We received a coupon in the mail for this restaurant and thought we'd try it. Ordered the fried shrimp, dumplings and crab rangoons....the best thing was the crab rangoons, and they were just average. The dumplings were really bad and the fried shrimp the same......I knew we were in trouble when I walked in for the takeout on a Saturday evening and the place was empty. I don't mean there were a couple of people; I mean empty. The proprietors were nice enough, but the food was terrible, so we won't be back.More

We've been coming here over the years and it's always pretty constant. Typical Chinese buffet offerings like a couple of soups, a bunch of fried stuff, really good fried rice and noodles, Kung Paos, MooGoos...you know how it is. My favorite is the hot and...sour soup with the crispy noodles and a crab rangoon followed by the lo mein with some General Tso's chicken. It's not fancy but you never have to wait for a table and after you're stuffed you can wander Ace or the Dollar Store.More

My wife and I ate here last night for supper. I had been here a few weeks ago during lunch shift and it was pretty good. The Szechuan chicken on the buffet was not only dried up (probably left over from lunch), it was cold....Sadly, not cold enough to inhibit bacterial growth. The crab rangoon (usually good) was not entirely cooked on the won-ton wrapper (dougy). Frankly, most of the dishes seemed to be lunch leftovers not kept at temperatures that are safe. If the health dept. checked temps, I am quite sure several of the buffet items would have been thrown out. Deserts were stale and puddings tasted really old, chocolate even separating. Orange slices very dried up. The people who run this are always nice, but the food here on this visit was questionable.More

I really like this place, my husband and I have gotten takeout a couple times and it’s really met our expectations. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is that we always order the same thing and the price is different every time,...I know we must be ordering different portions to get these different prices but it’s overall just a little confusing when we say the same words and get different things.More

We have been eating at China Dragon J for several years -- we have seen different managers come and go. The food is excellent, and so is the service and friendliness of the staff. I would highly recommend this location.

My family and I have been going here for some time. The food is good, and most times the buffet is well stocked. Like most chinese restaurants you need to go during their prime hours if you want fresh food from the buffet. The prices...are fair and the service is good.More

We have been regulars at China Dragon J longer than the name has existed. The previous owners changed the name after a couple of years due to a conflict with another restaurant of the same name. The current owners have had it for less than...6 months. It has always been a very good restaurant, through changes of owners and wait staff. The buffet is mostly the same for lunch and dinner, with a few tweaks. About 10 main dishes, with steamed rice and fried rice and lo mein noodles. A good variety of appetizers, along with egg rolls, spring rolls, and crab Rangoon, two types of soup, and a dessert buffet that isn't all that exciting but does include ice cream. Prices are pretty typical of Chinese restaurants in the area. One recent addition is a TV, which at dinner time is tuned to news. Whether for good or bad, it at least provides the option of catching up on the news if you choose to do that. The waitresses are always friendly and a little too eager to refill your drink. Usually mine is still 2/3 full when they ask if I want more drink. The buffet is kept full and reasonably fresh. If you like Chinese buffets, this one is a good one to visit regularly.More

China Dragon J is good, but not exceptional. It is our favorite chinese buffet in Lee's Summit, but there are only a few to choose from. The food is usually great, only problem is it is not always fresh. It's kind of hit or miss!...Usually a decent meal, though.More
