Food and ambience

The Oliver is a refined version of an American tavern, inventive while firmly rooted in the comforts of time-honored classic cuisine and refreshments. The Oliver’s modern-urban charm embraces local ingredients and seasonality, infusing them with a maker's passion for starting from scratch and the pride of creativity, and producing the rare opportunity for food and drink to rise to a new level.

My wife and I visited KC for our sons wedding and stopped off at The Oliver for dinner. We had a wonderful dinner and I had several great beers. The waiter was not very good though and we had to ask several times to place...More

We tried this for the first time during restaurant week. Great atmosphere. Enjoyed the salad, main course (steak for me, chicken for wife) and desserts (lemon cake and brownie). The service was so-so. Not sure if our waitress was new or not. My Plaza $50...More

We stopped in for a few drinks and sat at the bar. Our bartender (unfortunately I can't remember his name) was great at what he does. He was taking care of us and a few others, including some rowdy patrons who had been celebrating the...More

This establishment could be amazing if they could keep some consistency. Some visits are wonderful, great food and great service and other times, one or the other (or both) are lacking. The bar and the drinks have been consistently good. The craft cocktail (The Nighthawk)...More

My experience was so-so. Drinks were overpriced at the bar. The long table at which we were seated had a stupid back that you could push back, but while eating, you have absolutely no back support. I might as well have been sitting on a...More

We had a group of 7 for brunch. We arrived soon after opening and were seated in a perfect size round table that worked great for conversation. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal and selected a variety of items from the cocktail and wine menu....More

Warm decor. Nice staff. Nice bar. The food was ordinary and just so-so in the world of ordinary food. We had two chicken entrees—truly nothing special. I wonder if management ever eats here. Not horrible. I suppose that’s the best I can say.

My wife and I had dinner at the Oliver last minute this past weekend. I'd tried it twice before and wasn't overly impressed, but we decided to give it a shot. We just decided to share some appetizers and we really enjoyed the food and...More

The Caesar salad was fantastic. Deconstructed red snapper tacos were spicy & delicious. Filet was not cooked to the temperature requested & the red wine butter didn’t melt. Fries were boring. Beer is bottled. Service is mediocre. Women’s bathroom could use an update. Probably won’t...More

I had lunch here during my one-day trip to Kansas City. What a treat! Southern fried chicken plus a delicious salad, and a yummy bread basket. Everything was so good! Plus, the atmosphere is really charming, homey, and the staff was attentive. Great experience!
