Our waitress was delightful and massively overworked. The town was full and people kept coming up to an already full restaurant at 7:30 at night and were asking to seat a party of 8 or more. The clearly tourist type people were astonished to hear...it would be at least an hour wait. The staff were clear about the limitations and how long it would take to get their orders. We quietly sat on the small table on the porch which turned out to be great people watching to see the unreasonable expectations of people who wanted immediate seating, service, and food. It is a tiny place with the staff frantically trying to fill orders for a huge volume of people. The hushpuppies were the best I have had in many years and I love hushpuppies. The stuffed baked potato with pulled pork was enough to feed 2 people. They have a wide selection of beers, pretty amazing for a tiny place as well. My compliments to the massively overworked, valiantly trying to keep up staff in an impossible situation with way too many tourists with unreasonable expectations.More

I never leave bad reviews and am an easy to please, patient customer. I understand that staffing everywhere especially the service industry is an issue but I've never had bad service like this. We were told to sit anywhere so we sat down and waited...at least 25 minutes before our waitress came over and didn't even know we were sitting there, our table still wasn't cleaned from the last customer with a dirty knife and used napkins and they just left it like that. We immediately ordered our drinks, appetizer and food since we were waiting awhile and were hungry. We got our drinks and waited for what felt like forever and our appetizer never came out. Lo and behold they brought out our entrees and no hush puppies. I asked where the hush puppies were and the server said they were going to go check, meanwhile I didn't have any utensils other than a spoon that came in my beans to eat my meal. The server brought out the hush puppies after my husband was already done with his meal. Then I asked for a fork and she brought it and apologized that she never brought any utensils. Then the other server brought another plate of hush puppies out...I asked for a box for my leftovers and she forgot twice. Wish I read the reviews before coming to this place. Would not recommend.More

Let me preface this by saying I am a 58 year WF local......the food has always been great at piggyback.....but, the service sucks. I never write questionable review for WF restaurants......but. I told myself I would not patronize Piggyback 3 different times (always in their..."new" location....I patronized their old location frequently). 6 months ago I said I wouldn't go back because of piss poor service.....but time makes you forget, as well as we want to support local businesses. Today I placed an order for take-out, with the idea I would beat the 4th of July weekend crowd. I called 3 hours early, and gave a pickup time......I got there early, paid my bill immediately.......and then waited, and waited, and waited. The multitude of staff let me stand waiting, why they all took their time to split tips and B.S with each other......20 minutes after my food pick up request time (30 minutes of standing by the bar) I finally got my food. The server just handed me my bag, could even look me in the eye, or say a word except "HERE". I go to other restaurants in WF and do not have the same experience! What's the saying...1st time shame on you, second time, third time, fourth time shame on me.... won't be a 5th time.More

Very good food. Service was near the worst I’ve experienced ever. Service was past poor and into the incompetent range - greatly affected the overall experience. Not sure if it was our tables server or an average experience for this restaurant. Too bad because the...bbq really was good. No water refills, wrong sandwiches, no notepads for order, gave us old menus with discontinued items, didn’t revisit table, watched her sweep and do end of shift work instead of bringing us a check, waited 30 minutes for check, confused the checks and took 15 more minutes to correct… server should not be in the front of the house.More

We had a delicious meal at Piggyback Barbecue last night. The brisket was tender and had a nice smokey flavor. Pulled pork pretty good, too. The fried okra appetizer was really great - I normally hate okra, but ended up eating half of my partners'...(huge) order. I loved my brisket chili. Homemade kettle chips were top-notch, too. But the scene at the entrance was chaotic - it took us a long while (maybe ten minutes) to get seated, get our order in, and get served. We saw another table wait over half an hour to get their order taken. The waitstaff was very pleasant and was doing the best they could, but there were simply not enough of them to get the job done. So, management issue. I imagine it's next to impossible right now to get enough staff - we heard that all over Montana and Wyoming - but still, you gotta do a little better with this.More

We stopped for dinner. Stood for a while before someone acknowledged us. When she did it was to say "There are no tables right now". Not, "hello" or "would you care to wait?" we waited. Eventually they got to us and seated us at a...table that was sticky dirty, and our feet stuck to the floor. No menus. Luckily we grabbed takeout menus as we were waiting. Then we sat. And waited. And waited and waited. People got seated around us and tended to. And their tables were wiped down! Finally we had enough and left. The place was gross, so maybe we dodged a bullet. Cleanliness is obviously NOT a priority, nor is politeness. There are soany other choices IN Whitefish so do yourself a favor and avoid.More

Sunday lunch, we ended up here because it was one of the few places open early for lunch on a Sunday! Great service, and everything was delicious! Brisket, pulled pork, Mac and cheese, all great! Start with the Buffalo Chips!

Local barbecue joint. Great sandwiches, brisket and pulled pork were very good. The potato salad reminded me of down home deep south cooking. Mac and cheese was good as well. Great selection of local beers. As far as service. It was good. Everyone needs to...realize that servers are in high demand and be kind to one another.More

The "service" we received was so bad we thought the guy was stoned, but probably just the only help this place could hire. We waited over 20 minutes for 2 sandwiches and chips to arrive at our table. The chips on the menu were labeled..."kettle chips", so you would assume homemade right? Wrong. What we got were BBQ chips from a bag. During our 20 minutes wait a couple arrived and sat at the table next to us. Their meals arrived within 5 minutes....before ours arrived that we had been waiting for the 20 minutes. We both ordered hot drinks but the waiter never checked if we needed refills and pretty much just ignored us. Beside the incredibly bad serivce the bldg interior was very cold inside. I noticed that one member of the couple I mentioned earlier actually brought in a lap blanket, so this place must have a rep about their lousy heating system. Finally, my sandiwch's meat was tough and quite frankly I don't think anyone in Montana knows how to prepare decent bbq.....pathetic.More

The menu at Piggyback Barbecue is clever. For example, an appetizer that we enjoyed was crinkle-cut French fried sweet potatoes with a sweet and hot sauce. It was made with honey, hot peppers, and cherry flavoring. Their burgers are no less than four inches tall....They look like the meals national chains advertise but never actually serve. The burger we ordered included cream cheese, huckleberries, and peppers. A nearby table was served a helping of nachos that practically spilled off a large dinner plate. Our server was very helpful and enthusiastically explained menu items in great detail. Piggyback Barbecue is one of the most popular restaurants in Whitefish.More

We were staying in Whitefish for a week in Sep. What a beautiful area and nice little town. We had gotten back late from a trip and most of the places in the center of town had a waiting list. We were staying at the...Edelweiss just up the road. We dropped in the Piggyback and had to wait some, but the wait was well worth it. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich and I had a half rack of ribs. I have to say that they were some of the best I've had. A really nice taste. We do highly recommend this place and the service considering, were very nice.More
