We have had their bakery items like cupcakes & cookies, but today we had lunch. Wife had the wrap and I had tge chicken salad. Both items were excellent, plus they serve homemade potato chips. Save room for dessert, I recommend the peanut butter chocolate cookie...Yum!!

I am here every week and every time it is a great experience! I have brought at least seven different friends here from all over KC and they have all enjoyed this bakery as much as I do. From the friendly, welcoming staff to the wonderful food and smells and sights and sounds (including GREAT music) you just can't beat... More

We stopped for a couple rolls. Their cinnamon roll was good, the croissant was OK. Nothing special from our perspective. Selection was limited around 9A.

Another Kansas City Institution, McLain's Bakery has been revered for decades as the go-to place for fine pastries. Originally in the Waldo area of Mid-town KC, they have moved to a larger retail space a couple miles East. Recently, they even opened a second location in Overland Park......McLain's Market ( bakery/ coffee shop/ sandwich shop ). Whenever there is an... More

I have been going to most of my adult life for cookies, pastries, cakes etc and am never disappointed. The new owners are very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that if I go at the last minute before they close they may be sold out of what I want - if so I just get something else delicious.

Was so excited about their return and expansion south in the near future. Let's just say compared to pastries in other cities, they have a long way to go. Selection is poor. Lunch menu ordinary. Ordered a birthday cake and was quoted a price at order time, and charged $10 upgrade fee at pickup time. Upgrade cost should of been... More

Hallmarkers, sorry to hear that you had less than an amazing experience. Our pastry selection does tend to decrease as the day goes by, as we try not overproduce / waste and sell out by lunch time some days. Our lunch menu includes a wrap, two sandwiches and two salads, and our new location (McLain's Market) will have an expanded... More

I was told we were going McClain's this afternoon while I was in a bad mood, and remembering the last time I was there the place was owned by some cranky guy didn't help my demeanor. However, upon entering the bakery I was greeted by a fun and cute space and cases full of delicious looking pastries and cookies. Even... More

This bakery in some form has been around for many years, I bought my wedding cake here 35 years ago from the original restaurant I recently visited for a Saturday treat after a long run. They still have the original pastries and some added breakfast items. We tried an egg sandwich and butter roll, they were both delicious . The... More

Everything about the food was great, we ended up buying a rustic english baguette and challah because our meal was amazing. However, the layout of the place is terrible. There is no waiting service as you have to make the order at the counter and pick it up yourself when called. You can barely hear your name over the noise.... More

Thank you very much for the feedback, glad you enjoyed your meal and we apologize for the difficulty in terms of layout, space and potential confusion. Saturdays are by far our busiest day, with three times the amount of people through the doors in a compressed amount of time, and we are still working through logistics and layout to provide... A Kansas City tradition (since 1945), McLain's Bakery has been making the highest quality pastries, cookies, cakes and breads for the past 70 years. Come on in for one of your old favorites, whether it's our famous chocolate cup cookies, a fruit danish, or a coffee cake. Then, take a look around and try something new, maybe a cup of hot Thou Mayest coffee, a cold glass of milk from the local Shatto Milk Company, or a fresh loaf of artisan bread.
