No trip back home to St. Charles, Missouri would be complete without dinner at Fratelli's Ristorante. FOOD: From the fresh complimentary bread (make sure to ask for Balsamic Vinegar) to the Toasted Ravioli followed by my to-go-to Cavatelli pasta. The house salad is delicious as...well. It just never disappoints. This restaurant is EXTREMELY busy every night with a long wait time so plan accordingly. Take out is available on most nights but if kitchen is backed up takeout may not be available.More

I guess my expectations were too high in my last visit to Fratellis Restaurant. I remember earlier times at Fratellis, and that has lead to my high expectations. Yesterday, my visit ended with a monetary slap in the face. Bottom line I won't go back....In the movie "Teacher's Pet", like Clark Gable, I will get to the point. The tea was weak, mediocre. The lemon had a black spot on the skin, but that didn't improve the flavor. In the past my wife and I could drink several classes of their strong tea, Not for me, not today. The bread was factory made to factory standards" big, fluffy, tasteless. Not like the bread that came from a Hill bakery. Miss the sweet taste of butter with the Italian bread, could be a taste bud problem (Parket? or inflation). In the past we would eat two or more baskets of bread. But for the 6 of us, we did not even finish one basket. The salad had the unique very very flavorful family dressing, and was excellent as expected. The chicken Marsala was served swimming in a pool of too much grease (olive oil?). There was one whole piece of sliced mushroom in the sauce. The chicken was well prepared. The side dish of pasta with white sauce was dry. The top the shells stuck together. I raked the pasta into the grease to give it flavor. The white sauce sank to the bottom, dried to a paste around the dry shells. How long was it under a heat lamp, or left over from yesterday? The monetary slap came from an 18% "Gratuity" charge included in the bill total. It is not polite to slap a client with unexpected actions. Taken by the owners, either they are failing to make enough profit, or they have a higher expectation in their egos, that allows them to think they are above the class of their clients. Sorry, I have not experience such blatant pride, in my visits to P.F.Changs in down town St. Charles. I have not kept up with restaurant reviews. But for me, today's Fratellis product does not equal the quality of my experience at LoRusso's Cucina on the Hill. I'm Gone! And the owners are probably glad. Smile :)More

Tried Fratelli's in St Charles, Missouri for the first time last night and was very impressed. Restaurant was mostly full so we expected to wait but were seated immediately. A waitress brought bread and butter to our table within one minute of being seated. The...waiter came another minute later and got our drink order and gave us menus. We had our drinks within another 2 minutes. My date asked about selections and John the waiter knew the menu very well. He made suggestions and changed my mind from pasta to their 16oz prime rib. My date had the chicken modiga. Salads and meals were brought within 5 minutes of ordering. Again, wow. Meals were excellent, service was excellent, John, our waiter was very attentive and excellent, coming by to check on things often. We ordered dessert after our meal and received it within 2 minutes of ordering. We had a great experience, even with a full restaurant. Fratelli's had plenty of staff and service and food was impeccable. We will be back again!!! Thank you John for making our visit excellent!!!More

Went last night for my birthday. Food was good but the Chicken Modiga I ordered had gorgonzola and mushroom sauce all over it. It was a bit overwhelming and I had to scrape some off so I cd enjoy the taste of the chicken. Husband...had Veal Marcella which he really enjoyed. Said it was the best veal dish he's ever had. Minestrone was very hearty with just the right amount of seasoning.More

We went based on the recommendation of a friend. The hostess was super nice and gave us an accurate wait time. We were seated and the server was fairly quick to get our drink order and dinner order. Apps and salads came out quick. Dinner...was timed well and came out when we finished the salads. That was the last we saw of our server until she dropped off the bill. No refills. No how was dinner. Get in and get out! Eggplant parm was way over sauced. The pizza was cold and way too much of the funky St Louis cheese.More

First the good: the hostesses and the waiter were very pleasant and did all they could to make our dining experience a good one. The prices are reasonable relative to portion sizes. The Bad: provel cheese. It is on the salad, pizza, lasagna and who...knows what else. The tomato sauce is pretty bland and without much character. The ugly: the rave reviews on TA that enticed us to make the 30 minute drive to this restaurant.More

Provel cheese is a staple of local Italian cuisine and culture. So sorry you didn't enjoy your experience.

We decided to try Fratelli’s because the reviews were good, BUT, you should know that this is not regular Italian food. It’s all made with provell cheese :(. The pizza, salad, lasagna, pasta… if you’re not from St Louis, and you don’t like velvets on...your pizza and pasta, you are not going to enjoy this food. Just not good. The server was excellent, so kind and friendly, but this was not Italian food.More

Our menu lists Mozzarella as a substitute for any guest who doesn't care for Provel, and can easily be switched out for any dish. Sorry you didn't enjoy the local Italian flavors. No need to bash.

We've found out "go to" for incredibly delicious Italian food that is close to home. After moving here 7 years ago and leaving our KC favorite, Garozzo's, we have been searching for the same excellence. Fratelli's satisfies our needs for excellent food and service with...a tab that didn't necessitate a second mortgage! Our dinner tonight exceeded our expectations and our server Kathy was a pro. Thank you for a wonderful anniversary dinner.More

Great spot for Italian food in suburban St. Louis. I had the chicken parmesan, which was excellent. I will definitely pay a visit again if I am in the area.More

Cons: The cons were all about the food. Only one category, but an important one given the nature of the business. * Bread basket was gummy grocery-store bread. * Italian mojito: Nice idea but cheap gin and the bartender apparently didn't know to crush the...basil. * Calamari: Tender squid but beyond greasy. * Linguini tutti del mar: This one was actually shocking. It was so salty neither I nor my companion could eat it. ALL we tasted was salt. And I LIKE salt! Normally I salt my food at a restaurant. But this was nuts. Literally unpalatable. * The side salad: If it's going to be salad that you have to order & pay for separately (which it was) it should be a nice salad. Not a flat, overly dressed, badly presented salad. * The rigatoni carbonara that was our replacement dinner was not real carbonara. It seemed to be alfredo sauce with some pancetta in it. The posta was overcooked and it was too salty, but edible. Pros: * Clean and nicely laid out. * Seated right away. * Server was prompt, friendly, and polite. * Our food was replaced without question and fairly quickly. * Easy parking.More

Great waiter. All the staff were nice. I like the colors and decor of the restaurant. We had salads, calamari appetizer and 5 different pasta entrees, each being quite different and quite tasty. The deluxe salad entree was amazing. The calamari was okay. We had...spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli with 3 different sauces, fettuccine with a light red sauce, pesto pasta with chicken and stuffed cannelloni. I was tempted to try the lasagna, but will try next time. Prices were reasonable. This is a very popular restaurant in St Charles. .More
