I want to start by saying, just because I rated it poor this time doesn't mean I dislike this place. I really, really like this place, just read my post that was posted before and see how much I liked it.
The proprietor and the...employees are great. All are very nice and willing to help.
This is the reason I rated it poor this trip. I just hate it when I find a hidden gem like this and then when I return I get disappointed.
When my wife and myself came back. We came in at 4:00 pm and had a seat, there were only maybe 10 customers in the dining room. The hostess was very nice and so was the waiter.
Here's my beef. My wife ordered the half chicken plate with the delicious baked beans that I love so much. The chicken, while it had a very good taste was undercooked and therefore wasn't a good meal. The baked potato was not hot enough to melt the butter and the bread was dry. I had the fried fish because this was Friday and the brisket was served only on Saturday. I was disappointed because the fish was luke warm and soft not hot and crispy like the last time I was here. The hush puppies were luke warm as well. The cole slaw was just as good as the last time. The slice of onion was the good white onion sliced in 1/4" slices just right for eating with the fish. So overall it was not a good experience.
Now with that said I'm not giving up on this place. I think it was just an off time. It bothers me that I may not get to eat here because sometimes, like today, off times is the only time I'm here and am able to eat. I would like to see them make sure the food is fresh and hot at all times not just at lunch and dinner times. I would encourage them not to leave fish under the heat lamps for long periods of time just to avoid frying up a fresh hot batch of fish it will cost you in the long run. If they do not give attention to this problem and correct it, they run the risk of losing local customers and becoming just another hit or miss ho hum restaurant.More
