Been looking for a good NY Style pizza, I’ve found it!! Two slices and a soda under $6. This is the real deal, made with top quality ingredients. The sign outside says “ New York Italian food made by New York Italians”.
This place is...located more or less in a gas station/convenience store, but don’t let that deter you. Seven tables, no atmosphere, but honest NY thin crust pizza. They do a large takeout business.More
Heard this was fantastic pizza, so I had to experience myself. Was very surprised that it was in the park in parking lot of a gas station.
When is, staff super friendly, ordered and waited. Surprised, that they actually had a dining room area, however,...not meaning to be snooty, it was still in the gas station mini mart, really not appealing for dinner.
Got pizza, decent price, when home to eat.
Also thrilled they had rootbeer, for some reason, always live that with pizza.
Pizza was average, not as good as I was told. It would so in a pinch.More
My first impression after parking and walking toward the entrance to Sal's was a thin, older man leaning against the wall smoking a cigarette. He was detached and emotionless. This turned out to be Sal himself.
I went inside and was greeted by two young...ladies who were both pleasant and helpful. They took my order, I ordered a large cheese pizza. The girls looked at each other and said...."oh, Sal's outside. i immediately thought of the grumpy guy out front smoking out front and decided not to have him make my food.
i asked if there was a couple of extra slices and there was. I got a couple of slices of cheese and a coke for $5.41, and sat down. The pizza was ok. A man came out of the back and he was also nice, big smile on his face when he said hi.
A few minutes later, Sal came in and sat near me, still sullen and without speaking to me.
He could have a successful little restaurant if he actually demonstrated some customer service skills. I am sure his staff would appreciate it!More
While this is one of the best NY style pies you can get in Henderson (originally Villa Pizza) at a AM-PM gas station no less, I can count on my hands since the early 90's how many times I've been acknowledged/thanked for my business. I...know Sal's knows their price points are much higher than their franchised competitors but they have their clientele. I/we just don't get why the owners aren't more engaging/grateful for our business since the mid 90's so we've decided if our business isn't appreciated, we'll give it to those who are eagerly thankful for our recurring business. Thank Goodness they've got a few younger staff who know how to smile, recognize repeat customers and express sincere thanks. I'm reminded of a movie with Walter Mathau - "Grumpy Old Men" - as we say in Hawaii, "smile, brah, not going broke your face!"More
Just moved into town yesterday all the way from New Jersey. Tired and hungry, we ordered a pie for delivery. Delivery was prompt, professional, and friendly. Pizza is excellent. I'm a broad from north jersey, I got pizza standards. Sal's is our new home pizza!
Finding true New York style pizza in Las Vegas is not easy. In NY the pizza is served in slices with your toppings added then put back in the oven for a minute or so. At Sal's, you can order pizza slices and have the...toppings added. Of course, you can also order whole pizzas, in two sizes.
The best part of the pizza at Sal's is the crispy, chewy crust. This is what I have been looking for! The sauce needs a bit of oregano and some salt for my taste - but it is a good pizza sauce. The cheese is a good quality mozzarella - none of that off-putting grease on top. In fact, there is nothing greasy about the pizza except the pepperoni, which should be a bit greasy.
Sal's also serves a number of Italian pasta dishes along with sandwiches and salads. They do have a dining room. Drinks are available from a cooler - there is no alcohol. Prices are ridiculously reasonable. A large cheese pizza is $12.95.
Sal's is in an odd location. They are in the same building as the AM/PM gas station but they have their own entrance.
If you are looking for really good local pizza place with reasonable prices, go to Sal's. They also deliver to a limited area around Pecos/Windmill.More
