We went to Jess and Jim’s steakhouse for our anniversary. We had been there several times before. It will be our last time eating there. Service was ok and we were seat promptly with a reservation. The fresh beets are a winner with my wife....She had the porterhouse medium with shrimp scampi on the side. The steak was of poor quality and not cooked correctly. The edges were well done and it had a cold red center. The shrimp tasted like rubber dipped in garlic. Even with a sharp steak knife she spent most of her time cutting all of the gristle out of her steak. She said the salad was good. I had the prime beef soup. Not bad but tasted like pot roast, not very prime. My steak was also filled with gristle and fat and poorly cooked. Well done to medium rare. The highlight of my meal was the baked potato. Pretty sad for what was a great steakhouse. Save you money and go to Texas Roadhouse you will get a better meal for a lot less money. We will not be going backMore

Went with a large group. Don't know how the others' steaks were, but my wife's and mine were tasteless and a bit tough. (Medium and medium rare) Service was good as was salad and potato. For a place that is known for steak, I can...say the chicken fingers might have been a better option. Outback is better quality and considerably better priced.More

Jess & Jim's have as good a steak as you can find. Tender, properly cooked, served sizzling on a platter. The baked potato is a work of art.

Everything was perfect. Excellent atmosphere. Friendly and competent service. The food was expertly prepared and of very high quality. Reasonable prices for the quality. This was the finest all-around steak house I have ever been to.

Decent steak, but nothing special. My wife had a burger, I had a ribeye steak. The twice baked potato was good. Her burger was okay she said. You could go to a chain restaurant and spend half the money and get as good or better...steak.More

This place has been around for a long long time Why? Because it is a great restaurant. Start with good wait staff- add many local microbrews on tap- and oh yes- add great meat The filet was top notch and the baked potato had to...weigh a pound. Add Texas toast and a salad that is included- top notch value Wished I lived here- would eat here at least a few times a monthMore

We had reservations for 5 people at 6:30- from our first impression we should have KNOWN to leave. We were not told upon making the reservation we needed to wear masks to come in (which was fine) but when we asked for masks we got...rude looks and asked do we not have our own in our car?! This was for my Dads birthday and we traveled from North GA! The steaks were TERRIBLE! Even after sending 2 of them back! And understand these steaks are 26-65$ depending on the cut! We saw multiple people come in after us with no masks And not spoke to like we were! And the fact that we found out that Debbie who is the owner was who spoke to us like that!? How do you run a business that way. She was even correcting her poor staff in front of customers. Please don’t waste your time responding to this. Instead find a way to get better cooks and better your restaurant because my family in KC will never step foot in your establishment again.More

My husband found this on a facebook list of top steakhouses in the United States. We weren't disappointed....Our server was Torrie and he was not only attentive, he was a lot of fun. I had a KC Strip and my husband had a Ribeye. I...would recommend both, along with a shrimp cocktail starter.More

Haven't been to this place for many years even though it is close to home. Décor hasn't changed in all that time, but you can't eat the furnishings! You can, however, eat one of the best steaks ever. For my birthday celebration I was hungry...for a good steak. That's exactly what I got. I had the porterhouse which was not only delicious, it was HUGE, very tasty and done to a perfect medium rare. The baked potato was also huge and delicious. Wife had ribeye which was also excellent. Drinks were very good and so was the service. A nice piece of chocolate desert was served with a candle to celebrate birthday. Had enough left overs for another dinner next day. Prices not out of line with comparable restaurants. We will return soon and often. Be sure to order seasoning on the steak! It was yummy!More

The server was friendly. The food was ok. The apps that we ordered were good. The steaks needed some seasoning. The twice cooked potatoes were good. The mushrooms were drowning in butter. There was a large scoop of butter on the top of the mashed...potatoes. If you like butter, this is definitely the place for you.More

My husband and I found this place on a Google search when we were in Kansas City for appointments, and what a find it was! The service was exceptional, and the food was absolutely some of the best steaks and sides we’ve ever had!

The husband and I went there on a Sunday night in June. We had not been there in years and decided to try something different for a steakhouse outside of the usual chain restaurants. We had big expectations given all the boasting signage about Playboy...and being one of the top ten steakhouses in the world. The waitress was distracted with the show on the TV and was very disengaged and apparently they were short staffed in the kitchen, we learned after waiting almost 30 minutes for our food. My husband's filet was under done, my prime rib was overdone. The waitress harried by and and commented rather than asked, "everything still great". We never told her it was great and she never asked.. No offer of dessert, just check plopped on the table . Needless to say we were disappointed and for what we paid, the food and service should have been better. We understand that restaurants are short staffed right now but it was not busy and the wait staff were standing around. We should have gone to one of the chain steakhouses, it would have been faster, cheaper and better than what we had. That was the last time we will be going there.More
