I lived in West Africa for a decade and have worked there for over 30 years and the food at Fannie's West African Cuisine was better than any homemade or great restaurant in West Africa I ever ate at. If you've never eaten West African food you are missing a wonderful experience. The Cassava Leaf and the Jollof Rice were out of this world as were the Plantains. Do yourself a huge favor and go to Fannie's. You will not only never regret it, you will start a whole new experience you can share with other friends.

Fried Eggplant w/Beef: excellent sauce flavors, beef stew meat fork tender--- delicious! Shrimp stew: tomato-based sauce just spicy enough; loads of shrimp. If you haven't tried Fufu, order it! Best dipping carb, ever. This is a KC "Best 10" restaurant, easily. All the food is made fresh, so don't go expecting to be served within minutes: your patience will be rewarded! The Maltena and (freshly made) ginger beverages also were amazing! Friendly servers, great music.

Jollof Rice: deliciously crispy spiced chicken atop a bed of red rice with a pepper dipping sauce and veggies--- one of the best dishes in KC! My companion had Goat Pepper Soup with FuFu (a doughy delight made from yams or cassava)--- just as unusual and delicious as my entree (it is somewhat spicy, so be forewarned). Too often, chefs try hard to be original, to give diners unusual flavors: most of the time, the results just don't taste very good. Fannie's offerings, however, are delicious and packed with flavors we'd never experienced. The ginger drinks were the best we've ever had, too. Bonuses: African music; videos. Lastly, the staff are friendly and attentive! This is one of the best restaurants in KC; a top-5 choice. (We have visited 3 times and each time it was consistently superb).

This was my first time eating here. My sisters and i ordered our food about 4:15. We were told that it would be 45 mins and we were ok with the wait. There were people that can in to eat inside and they received their food before our order. long story short it took 2 hours to get our food. normally i would have asked for my money back. now to the good part the food was good and spicy like i like it BUT one of my orders was not correct so i not to happy about that. still trying to debate if i will return.

I was complaining recently that there was no West African food in Kansas City, and someone mentioned Fannie's to me. I finally got to go there yesterday, and I was very pleasantly surprised ... The restaurant is clean and tidy, and the owners are structuring people to stay spaced out for COVID-19 safety. Now, West African cuisine is one of those hidden gems of the world food world. It has vibrant tastes, lots of novel agreements, and nice surprises. I ordered one of my favorites from West African trips ... banku, which is made from fermented cassava. The banku lunch special was served with a 14-inch mackerel (perfectly fried!), a bowl of pepper sauce (very tasty), a pile of fresh vegetables, and the banku meal. Oh yes, and some fried plantains as well. Needless to say, I ended up quite full, but full of great tastes... The ginger drink was nicely prepared also, and the service was pleasant and prompt. In sum, this place is a hidden gem, and I will go back a bunch of times...

What a hidden gem in kansas city. We got spoiled today with some delicious African food. Our favorites were the Jollof rice and the whole fried Mackeral. Everything was made fresh to order, so we didn't mind relaxing for our food to come out. If you are in a hurry I would suggest calling in and taking out. Can't wait to visit again, my husband said this is his new favorite restaurant!!

Theee of us tried this place. I am not a foodie. The other two are. Great food in a neat atmosphere in an area you might not expect it. Good flavors. Good food. Great hospitality. It’s all home cooked. Go. Enjoy.

Newly opened West African restaurant with food and flavors I've not seen anywhere near KC. Three of us went for lunch; restaurant was nearly empty, but several takeouts while we were there. In conversation with server we learned that the food is prepared by his mother and grandmother with traditional Nigerian recipes. We shared the peanut soup, the jollof rice, and kebabs. Peanut "soup" was awesome--more like chicken in a peanut sauce served with rice. Flavor was totally complex and wonderful. Same for jollof rice. Excellent sauces and what appeared to be chutney accompanying it. White tablecloths suggests they are aiming for the dinner crowd, which they most richly deserve. Amazing place that we'll be going back to and trying the more expanded dinner menu.
