About
Established in 1978 as a one room pub house, John D. McGurk’s Irish Pub and Garden has risen to the top of the class among the Irish Pubs in St. Louis. In fact, Esquire Magazine, in its June, 2011 Edition, saluting the best bars in America, chose John D. McGurk’s as its only bar honored in the city of St. Louis. McGurk’s is known throughout the Midwest for its great Irish music, food, drink, and its 10,000 square foot outdoor garden, complete with breathtaking landscaping, a fountain, a waterfall, and two terrific outdoor bars. Inside and out, McGurk’s is nearly 20,000 square feet of pure Irish fun. Irish musicians entertain the patrons nightly, traveling to St. Louis from Galway to Dublin, Cork to Derry. The inside of McGurks is a series of strung together dining rooms and bars. Its brick and wood décor with wonderful Irish artifacts makes one think they are enjoying a pub in Dublin. McGurk’s has become a great place to celebrate special occasions like rehearsal dinners and private banquets. McGurk’s has all the available Irish beer and spirits and serves lunch and dinner seven days a week. In addition to typical pub grub, McGurk’s offers wonderful steaks, assorted fish entrees, pasta specialties, and a delightful rack of lamb. Great food, drink, and entertainment make McGurk’s a memorable stop. We look forward to raising a pint with you upon your next visit. Sláinte!

12 adults and a 9 year old girl. Celebrating our twin daughters 60th birthday. I had an outstanding corned beef sandwich everyone enjoyed their food but one person had the potato soup and raved about it. We were not sitting as couples but Jacob never mixed up who got what food or the drinks and there were a number of drinks. Great job JACOB! Each couple got the correct check I was amazed. Looking forward to going back for the corned beef and cabbage our daughter said it was the best she has had at a restaurant

We loved almost everything about this restaurant! We dined inside, and the atmosphere was cozy and felt very much like a traditional pub. We enjoyed live music, too. The outdoor patio area is beautiful, as well. Can't say enough good things about the atmosphere here.
We were slightly disappointed in the lack of Irish beer options. They make up for it in Irish whiskey options, though! They did have Guiness, at least!
The food was all so good, it is hard to choose our favorite. If I had to narrow it down, I would recommend the bacon-wrapped shrimp for an appetizer, the bangers and mash for an entree, and the the cheesecake for dessert.
We also tried the spinach artichoke ravioli as an appetizer. Toasted ravioli is a St. Louis specialty and this one is a delicious option, especially for an Irish pub!
The Irish stew is a very close contender to the bangers and mash for an entree favorite. The fish and chips were excellent also.
We sampled the bread pudding, along with the cheesecake. Both were tasty, but the cheesecake wins out IMO.
We would go out of our way to come back here for dinner again next time we're in St. Louis.

Great atmosphere, we ate in the outside fountain garden area. Food was very good, there was six of us and everyone was pleased with their food. My husband had a Ruben sandwich, which he loved, it was Rye bread piled thick with corned beef, sauerkraut, and cheese. I had a chicken chef salad, it was loaded with many goodies, no complaints.

Food and atmosphere was great. Plenty of seating outside and the menu has choices to meet everyone's needs. My only compliant was service was really slow and our waiter never checked in to see if we wanted more drinks or dessert.

A friend recommended this restaurant and it was a great spot for dinner after touring the Anheuser Busch brewery. When you walk in, it's a dark-lit Irish pub with dark woodwork. We opted to sit on the patio, which was amazing. There is an open-air area with fire pits, and then a screened in area. We were seated near the fire pits, which was nice once the sun went down and got cool.
It was fairly busy for a weeknight, so the staff were busy running around and drinks took a bit. The food was amazing. Some Irish dishes and some American fare. I highly recommend the onion rings; they are some of the best I've had.
The neighborhood is interesting at night, but luckily there's parking near the bar.

This was a very enjoyable lunch spot. We got to sit at the enclosed outdoor seating next to the Koi pond. It was a nice relaxing atmosphere. The service was good and our food and drinks arrived in a timely manner. Our server was cordial, nothing over the top. But our food was delicious. We both had the rueben which was so good. The corn-beef was cooked to perfection and the dressing on the sandwich was just right. We would likely go back if in the area again.

We have had many wonderful visits to McGurks, and last weekend we got to have another fantastic meal on the beautiful patio. This is one of my favorite restaurants in St Louis. Everything they serve is great; our favorite is corned beef and cabbage, but we wanted something else so we went with the fish and chips. It was great! The ambiance, service, food, and drinks are all top notch!

This restaurant is away from downtown so you'll have to ride share or drive, but it is worth it! As other reviews stated the food is great and the service is friendly and prompt. The music started a little late the night we went so we had almost finished our meal when it started. However, we were not rushed out so we were able to enjoy the group playing.
One note: from the outside the restaurant looked closed and nothing like the pictures I've seen posted so we were concerned walking up to it after our Uber dropped us off. That feeling didn't last after walking in. It is authentic Irish Pub decor inside.
We had no idea where the courtyard that everyone posts about was until we were getting ready to leave and walked to the restrooms. The outside area is absolutely gorgeous! It's a different world with three bars and lots of seating. Unfortunately, the music is only inside so it was just as well for us since we wanted to hear some live local music while in town
Highly recommend this place. If you don't care about the music or if there is non while you're there, and the weather is good, definitely go to the side of the restaurant for the outdoor area.

It was a sunny Saturday with just a hint of fall chill in the air when we lunched with cousins in McGurk's Garden. I had a bowl of Mrs. McAteer's Potato Soup and a small Spinach Salad. Both were top notch - especially the classic potato soup. My wife loved her Smoked Turkey Club Sandwich. My cousins raved about the Fish and Chips and the Russell Street Reuben Sandwich. Service was attentive, the atmosphere pleasant and the prices reasonable.

Great, large outdoor seating area…. Think secret garden, with pavers, water fountains and…. A bar!
Menu has many “Irish” cuisine. Options. There were four of us in our group, food ranged from grilled cheese, corned beef and cabbage, Rueben and burger. .. not one of us was unhappy!

A beautiful outdoor space provides a lovely backdrop for the excellent food. There is also indoor seating but the day was so beautiful we had to sit outside. My husband had his favorite, bangers and mash and I had the Gaelic filet with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was delicious and flavorful. It couldn’t have been better. The service was also excellent. A great experience, not to be missed.

Went there for Corned Beef and Cabbage.
You would think they would have good Corned Beef
and Cabbage…… WRONG!
Corned beef was dry and stringy.
Also, they serve no bread with the meal.
Ordered a slice of Baileys cheesecake to take home -
more disappointment. It was the smallest slice I ever
saw. 4 bites tops.
Never again!

In the top 10 restaurants in St. Louis, we figured we’d give it a try. There is a large garden area which is inviting when the weathers nice. A full bar, with plenty of beer/liquor options, compliments a food menu full of standard fare and a couple Irish offerings. It is a popular and busy place. Quality and service are commensurate with the size of the operation. Still, worth a visit. Recommended.

We had the pleasure of dining in the courtyard in December. Very nice setting. There were five in our party. We all ordered different things, and everyone was happy with their selections. It seems funny to say this since it's an Irish pub, but the toasted raviolis are maybe the best I've had.

my family and I get to McGurks at least once a month, usually more often. Always friendly, always delicious. But I want to write a review in favor of the steak I had. I have really enjoyed everything on their menu so far. But I got a Gaelic Steak last time and it was quite simply THE BEST STEAK I have ever had. Oh my goodness, I cannot say enough how good it was.
