Three forks has never been known for their great places to eat, let's be honest here untill recently the best burger you could get in town was at a bar. It took me quite awhile to give the iron horse another try, considering all the ownership changes that has taken place over the years. I'm very happy I did, I hadn't realized that the addition of "and pie shop" to the name was a mark that the new owners were letting us know there was something new taking place in the building. I was craving some meat that day, so I ordered the cheese burger. I was given several options for cheese choices along with several side options to choose from. This definitely wasn't a standard meal thrown out to feed the masses. And the time it took for my food to come out was rather impressive. When looking at my burger you could tell these weren't your normal thin pattied burger and the flavor was amazing. I happened to be in at a slow time, so while I was finishing up I was able to chat with the cook and complement her on the great burger. She smiled and thanked me kindly, but said she couldn't take all the credit for it as their meat is freshly pattied in house and not frozen and working for such great owners that take pride in bringing the best ingredients they can makes her job very easy when serving meals made from scratch. She also mentioned the menu had been completely redone when the new owners took over so there were many options available to meet any craving. This was one of the nicest meals I have had in a long time and of course it was followed by an amazing slice of also made from scratch pie. I had several options to choose from, however I went for the lime cream pie... It was melt in mouth amazing! I didn't realize pie could taste so good!!!! I am so happy that as a long term three forks resident we finally have a restaurant that we can smile as suggest in town. If your looking for a great meal and experience, definitely stop by the iron horse you won't be disappointed!

What a great find!! Definitely worth the extra few miles off the interstate. Stopped for dinner on a Friday night, dinner plates were served with soup or salad, soup was homemade and the side salad had super yummy made in house candied pecans! Dinner was also served with fresh carrots and broccoli, on a hot cast iron skillet. Meals were huge and filling, but we had to have a slice of pie! This place won an award for best kept local secret, and we know why....the pie was the best pie I have ever eaten!! Pies are also made in house by the owner, made from scratch and made daily. Service is also top notch our server knew the menu in and out and as a delight. A must stop and we look forward to making our way back!

Good food, friendly service, and unique pies. We came for lunch on a Sunday around 3PM. Very good brewed iced tea. The Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries was excellent and my husband enjoyed the French dip with grilled onions and a side of fries. The fry sauce was good. The Reuben had thick sliced, high quality pastrami, none of that thin deli meat. The onion rings were the best we've ever experienced and that's saying something. They were so good I forgot to take a picture of our meals until we were almost done. We took some pie slices home: peanut butter, black forest, orange cream (tastes like fluffy orange cream bars) and lime cream (fluffy lime- not key lime). All amazing! I appreciated the 10% discount for veterans. The food took a little while but when its fresh cooked with prime ingredients, you wait for it. And it's well worth the wait.

After searching for gluten free dining options on a well known app, we decided to eat supper here last night. Great choice. Our waitress was phenomenal. (She may have been the owner.) She was familiar with all ingredients in menu items, and was able to navigate my top food allergies and intolerances. I ordered a steak, baked potato and the veggie was a sautéed carrot. She had them make the steak w salt and pepper only; plain potato served w olive oil: and the sautéed carrots she had cooked separately in olive oil. It was phenomenal! So grateful!!!!!!!! Thank you Iron Horse!

A great French Dip served by an excellent server in this very busy, homey restaurant. The pie here ( any pie) will knock your socks off. The thundering herd is lined up out the door when the short season huckleberry pies come out of the ovens. You are gonna pay about $50 bucks for a full pie but this is no time to be a skinflint. So git-er-done!

We stopped in to soothe hunger pangs and to kill time while we waited to check in to the Sacajawea. We both ordered BLT's but my husband also ordered their tomato/basil soup. Very good. He also grabbed a small slice of pie to go. Very good. The best part of our experience? It was just fun to support a local business and eat at a local business. Our waitress was the real deal, so nice, so attentive, so down-to-earth. We will eventually find our way back to the town and we well definitely stop back in. So pleasant. If we go back, I will get a salad. We saw two delivered to a table near ours. Man, huge, and loaded with good stuff!!!!

We were staying at a local hotel and stopped in for dinner after seeing an advertisement on the highway. We were there around 6:30 pm and were seated promptly. After that, it was downhill. There were only two servers and more people started coming in. Both servers seemed like it was their first day on the job. The server that seated us got our drinks and never came back. She started seating other people and cleaning tables. After other people who came in after us were having their orders taken, we asked the other server if she could take our order. She replied, “did I seat you?” We said, no and she hesitated but did take our order. My husband ordered the steak fingers with a cup of soup and I had a sandwich with soup. The soup was okay and the steak fingers and sandwich came out with no chips, no pickle, nothing. When we got the bill we were charged extra for the soup! The one thing that was really irritating was the cook would angrily yell out a table number when he had food ready and I jumped every time because he sounded so vicious. Why not have a bell like other restaurants instead of his angry yell? Many people left and did not wait to be seated because they were virtually ignored at the door after a while as it got busier. I would not recommend this place, but it’s a small town, so you’ll probably be stuck eating there if you are visiting.

Hi Alan- As you can see from all of our amazing 5 star reviews this is not the typical experience of our customers. We have had a number of new employees and everyone has a first day and is not perfect. We are sorry our new employee were doing the best they could. Some much needed grace and patience would go a long way. Can you let us know the date and time you visited so we could look further into the visit to see exactly who was working and watch cameras for more information as well. We will address the “yelling” of table numbers but it is very loud at times in the back of house and waitress need to be able to hear the kitchen. We apologies that his tone was disrupting to you and we will address further with the staff. We are a VERY busy and VERY popular restaurant who has had the same short staffing issue as many business and we have hired new people who should be given a chance to learn the job and be given a bit of understanding for being human and making mistakes from time to time. If you ordered the steak fingers with soup, it is noted as an extra charge for soup. No where on the menu does it say we serve chips or pickle with entrees. We are sorry your expectation were different than the menu noted. All prices and descriptions of every menu items are listed on the menu for you to see before you order. We wish you the best in your travels.

I stopped in for my first time, as I had a craving for pie. They had my all time favorite, Cherry. Oh. My. Word. It was amazing! It had a perfect sweet level. Just enough sugar to take the bite of the tart cherries and soften it, and let the full cherry flavor come through. Warmed, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream is the only way to have it. I'm pretty picky about my pie. And I will be back!!

Stopped in for lunch on the advice of friends. Our waitress was top notch and made you feel right at home. My Reuben was cooked perfectly and tasted great with a good combination of dressing, cheese, kraut and meat. The tater tot sides were bordering on overcooked. The bison burger tasted good but was pretty small. There were only four varieties of pie available so we had huckleberry raspberry. It had a good flavor but was over priced for a slice.

Thank you for your review! We are so happy you had great service and you enjoy your food! Our Bison burgers are pattied at a 1/3 pound, it is a very fresh & lean meat and we are sorry you found it small. We will follow up with the kitchen to make sure they are consistent with the weighing and also the times on the fried foods. We do our very best to keep food costs down, and all our pies are made all the way from scratch with only the finest/freshest ingredients. Huckleberry are a very limited seasonal berry that cost a bit more then a typical berry to produce in pies. We appreciate your business and letting us serve you. We wish you the best and safe travels!

Found this place by chance. The breakfast provided was fantastic. The lady who served us was welcoming and made our stay there worthwhile. A big selection to choose from. Sign says "Be Patient, we are not fast food", everything is cooked fresh and you will not leave feeling hungry.

We all enjoyed the food, kids meals were great. Had to try the Apache taco special which was very good. All portions were great…but I did take away a star bc the patty size on the patty melt was pretty sad. Great service, does take a little while bc it’s made fresh but they have a coloring page and crayons for the kids. Good prices and a nice little place.

Great independent diner. Waitress was very attentive and happy to share info on the local area and further. We went there twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Both times the food was hot and great quality at very reasonable prices. The pies alone are worth a visit!

I've been looking forward to stopping at Iron Horse for years, but things just kept getting the in the way. Finally, I got the chance and jumped on it. Terrific experience - socially and gastronomically. I got there as it opened, got seated, ordered, chatted, then ate a fantastic veggie omelete brekkie. Chatted some more while finishing off some excllent coffee, ordered a slice of banana cream pie to go, then ate that after a hike down at Big Sky. Five stars hardly says it adequately., but it'll do.

While this place is a bit of the beaten path, it is worth every extra temp to get there. One reason. Pies made from scratch daily. The rest of the food offered is good diner style, but for us, the pie is the only real reason to stop.

We had pie, beer battered onion & tater tots with catsup for lunch. The coconut pie was so delicious (wish we had this pie place in Stevensville, MT) as were the onion rings. Tater tots were plain. We will return.
