I ordered scallion pancakes. Whatever they were, they were not scallion pancakes. None of the classic elements were there, no coiled dough, no scallions, nothing remotely flakey about them. So I turned to the tofu special I ordered. After one bite I had to throw...it out. Pure salt and absolutely no flavor. So I tried the sweet and sour soup. I ate one bite and had to throw it out. No flavor, just salt. I do not what happened to the chef today. I love scallion pancakes and am very disappointed with my order today.More

We arrived at Lan Noodle House at 11:30am on a Saturday morning. Sadly, the first thing we discovered when trying to order: no pot stickers available! A Saturday morning, just before noon, and no pot stickers? That was a big disappointment. We ordered the scallion...pancake and it was extremely disappointing. Thin and damp napkin greasy, it was very unappetizing and left me with indigestion. My father-in-law, bless his heart, made a wonderful version, with scallion pieces thoughtfully rolled into a multilayered cake that was gently pan-fried in a little oil. Perhaps I’m jaded because I have such an outstanding version as a standard, but I swear, these were so greasy, I could not in good faith recommend ordering them here. My wife ordered the Lanzhou beef noodle, and again, disappointing. For $10.95, she got three little strips of beef, meager noodles and some vegetables in a large bowl of broth. The Lanzhou Stewed Beef Noodle was nicely flavored and a bit more substantial, but still should have been a bit larger for the price. Maybe I had too high expectations going in, but this place wouldn't cut it if there were other noodle houses around.More

Excellent Chinese menu items at reasonable prices. We were especially pleased with the crab Rangoon, and sesame chicken which were excellent.

You would need to travel to China to find hand-pulled noodles as good as those served in this restaurant. We found the Lan House completely by accident as we wandered around downtown Lincoln during our one-night stay. Choose this restaurant if you want to enjoy...Chinese hand-pulled noodles at their best.More

Ordered online and picked up the Orange Chicken lunch special with hot and sour soup and Crab Rangoon. Hot and Sour soup had more cayenne spice than I care for but it was good. Appears vegetarian - a few veg and tofu. The Crab Rangoon...is very sweet, but also good. The Orange Chicken was also good. It was served with broccoli which was apparently steamed and not tossed in wok with chicken - only sauce was what it was sitting in. Overall, a nice change of pace for lunch and no big complaints. Quite a few lunch special options to pick from. This was only my 2nd visit. My first was back when they first opened and not sure if it was menu selection or still working things out, but wasn't a great experience. Better this time!More

I was in Lincoln for a conference, I stopped here for lunch 2 times. The hot and sour soup was super tasty, decently hot and actually sour at the same time, I had egg rolls which tasted different from the basic frozen fried you get...at other places, and the General Tso Chicken, it was nice that it wasn't too sweet. I will go back next time in Lincoln.More

vast menu of authentic Chinese dishes - had to start with the black mushroom salad - over the top great taste - Lan house has dishes specializing in the fresh noodles - really did taste better, classic 'al dente" texture - wide noodles are fun...for a change from the conventional spaghetti size - enjoyed the Westland (wide noodle) lamb stew in rich gravy/sauce - other bowls had house garlicy chili oil based broth - real good - lots of veggies & meat of choice - even baby boy choy leaves - after getting the noodles & tender morsels of meat out with your chop sticks, ditch the spoon & slurp from the bowl - mmm, broth is twice as good when slurped!...fair prices for downtown with meaty, large bowls -also lots of classic & exotic (tripe) Chinese dishes on menu - enjoy! *SPOILER ALERT - check out the mystery cargo crate in the ladies room - imports from the homeland!More

Thought you couldn't find authentic Asian food in a random state like Nebraska? You thought wrong. There are so many options to choose from, and I can almost guarantee that your entree of choice will fill you up. The appetizers are pretty filling too according...to my friends. I missed that bullet by just getting a spring roll. I also got kung pao tofu which was delicious. The vegetables. sauce, and peanuts added a nice touch. The staff are all very nice and the prices aren't too bad. Walking distance from the Graduate hotel. Fairly limited seating.More

This place is amazing! First time there, but it won’t be the last! We picked this place on a whim after watching a movie. So glad we did! We were greeted right when we walked in and the waiter (Peter I believe) was prompt to...take our order. Food came out cooked perfectly and in a decent time, not too quick as of pre-made and microwaved and didn’t take forever. I must mention that the food was delicious! We shared a lamb bowl and pork potstickers and we still took some home. Overall a great place and we will return.More

OH boy. I'm a sucker for hand-pulled noodles, and I was NOT disappointed- absolutely delicious!! Took me right back to China with each bite. Be patient if the place is crowded. You'll be glad you waited, especially if you love hand-pulled noodles. 💗 Cost of...bowl of noodles (non-spicy beef) was around $8.50 + tax. Well worth it. Beware of parking - there is a garage across the street but not sure if accessible to public. We were parked closer to the Children's Museum, so we just walked it.More

I met a friend at Lan House for lunch today. It is a newer restaurant in downtown Lincoln, fairly close to campus. The owner did a very nice job on the renovation, and the atmosphere was appealing and for lunch it was fairly busy. We...asked the waitress for a recommendation and were told to get a noodle dish. There were several lunch specials, but we each got a spring roll and the beef noodle entree. The food was very simple and in a word.....delicious. It was not greasy like a stir fry. It was all just right. After we ate we got a chance to talk with the owner and he told us that he did most of the renovations himself. Also he suggested the next time we eat there we get one of the lamb dishes with the hand pulled noodles. Lamb is the speciality from where he comes from in China. And I was watching one of the cooks making noodles while we ate, so they are fresh! How does one judge authentic Chinese food? We have a number of students from China at UNL and they occupied several tables while we were there. I am guessing they know best what tastes like home. And all the food going by our table looked and smelled great! Why not 5 stars, you ask? Because it is not a fine dining establishment. But for the price of about $10 for an entree, you should be very happy with what you are getting....really delicious food in a nice atmosphere served by friendly and helpful wait staff. Maybe I should give it 5 stars after all.More

Was very pleasantly surprised but the authentic nature of the food, we ordered a lot, we wanted to try everything! Everything we did order was amazing, the waitress was extremely helpful with questions we had about the menu. One downfall would be that it was...really loud in the space from the kitchen.More

My friend and I are musicians, and we were heading out to a gig. We have a favorite sushi spot, but downtown parking was impossible, so we looked for something else that was in the Asian food realm nearby. (Asian food is the best pre-gig...food for us: relatively healthy, good long-term energy, not too filling.) The restaurant was clean and well lit. The menu was a little daunting; it was quite lengthy, and there were a lot of unfamiliar items. Note: this restaurant does not serve alcohol. We ordered the beef potstickers, and were told they were out. So we ordered the pork potstickers, and they were out of those, too. Then we thought we'd try the pork buns - never had them before but they looked interesting. They were out of those, as well. I ordered the Braised Beef with Lan Sauce, and my friend ordered Mushroom Braised Chicken. Both came with hot and sour soup and spring rolls. The soup came almost immediately. My friend really liked it. I thought the flavor was good, but there was a bit too much egg for my taste. After a reasonable wait, my entree arrived. I waited a few minutes for the server to bring my friend's dish, but after about 5 minutes I told him to share mine. It was big chunks of beef with green beans over rice. The green beans were excellent - perfectly crisp-tender. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the meal. The meat was tender, but rather flavorless. It was all smothered in a brown gravy that was supposed to be a little spicy, but was not. With the exception of the beans, the whole thing was just blah. About 10 minutes later my friend's dinner arrived. We were told that the spring rolls would be right out. The chicken was nice and tender, but it, too, was smothered in the same flavorless gravy. When we were just about done eating, the spring rolls finally arrived. They were way too hot to even touch. We asked for hot mustard, but our server did not seem to understand. When they finally cooled off enough to eat, I thought they were just awful - all cabbage, a few rice noodles, and nothing else. Neither my friend nor I could determine the nature of the sauce served with the spring rolls. All in all, a pretty disappointing lunch.More

My friend had the spicy beef noodle bowl and I had the shrimp chow mein. There were red chilis in my friend's soup and he confirmed it was spicy. We both enjoyed our food and service was good. The atmosphere is an open concept. I...could see the chef making noodles. The restaurant was busy, but there was no wait. There were quite a few people who looked of Asian ethnicity dining there. We will be back!More
