Love this place! A hidden gem. We are here 3 years ago on our way through so we were anxious to eat there again. We were not disappointed. Do not miss their homemade onion rings. Salads are great as well as their smashed steak burgers.

I stopped at this restaurant for lunch and it was fantastic. I had always heard really good things about this restaurant. The staff was friendly and I was served quickly. I had the Cajun Chicken sandwich and it was excellent. This place gets very busy...around peak times so get there early for lunch. For dinner. I'd recommend reservations if you plan on dinner on weekends and holidays. Great place.More

Went to AJ's Tonight for dinner. Was told 45 minute wait after an hour we were told still 5 ahead of us and they did not know when our table would be ready. Several had been waiting 90 minutes and like us we're told 45...minutes. We said just for get it and the owner came to us and said we have been sold out like this would make us feel better. Our question back to him was why are you telling people 45 minutes when you are sold out!!! Several couples, families left no one wants to be lied too. Don't tell people times when you haven't tables......this never happened when Al the original owner was in charge...More

My sister and starting seeing the sign's for AJ's Pear Tree Kitchen and Bar long before we got to Macon. We liked that it wasn't fast food or a chain so we stopped for a late lunch. Where to start? Plenty of parking, nice interior,...GREAT service (Thank you, Caiti J!), reasonable prices, large beer selection and surprising good menu selection. We both got AJs fish platter which was battered in-house and served straight out of the fryer! The lunch came with a large, fresh salad served family style with a selection of six salad dressings brought along with the salad. The blue cheese dressing was great and the housemate garlic croutons were crispy and garlicy. So good! ($15.99) Caiti suggested a local IPA (beer) which was very good.($4.75) My sister said the iced teas was very good, too. All-in-all, a great meal - and lovely surprise - in small town Macon, MO on Highway 63/1407 N. Missouri Street.More

After moving from Bevier, The Pear Tree was reinvigorated as AJs Eat and Drink. The quality has remained after the move as Al’s son has taken the reigns. For decades, this has been the spot for a date or other special occasion. I remember coming...here as a teenager when it was in Bevier. The steaks are top notch and aged (at least they taste like they are). The seafood is a good as you can get in the middle of Missouri. I highly recommend this if you are in the area. Definitely a hidden gem for North Central Missouri.More

AJ's gave me the impression that it wanted to be in two worlds of fancy dining combined with country simplicity. For example, dinner rolls were served in a paper bag, and the salad dressing was served in plastic squeeze bottles, but the salad was served...in a classic bowl. The food was tasty. I had the chicken tenders and my wife had the fish. The side dishes were hit or miss. The best potatoes were the shoestring potatoes. The chicken was tender and cooked perfectly, and the fish was done perfectly. The rice pilaf was okay, the cauliflower was really good. The waitress was very nice. We had plenty of food to eat. We did not try the wedding cake dessert as it looked like a service for 4. Most of the food seemed overpriced.More

I sat at the bar for dinner tonight and ordered the steak medallions with shrimp. They brought out my salad and I dressed it and I started to eat it. The bartender came around the bar and started to clean the bar by spraying sanitizer...and wiping it down. As she was spraying the bar top down is sprayed sanitizer all over my phone, my arm, and yes you guessed it, my salad. I told her about it and she got me a new salad. When they brought out my main course I cut into the steak and put it into my mouth and it was cold. The steak was cold. The sauce was cold. The Asparagus was cold. The shrimp was cold. The plate was even cold. When you pay $50 for a meal you expect it hot. The only reason I’m giving it a 2 is because the flavor was good. If your going to charge this much for a meal I feel it better be right. To top it off they didn’t even offer me at least a discount.More

We stopped for a mid-week late lunch. The service and atmosphere was good. My son had a burger and fries that looked and tasted great. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, which consisted of a thin dry chicken breast on a tasteless bun. The cheese...on it was good, and the vegetable side was tasty. I'd call them a pricey steak house that tossed some alternative food on the menu for those of us who don't always order beef. If you go, order the beef.More

We just had one of the best diners in a very long time. We got there during happy hour and they had a special menu. Cheaper prices on the onion rings (a must so good) and toasted rav (yeah just as good as the rings)....Wife got the petite prime rib( not petite at all, wow great size), I got the kabobs and let me tell you, the seasoning was spot on and the cook perfect oh and melts in your mouth, amazing. We also got salads, very good, and to top it off the the chocolate gooey cake thingy with was delicious. We just happen to be staying over night here in Macon and decided to give them a try, its worth the two hour and half drive from the house alone. Give this place a try, you will love it.More

A bit on the pricey side. Food is awesome, especially the onion rings and fried lobster bite$$$. Steak was very good, prime rib was a little chewy.

Still the same great food but renamed The Pear Tree after the original restaurant in nearby Bevier. Had my favorites—Tenderloin, Onion Rings and salad. Servers wore masks and gloves and tables were well spaced.
