty, but would have been a lot more pleasant to eat if the hard stems had been cut off first. The menu specifically stated that "We whack a thousand pounds of potatoes a week" for their hand-cut fries. Rather than ordering them as a $7 side, we got them with our burgers and were really looking forward to them. But they were just FROZEN FRIES - and when we asked our server about this, he admitted they had been having trouble getting the "right potatoes for a while." The menu also stated "Like, literally, no one around here cooks more burgers than we do." We find this hard to believe, if you serve everyone the dried-out hockey pucks that we got. No amount of condiments could have made that frozen, pre-shaped burger juicy. One highlight (there has to be at least one, right?) was that the BBC IPA was tasty and refreshing, but at $11 for 16 oz, we stopped after 2. We would not recommend this place until they are fully staffed and have recuperated from all the Covid setbacks. It will take a long time before we try again.More
