About
Prohibition ended in Nebraska on August 9th, 1933, and Ole's opened at 12:01 the next day. Since then, we’ve been known as the bar in Paxton with great food and unusual decor. Over the years, our founder, the great outdoorsman Ole Herstedt, embarked on adventures in big game hunting that took him to every continent. For 35 years, he brought his trophy mounts home and hung them above the bar tables and booths: a moose from Canada, a python from Honduras, and even an iconic polar bear! Along with our hearty steaks and burgers made with local Nebraska beef, these trophies are why we’re known as Nebraska’s most famous roadside pit stop. Hop in the car, hit the road, and experience true Americana

What an interesting place, so much history and info to see. Food was good, friendly service. It really shows the love Ole had for the sport of hunting.

Ole's Big Game Steakhouse and Lounge was on the itinerary for a lunch stop for our bus tour. As others have mentioned, it is a small restaurant in a very tiny town and has developed a considerable reputation as has many big game animal heads...and bodies as part of the experience. We were given a history of the restaurant by the owner and over all the service was very good. The salad was good. My hamburger was over done and my husband's under done. Later that afternoon, he got sick with abdominal pain, headache and nausea, causing us to have to decline the evening meal with the tour group. Was his illness caused by the underdone burger? Possibly.More

It was dark but this seemed to be in a little tiny town of pretty much nothing. It was unique having animal mounts of anything and everything from deer to giraffe. Not sure if it was all real and didn't want to ask. Anyway service...was good and the Rocky Mountain Oysters were amazing!!!!!!More

Best steaks my family and I have ever had. This is not hyperbole. Lots of great animal heads from years past, great cocktails and friendly service. I also liked the decor. Nice assortment of tee shirts, too. You will not be disappointed.

Stopped here for lunch on our way to Denver. Interesting place and decor. Service was friendly, food was good but not very hot. Prices were a little high but otherwise acceptable.

We stumbled on to this amazing place when we stopped in the pretty farming town of Paxton. The restaurant itself is an astonishing collection of big game taxidermy. The lady who served us was so friendly and welcoming and took time to tell us about...the history of the owner and the restaurant. My husband said his steak sandwich was the best he had ever had. They really know how to cook meat! And there are vegetarian options also. If you are passing by you must stop in and see this place!More

We saw the billboards along I-80 and thought, “what the heck?” So we tried it and this place didn’t disappoint one bit! Located in the small town of Paxton, off the highway, it was truly a hidden gem. It decor is absolutely stunning with the...huge white polar bear greeting you as you walk in. But not to worry, they don’t serve polar bear. I would have to say the steaks are the best in all of Nebraska, and that’s taking on a lot of beef in the part of the Country. My son had the Rueben (who knew that the Rueben was invented in Nebraska?) and it was delicious. The service is homey and very accommodating. I saw a lot of families there as well as older folks. So this place rates 5 stars and should by on the Food Channel!More

Stopped at Ole's on 7/25. Had wait 25 minutes for a table. Then had to wait for our order for 1 hr. Would have been nice if they would have said up front, we are short staffed or that there is a long wait time...for food. We would have moved on down the interstate.More

Ole's is a visual experience with all the big-game critters on display. The Polar bear is amazing. It's like going back in time to when big-game hunting was a real "sport." As long-time Nebraskans, we have dined here many times. This time was a lunch...stop, and it continues to have good food and great service. The menu is large. It's well worth a visit on a drive across Nebraska. You might think it's touristy--but it's not. It's really a world-renown restaurant where everyone is treated as a local friend.More

We always enjoy stopping at Ole's when we are traveling across Nebraska. The food is homemade and very reasonably priced. The atmosphere is unique with many game trophies. If this is offensive to you, I recommend you pass on this stop.

Good comfort food just 2 minutes off I-80. Tons of stuffed game animals. A classic diner and longtime western Nebraska food landmark. If you are traveling and don't want to wait long for your food, consider placing your order before your arrival.
