Come here as a group for a birthday with a reservation for 12. When we arrived they didn't have the reservation. At first their demeanor was that they didn't believe us and couldn't accommodate us, but they did get a table together for us rather...quickly. Our two servers were very friendly and their service was great, so all was good. I got the wellington special, and the filet was kind of tough despite being perfectly cooked to mid-rare. I look forward to coming here again.More

We travel to Lincoln on business every summer. We came across this place several years ago by accident and what a delightful find! The food is exquisite and the service is second to none. They are pet friendly with a small outdoor patio. There are...only two down sides. The sun in late afternoon/early evening is relentless and more shades would work wonders. The second is they do not serve frozen drinks. Adding a blender to the bar staff would be great especially on hot August days!More

I have loved this restaurant and have visited each year we have our championships. This year the experience was not as great mostly due to feeling rushed. Had they told us when we went that they were closing in about a half hour we would...have saved it for another night. Instead it was after we ordered that we found out because the salad came out so fast and then dinner right behind. Our waitress said the kitchen was trying to close so things were pushed out. My dinner was not up to par but it could have been because it was cold by the time I rushed through my salad. My husband ordered a lobster dish - alfredo type - and there was no lobster .. only shrimp and maybe a couple of clams? I can't remember. But we did ask about the lobster and waitress checked and came out and said it was a lobster FLAVORED sauce - which we said should be noted on the menu! (Especially at that price!). We will be returning to Lincoln maybe next summer for championships again but I don't think I will be returning to Gateau. (I would have given it only an average rating but am going on past experience - in all fairness to restaurant)More

I met a friend for lunch today at the Green Gateau as neither of us have been there in a couple of years. When my burger arrived, it was a small patty and not cooked to medium but more rare to medium rare. The waitress...offered to have it re-cooked. I almost said no, but when dealing with ground beef, it needs to be cooked through. She brought a plate over to put just the burger patty on it that I had cut. Rather than cooking a fresh patty, the kitchen staff just put the patty on the grill or most likely microwave, as it was in the same cuts that I provided on the plate and still a bit pink. The manager later awkwardly came to the table to apologize, nothing more. It was a disappointing meal and experience. It will be another few years before I go back.More

We were able to get a table for two without a reservation a cold Friday night. I started with a cup of French onion soup -- just the right combo of cheese, onion, toast points, and broth. Yum! The pot roast dinner was packed with...flavor and an outstanding bargain at $17. My companion had the bacon butter filet and raved about it. I wish we would have had room for dessert - the samples on the dessert tray looked tempting. Our server was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I would definitely eat here again when in Lincoln! One thing though -- what's up with $2.13 minimum wage for tipped employees? I made $2.10 an hour when I started working my first restaurant job in 1978. C'mon Nebraska, do better!More

We went for lunch when in Lincoln. We use TripAdvisor a lot during travel and I've done quite a few reviews-all positive. Our lunch here was very mediocre. Grilled chicken breast with boring sauce and my husband had salmon that was an inch by inch...and a half. While the staff was nice and building beautiful, the food was just not good. Perhaps people that frequent fast food or can't cook themselves would enjoy it. Very pricey for what you get. Sorry to be negative, but the high reviews misled us which has never happened on TripAdvisor to us.More

You go to New Orleans to eat Beignets at Cafe du Monte and you are wowed. But Lincoln Nebraska kicks it up many notches. Beignets at The Green Gateau Are almost indescribable with perfect blend of flakiness and doughy texture with just the correct amount...of cinnamon. Covered in Powdered sugar accompanied by a ridiculous strawberry jam. Sinful!More

There are some vegan options marked on the menu, but they can make almost any menu item vegan upon request, and very open to doing that. You can look up the menu online, attaching the link here is restricted.
