I didn’t actually visit the restaurant in person but my family and I ordered from DoorDash, so I will be reviewing strictly the food and menu. Menu was basic, but there are a lot of options and it was clear to read. If you want extras on your sushi you will need to tell them, like I asked them to put spicy Mayo on all of my rolls and they did. The prices are all very reasonable! We got 3 rolls and 2 sides for $21 and a bottled tea that is written in Japanese for $2.50. The rolls were very good, we got the Carson city roll, crystal shrimp roll and the jackpot roll. For sides just got edamame and rice, they gave us a good portion of everything and for the price it was amazing! We just ate in the motel as we were super tired from the day’s festivities. Everything was packed neatly and nothing spilled.

We have visited Oishi twice in the space of a week. The sushi is good, large number of choices and the staff was very helpful. We will be traveling to Japan in 2024, so it’s fun to hear Japanese spoken there, too.

Awesome Sushi!! Amazing prices! I have ordered take out several times and am never disappointed! The restaurant is pretty small and strictly business—not a lot of ambience going on. Nonetheless—love their food!

This place just recently opened, taking the place of a small tea and sandwich shop that was run by the landlord's daughter. Before that it was long ago a solo owner sushi shop that never seemed to have any customers. Now, this new operator is doing sushi again. He had just learned to make sushi and decided to give this location a go. Don't expect a master sushi chef from Japan with 50 + years of experience toiling away at his craft here. No, this is just regular all you can eat sushi with all the usual suspects of fish made into mostly rolls. No exotic fish species from Japan here. For nigiri style sushi, you have your red tuna, albacore, hamachi and all the other normal for this area fish. The strange thing about this place is the connected Chinese restaurant. These are two SEPARATE businesses. The only connection they have is their arranged use of the Chinese restaurant 's kitchen. All the deep frying and baking for the sushi restaurant is done in the shared kitchen. I suppose the Chinese restaurant is getting a break on their rent for letting the Sushi place use the kitchen. Otherwise there would be no sushi bar ... or any other restaurant as there are no kitchen facilities on the Sushi bar side. They even share the same restrooms located on the sushi side. If this arrangement works, more power to them! Some of the practices that I didn't like to see, were the cutting of the fish all ahead of time into nigiri sized pieces and the premaking of the toppings and fish for the rolls. This is not made fresh and you might as well be going to a sushi buffet with all the fish splayed out on a tray ahead of time. Real sushi is cut and made to order. The cut of fish were a little off on evenness and size showing the chefs inexperience. The rice could have used a little more vinegar and a little more water as it came out too grainy. The fish served itself was fine, about on par with most places in the area. Most of the offerings were just the standard things you'll see at most sushi bars. There were no imaginative chef creations, like I've had with other more experienced chefs. The place is OK, for a standard all you can eat experience as most people just order rolls mostly and you can get away with poor fish cuts when you roll 'em up and cover it with some sauce sprayed over it. Do sit at the bar for better service and you'll order directly from the chef, instead of at a table going through a server intermediary. Most likely, if I'm here in this area, I'll choose the Chinese restaurant next door (Yang's Kitchen) over spending almost $25 for lunch for sushi when I can get a ton of great food next door for $8.00 bucks. I get to take Chinese leftovers home too, where with all you can eat, there's not take home of leftovers. $25 vs $8 is just too much of a price difference.

Sushi literally means rice. Then with the rice you can make rolls and nigeri. Most sushi restaurants do not know how to make rice. The rice should be individual grains that are seasoned with just enough sweetened vinegar so they hold together and not fall apart if dipped in soy sauce. The rice must not be starchy or doughy. It remains a firm shape until chewed. This place does it right. Their fish are nice cuts of a size that is appropriate for the rice ball so it fits nicely in the mouth without over stuffing and making it difficult to chew. The fish has delicate nice flavors and has a fresh texture. I mention this because as a chef, I know that for any sushi restaurant to say their fish is fresher than anyone else's is not telling you the truth. By law, any food that is to consumed raw MUST be FROZEN to kill any parasites. Therefore all sushi grade fish is flash frozen when caught. The key is how well it is thawed and how long ago it was thawed. Oishi Sushi does a very unique preperation of their mussels. They offer them as cooked and baked. Try both ways. Delicious. The Saba is also nicely marinated. The tempura is nice and light, not greasy. Best salmon skin hand roll I have eaten anywhere. My biggest complaint and why not a 5 rating is they were awfully ssssloooooowwwwww at taking your orders and slow in preparing. 2 cutters, one doing long rolls and another doing the nigeri and hand rolls. A lot of tables giving their lists and people at the bar giving their orders yet each was done in turn such as take a number. If for instance you were the 30th person, you had to wait from getting your first order in until they had worked through the entire restaurant of the other 29 people until you were asked for your next order. What might take 40 minutes anywhere else took over 2 hours. Make sure you enjoy the persons company you are with or make friends with your neighbors. It will help the time pass
