Looking for high scale restaurant in Libby and found it here. This renovated home has a nice touch inside. The touch of a real kitchen was apparent when our food came. You will find a simple selection of menu items with a fair selection of specials. The specials sounded good, but at a considerably more hefty price point. So happy we stuck to the menu items - two of the pasta dishes. These two plates, #2 and #3, were reasonably priced and had different sauces that were very complex. The pasta, sausage, shrimp, cheese, baked extravaganzas were just what we were looking for. So happy to find a restaurant in this small town that understands folks with an elevated palate.
The wait staff were very nice and attentive, but likely too attentive and forward. Confident they will figure this out to match the style of this eatery.

We were driving through and we’re so glad we stopped in Libby for dinner based on the reviews we saw for Black Board Bistro. We had an outstanding meal, better than most big city foodie establishments.
I believe the menu changes often, but I’m sure anything offered would be fantastic. The 3 salads were all unique & amazing. Tabouli, Goma and Blue Chesser salads. The filet was tender, tasty perfectly cooked and accompanied with Sheri mushroom sauce, roasted steak fries and baked heirloom carrots. My wife orders tenderloin frequently and thought it was one of the best she’s had. The Mediterranean shrimp with tziziki sauce, roasted veggies and steak fries was fabulous. The wine options were fantastic and bottle prices were very reasonable. We tried the two desserts and they were delectable and appropriately sized - s’mores cake and key lime tart!
Service was great and ambiance very nice.

Chef Seth has a real gem here: the menu is creative, fresh, and delicious (we tried as many dishes in one meal as humanly possible), the decor and ambiance are classy and lovely, and the service is personal and attentive. We had a wonderful dining experience, and we highly recommend this restaurant if you're anywhere near Libby.
Thank you, Chef Seth!!

I have lived in Troy for over a year, and hadn't tried the Black Board Bistro yet. Now I'm asking myself WHY did I wait so long?! I was really craving pasta, and when I did a search, BBB came up as the #1 pasta restaurant in Libby. I grabbed my son, and off we went!
The space is charming and cozy; dining space is limited, so call to make a reservation! Fantastic service, great wines and beers, and just enough choices on the menu to make it hard to decide. They have their standard menu, and then offer the "black board" specials. The garlic mushroom fondue was fantastic, and my snow crab mac and cheese was honestly the best pasta I've ever had.
I'm telling everyone now to go give it a try; it's a hidden gem with outstanding food and service in a small town. We're very lucky to have Black Board Bistro here in Libby!

Very pleasantly surprised to find a place in Libby, MT that knows how to make proper NY style pizza! My wife and I were born and raised on the east coast, so know how pizza should be made. The Black Board has it. Highly recommend. We have also had dinner here before, having the salads and oven baked pasta dishes. These are also excellent. The Black Board is by far and away the best restaurant in Lincoln County. Relatively small venue, so reservations recommended.

In our little piece of Montana (Libby) there is a hidden treasure called the Blackboard Bistro. Having eaten at many high end establishments in the past, well this bistro surpasses all of them. The food is succulent and very tasty. My taste buds did quite the dance and song to the flavors of this amazing food. This bistro is small but very quaint with music that has a french tone to it and makes this dining experience even more incredible!!! I highly recommend this bistro!!!!!! Go treasure hunting in Libby,MT.....you will find a Montana Sapphire in your experience at this bistro!!!! It is truly a gem!!!!!!!

We were surprised to find this quality restaurant in Libby, Montana, a small town in the northwest part of the state. Recommended by our overnight host, Black Board Bistro did not disappoint in most respects.
Atmosphere: Situated in a 1920’s remodeled house-turned-restaurant, the ambiance is decidedly cozy, with maybe only 7 or 8 tables in the room. Reservations are definitely recommended as the restaurant is open only Thursday through Saturday. It was full when we dined.
Food: The menu was not extensive but the selections were mostly locally-sourced (obviously not the ocean fish). We ended up each ordering salads and then splitting an entree which was large enough to share and served with roasted seasonal vegetables. The Blue Cheese special salads were especially tasty. The entrees that night ranged in price from $40 to $42, which seemed somewhat steep for the area. Our Alaskan snapper with lump crab and a leek cream was delicious, however. We enjoyed it with a bottle of dryish white wine ( Clos Lapeyre - Jurancon Moelleux Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng blend). The service was attentive. The only disappointment was the dessert, a peach-plum crisp which seemed devoid of any pieces of fruit.

My wife and I have never been disappointed at the Blackboard Bistro in Libby. It has always been an outstanding gastronomic experience. The service is stellar, considering the limited seating. We’ve always enjoyed items on the menu as well as the daily “blackboard” specials. Not to be missed!

Short version: this is an excellent restaurant. Black Board Bistro made an incredible dinner for my wife Beth Musso and me for our anniversary. The wine list was good, and what I had paired well with the food. From appetizers to dessert, we were not disappointed. If you want fine dining, Black Board Bistro fist right in with the best restaurants in NW Montana.
Longer version: My wife and I spent the day in Libby for our anniversary, which was the first time we really spent any time in the area. We live in kalispell, so it's less than 90 minutes to Libby. But we always go to Glacier or Missoula or wherever. Never Libby. We decided to change that.
Anyways, looking for good places to eat, we hit Cabinet Mountain Brewing for lunch, which was really nice. But for dinner, we wanted a great meal. I'd heard good things from acquaintances and online reviews, but I was sceptical that the reviews online were accurate. Could have just been locals overpraising the place or tourists who were very hungry. I mean, you really don't figure you'll find a top-quality restaurant in a small Montana town in the middle of nowhere
My skepticism was totally unfounded. The first thing we got was some house-made bread. It was very good bread. I know, bread, right? But it's one of those simple things that can be a telltale sign of a good or bad restaurant. If they don't bother making their own or it's bad bread, that's a red flag for me.
In any case, we started with steamed clams, and they were excellent. Just the right chew, perfect broth. The gruyere mushrooms were really good as well.
I had a vouvray with the clams and mushrooms, which was a good choice. Nice wine with generous pours by the glass. My wife is pregnant and could not drink, so I stuck to the glass pour wines.
Moving on to the main courses, I had the filet mignon with morels, and that was perhaps the best steak I have had in Montana to date. Perfectly cooked to order, nice char, generous helping of local morels. The veggies with it were excellent as well. And it paired well with the merlot they ha by the glass. My wife had the chef's seafood special, which had crab, prawns, udon noodles and veggies. She is not a crab lover by a wide margin, but thought she'd give it a try. She still definitely doesn't like crab (though that's not the restaurant's fault), but the rest of her meal she says was amazing.
Dessert was also excellent. I had vanilla panna cotta with fruit, my wife had a chocolate toffee cake. Both were excellent. We had to stop eating the main courses because if we finished them, we'd have been stuffed. While I would not call the portions "huge", they were very filling. Service was great throughout the meal, and the atmosphere was really nice.
In all, Black Board Bistro is an excellent restaurant. My wife and I intend to spend more time in Libby this summer hiking, and we will absolutely be going back to this restaurant. If you are looking for a fine dining option that you'd find in bigger cities (or like in Whitefish, MT), go here. It's absolutely worth a visit.

What a pleasure! We were somewhat skeptical rolling into Libby for our 28th wedding anniversary dinner. Why? Well, frankly we just haven't found much in the North Idaho Panhandle or Northwest Montana area that even remotely qualifies as fine dining. Every time we go out to dine, we leave saying, "We cook better than this at home!" NOT SO TONIGHT. We had a wonderful dinner at the Black Board Bistro. Service was great. Atmosphere was nice... and oh... one of my pet peaves is offensive music or music played too loud. The music in the background was quiet and tasteful, allowing for good conversation over a meal. And the food... WOW. What a surprise. Near perfection. Everything from the salad to the entree was absolutely superb. We left satisfied and feeling like the meal and the evening were worth every penny spent.

every other place is the same, just frozen food product dumped off the back of a trailer on its way to Spokane. This place is different, very different. You will think you're in Seattle...maybe Portland....but you are in the middle of nowhere....Libby, Montanta.
The food is fresh, the chef is amazing, the wait staff is the best, if you're stopping in Libby for one meal make this your only stop. FIVE STARS!!!!!
