Visited the pub for our annual ramblers AGM in March. We had a group of 40. Quality and quantity of food was exceptional for £8.95 (seniors rate). This included main course and a pudding. Our table mostly had the roast turkey with loads of veg. Then a delicious bread & butter pudding. Service was very prompt after pre-ordering our meals... More

Stopped for lunch on a Friday (no booking made) on way down to Bridport. A lovely character pub, toasty warm on a very wet and cold day. I had scampi and chips and my husband game pie with mash. The game pie had rabbit, pigeon, pheasant and venison with a freshly baked pastry crust. The food arrived on really hot... More

Lovely country pub. You walk in and you receive a warm greeting. We went for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. Great choice of meats& vegetables. Great selection of dessert options to be chosen from a menu and brought back to you, tea or coffee after a must. They serve local beers and guest ciders, you are bid farewell by... More

Popped over to the Winyards for a quick lunch having heard some good reports from friends. Saturday lunchtime was quite busy but we were given a warm welcome and had no problem getting a table. There was a hard frost outside but despite a roaring wood fire it was quite chilly. There's not a huge menu (and no senior citizens... More

Was it too early for a light lunch on Monday morning? No.The welcome was distinctly positive. The fire had just been lit, and ours were the first pint pulled, and from our old wagon wheel window seat magnicent views from Dorset deep into Somerset. Choose what you want from the menu So it was wild mushrooms on chiabatti and a platter... More

Stayed for one night in room 2 on December 16. We were simply amazed by the quality of the room comfortable, spacious, and with an excellent range of in room amenities. The adjoining pub is steeped in history and friendly staff greeted us and made us and our dog very welcome. We dinned there in the evening and also had... More

Pub has a good feel in the bar area lovely log burning stove, the dining room is a bit cold comfort though. The food was good, they do a great burger, the deserts are overpriced I feel, it would be nice to see a few new things on the menu.

Checking in is in the bar, and this was busy, so there was a wait. The room was ideal, well priced, and larger than I had expected. Fresh milk was offered for tea and coffee so you could avoid UHT milk in little plastic containers . The bar had a great atmosphere, we only had a chessboard with a glass... More

An extremely comprehensive menu, service cheerful (be aware obviously at some times, the bar will also be full of clients so an occasional wait for a few mins is to be expected) Food is well prepared, cooked and very tasty, and definitely well priced, a lovely setting, with fantastic views across the countryside( especially lovely to be sat in the... We recently visited winyards gap the setting was beautiful and it looked a lovely English pub. There were six of us in the party the food was lovely presented a little on the warm side instead of hot but edible. But who wants to share your meal with a Saint Bernard dog that's walks around while you are eating, my... More
