This gem of a restaurant on Water Street in Exeter is definitely worth checking out. With only two dozen seats, it can be hard to get into, but it is worth the wait. We sat at the bar where we were hosted by the owner,...Tony, Casey, and the rest of the team. The wine list is amazing and the menu of mostly small plates is super creative and fun to explore and eat. We loved the charcuterie board (all house-made), an octopus dish, a wonderful beet salad, and some balsamic braised shallots. We learned that their chef’s table is the best seat in the house and a very hard reservation to get. We’ll keep trying!More

My husband and I had an absolutely amazing experience at the chef's table last night. It was an experience that we had booked 8 months in advance! Each course and wine pairing was absolutely delicious. From the detailed descriptions of each course by James Beard...award semi-finalist Chef Paul, and the detailed stories of the wines from Casey, it was quite possibly the best dining experience I have ever had. We enjoyed watching all the action in the kitchen and the engaging conversations with Chef Paul and his his sous chef Jon. Tony, the owner, was welcoming and engaging, always checking in on us to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. I kept telling my husband how amazing each course was and that I didn't want it to end! We enjoyed it so much that we made another reservation for the chef's table. They're booking into August, and I can see why! So in summary, run, don't walk to Vino e Vivo.More

My husband and I were here for dinner tonight. We had the Octopus for an appetizer. It was very good but there wasn’t a lot to it for $19. My husband had the steak and I had the scallops. Both were very good. I found...that the scallops were a bit salty for my taste but still very good. My husband thought the steak was great but there could have been more to it as 2 hrs. Later at home, he was ready for a snack. We sat directly in front of the door so every time it opened, it was cold. For a $200 meal I would like to try some of the offerings in Exeter.More

The room is small, the menu is small the servings are somewhat small but the taste is large! Make sure and check the menu to make sure there is something for your palate. If so, book it. Not a place to go every week (unless...you are a lot richer than I am!) but a special place for a special night. I almost wish I drank wine because that seemed like it would take the experience up a notch from an already very high level. The flavors and creative dishes were unique and memorable.More

We've been meaning to try this place since we moved to Exeter and always waited to long to make a reservation. This past weekend, though, we got lucky! We waited a little while because of some stragglers at our reserved bar seats, but we were...able to have a glass of wine while we waited and when we did sit, they sent us some complimentary charcuterie as an apology - classy move! Everything we ate was spectacular. We ordered three small plates and an entree. The crab potage was probably the bowl of "soup" I've ever had. We chatted with Tony, the owner almost the entire time and he had great stories about wine and his travels to get it! He gave us great pairing recommendations with each dish. Overall, a phenomenal experience. The staff was friendly and took great care of us. We can't wait to go back when the river side patio is open. Chef Paul Callahan's James Beard nomination is well deserved.More

The appetizers were filled with surprises--spiked grapes in the spears of endive, a beignet cooked in duck fat, with one sliver of duck to provide protein. The demi-glace on the steak is cooked for 48 hours and transforms the hangar steak into a dish for...a king. Best of all were the wines. The house is determined to provide the wine that you find to your liking and is generous with tastes. I thanked the dishwasher who polished all those generously proffered glasses.More

What a great experience, exceeded our expectations all around. This small restaurant has seating indoors, and in warmer weather on a patio adjacent to the water. We chose a third option, a 2 person 5 course chefs whim menu at a private chefs table, and...what a treat! The dining room is very attractive and the restaurant prides themselves on a curated wine selection. They do offer spirits, but not mixed cocktails. The owner greeted and welcomed us, as did the chefs. The chefs warned us that although the menu said 5 courses, they get carried away and likely it would be more like 7. As it turns out, we had 9 courses and spent more than 3 hours. Chef's Paul and Jon were thoroughly engaging and it was fun to see their talent create beautiful plates. Time flies by when you are eating great food in the hands of talented chefs. Service was excellent. I won't go into every course here, and I certainly don't want to ruin any surprises, but they do ask about any allergies, preferences, etc... They then customize a menu for you using some of the ingredients on the standard menu for the evening, but switched up and unique for us. Portions were properly sized so we did not leave over filled, but you will be very satisfied. Dishes were expertly prepared and truly eclectic. We started with a green garlic soup, and moved on to a sea trout crudo. The next dish was crispy octopus which was outstanding. While you do need a bit of an adventurous spirit for this, I have every confidence that they would work with even the pickiest of eaters to ensure a wonderful dinner. Of course, the regular menu is also available if not at the chefs table. Make a reservation and try this out, you won't be let down.More

Amazing, creative, delicious food! We all got different dishes and everything was incredible. The duck and the agnolotti were SO good but, honestly, everything was fantastic. And the staff was so friendly and helpful. It’s a must-do in Exeter.

We love this place and visit often. The chef is very talented and obviously take a lot of pride in his food. The staff is great at helping you choose the perfect wine for your meal. Very friendly and attentive staff, with great food and...wine - what more can you ask for? How about special events ("Flights and Bites") where a winery representative comes in to share their wines and tell you more about them, while the chef pairs a small plate with each wine? We love this place!More

We visited this delightful find for the first time Saturday night. It is small and intimate, warmly decorated and cozy. The wine selection was varied and interesting. The locally sourced food offerings were intriguing. We had Charcuterie and cheese, a middle eastern beet and carrot...salad, roasted Brussels, scallops with cabbage and sun choke, and homemade pasta with fennel. Everything was prepared perfectly and the variety of flavor was amazing! The capper was the chocolate custard with homemade smoked vanilla ice cream. Our server was attentive and helpful. Can’t wait to go back!!!More
