Dinner for 6. Duck-very good. Braised beef-tender & flavorful. Caesar salad-forgot anchovies. Brussel sprouts-skillet way to hot. Salads served after entrees served. Night of Las Posados so very busy. 15 min. to get check-missed processional. Overall nice atmosphere & Ms. Donna, the owner, was a...delight.More

The perfect restaurant for brunch. The food was delicious and I especially enjoyed the toddy and chess pie from scratch. Service was on point as well. The server was very pleasant and accommodating and other staff checked on us as well. Highly recommend Tompkins.

We were a party of 12 with a reservation. They were able to seat us quickly. Unfortunately they didn't have a round table so you couldn't talk to everyone at the table. It was a set price and we knew that going in. That being...said it was served family style and they were very hesitant to refill the dishes. We had 3 teenage boys and they can eat. I think the price was too high for what we got. I will go back but not for a set price menu, it wasn't the same quality that you get ordering off the menu.More

If you’re hungry this isn’t the restaurant for you. I made a reservation and we still waited for an hour and a half for food after ordering. Although they did take $40 off of my bill I still would not go back. Tiny portions. This...place is not worth the time or the $pend. Lewis and Clark or Salt N’ smoke which is nearby is much better.More

Went for wine and appetizers. Appetizers were so so and wine was too expensive for what it was. Service was sketchy.

I love old St. Charles and enjoy all the restaurants on Main Street. I try to support the local restaurants. My grandmother was integral in the formation of Main Street as it is today. I made reservations for 7:45 and we were seated promptly. I...dined there Saturday night for my son's 40th birthday with his wife and my brother. My son and I ordered steak. We also ordered an appetizer, a bottle of wine and other drinks. The appetizer was a cheese plate that was $16. We quickly ran out of the toast that was served with it as there was not enough bread for four people and lots of cheese left. We asked the waiter to bring out more toast pieces and were informed it would be a four-dollar charge. We declined. Then he attempted to remove the left over cheese. From the time we ordered the meal it was an hour and fifteen minutes before we got our meal. Since it took so long we asked if they could bring out some bread. The waiter informed us that would be another up charge of seven dollars. He explained that this was artisan bread and made on the premises. We ordered the bread. A few minutes later he came back out and told us they were out of the bread, but could bring out some of the toast we had with our cheese, which did not arrive until after the meal.. The steaks were $34 and were definitely on the small side. No salad or bread was included. The side dishes were small. To top it all off my entire plate was cold. I asked the waiter to warm it up, It was returned with the potatoes and vegetable still cold. I ate it anyway because by that point I was very frustrated and hungry. My brother ordered a seven-layer Cobb salad for his entree and it was the size of a dinner salad. I was embarrassed that I had suggested this restaurant. I truly do want unique restaurants in this area to succeed, but I feel the restaurant is, shall we say, "biting off its nose to spite its face.". The child-like portions, no bread service, prices that are suggestive of a fine restaurant, but lack the basics, and lack of recognition by the waiter that he had a table that was there for a special occasion and the frustration that he should have recognized was very disappointing. I never write restaurant reviews, though I dine out very regularly. This one deserves the rating and bad review. People who are charmed by the atmosphere, beware.More

Outstanding lunch! We stopped by during our annual visit to Main Street during the holidays and we were really pleased. It is not a quick in and out meal as it is farm to table. Their artichoke bacon spread is out this world. My granddaughters...had the grilled cheese sandwiches which were great. We will certainly be back when it is warm and can sit outside on the patio. Highly recommend if you are looking for a wonderful meal and great service.More

First I like to say the service was excellent. We ordered their special for $24 the gnocchi, the serving size was for a small child. There was 6 small pieces of gnocchi a few tomatoes pieces and some peas. We felt extremely cheated on portion...and price for this dish! We ordered the Cobb salad that was good but the ranch dressing that came with it was not filled all the way to be enough for the salad and asked for more, we were charged 75 cents extra. We did get the special pulled pork and potato salad that were both great. We left very disappointed because of gnocchi and dressing issues !!!More

They have a beautiful patio that was in the shade. The host was nice, there was a wait so we went shopping until they texted us which worked well. We had the cheese plate appetizer, it was generous. We had leftovers with 2 kids &...2 adults eating. There is a kids menu, it wasn’t printed but was available. The kids grilled cheese with fries must have been good, they ate it all. I had the BLT, it was amazing. The bacon was thick & there was a tomato relish on it that I loved. That and my husbands burger came with mixed greens that we really liked. The family shared a death by chocolate & it was really good too. Our server did a great job.More

Celebrated my husband's birthday at this delightful restaurant. From the artisan bread and oyster appetizer to the craft drinks and dinner selections (grouper special and pork loin) our meals were outstanding from start to finish.

Our dining experience was amazing! The staff was so polite, kind, and helpful and made us feel like we were the most important people in the world. Our Steaks were cooked to absolute perfection and the cuts of meat were so high quality, they didn't...even give us steak knives because we could cut it with our butter knives! Everything is made from scratch. The freshly made sourdough and homemade butter was an amazing starter to our meal. We will definitely be returning in the future!More

My husband and I have been going here the past two years for our anniversary. It has not disappointed and is a great spot for a special occasion in a quiet setting. The restaurant specializes in locally sourced food. Everything is from less than 100...miles from the restaurant (with the exception of some obvious seafood items). The smoked trout appetizer is our favorite. They put a different spin on it each time they have it on the menu. The menu changes quarterly, so if you like something, come often! We also had the house made sourdough bread with sea salt butter, pumpkin agnolotti, market fish (I believe it was halibut that day) and death by chocolate. I drank a southern belle. My husband had whiskey. The liquor menu is fairly extensive, along with beer and wine. A typical meal here for two will cost around $100 or more with an appetizer, 2 entrees, dessert and drinks. This is absolutely the highest quality food you will find on Main Street if you are ranking by quality, uniqueness and environmentally responsible. It's just as good as anything in Europe or the coastal U.S. If you are impressed by McDonald's, this probably isn't the place for you as I'm not sure you'd appreciate it for the price. Ask your server about the history of the house. It is called the Mother-in-Law House because a merchant built it to house his family on one side of it and his mother in law on the other. The mother-in-law's fireplace is still in the main restaurant. There are many stories that it is haunted. Your server can fill you in if interested.More

Fantastic find! This is presumably an historical old house (nicely situated halfway down Main Street), beautifully restored and cozy. My friend and I both ordered the pumpkin soup and Baby Gem salad. The soup... dreamy! We ordered sans granola but the apples and apple butter...on the side were perfect. Try it, you won't be disappointed! The salad was a slightly unique take on a Caesar salad--a cross between a wedge and Mayfair salad perhaps. The chef uses crisp Bibb lettuce and finely chopped bacon. Can't wait to visit again to try something else! Hopefully, by then, the owner will address the constant (loud) banging of some door closing in the back. It was constant and pretty distracting.More

Donna will straighten out any problems that may occur. I have never had a problem in all the years I have been going there. I don't know why there would have been an upcharge for a pickle. Doesn't make sense to me.
