After reading reviews in TripAdvisor I decided to give it a try. It was an enjoyable experience that there will be a return visit on my next trip too the area. The wood-fired pizza was out of the world. Highly Reccomended

After touring the Missouri State Penitentiary, we needed a place for lunch before leaving town. We decided what would be better after a pen tour than the Prison Brews pub. Well we were not disappointed. The building looks very plain on the outside, but once you walk through the doors there was so much character ... unbelievable. We were so... More

Our son and daughter in law from Cincinnati visited with us. They commended that Prison Brews is just as nice as many of the craft breweries in Cincinnati. Enjoyed the beer sampler and food.

First time visiting and we were pretty impressed with this location. The decor is all prison related from the entrance to the booths, pretty cool considering the history. The beer selection was pretty good and we tried a couple of the local brews and were not disappointed. The food was good as well, we tried several items and everyone enjoyed... More

My husband and I enjoyed our first visit to Prison Brews. Sweet Potato fries are one of my favorite side dishes/appetizers and the order of SP fries served here were top rate! Crisp, lightly dusted with cinnamon and sugar equals delicious! They came with a chipotle ketchup sauce which I did not like, but our server very kindly answered my... More

The restaurant brews it's own beer and also has commercial beers and liquors. Their brews are good. Try the sampler. Food is also good but maybe a little on the pricey side.

I can see why this is a popular place, as it's the only brewery & restaurant in this decent-sized city. It's pretty much the beer garden/sports bar atmosphere everybody loves after work or on a weekend. We didn't eat, but weren't really impressed with the beers. They had the familiar (and disappointing) taste of the beer kit mixes.

Once upon a time, Prison Brews didn't have their own beer and it was still a great place to eat. But with a line up of great beer - the sampler flight is well worth it - it's an even better place to hang out, drink and talk, especially when the weather allowa you to sit out back. The booths... Loved the sweet potato fries and the black bean veggie burger - what a treat! The decore was cool, especially the booths. I enjoyed their specialty light cream ale and watched the game on one of their many tv screens. The only criticism is the sign is hard to see on the outside up high - maybe put something on... More

This restaurant/bar is built in an old prison/jail. Interesting décor ,that's for certain. I had the half rack ribs special...excellent! My wife had the turkey wrap, which she loved. Excellent tasting and big enough pile of sweet potato fries. To top it off for the special, we shared a terrific cobbler, hot with flaky crust chunks. TVs with 4 games... More

Description
Prison Brews was opened in 2007 in a part of town that once housed the state penitentiary and is now experiencing residential / commercial re-growth. This has become a popular brewery with wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, etc. It has completely embraced the "prison" kitsch feel with bars between the bar & dining area and pictures of the 1800's penitentiary historical artifact lining the walls. The menu items and beers on tap are also incorporated into the theme. There is a large dining area as well as large outdoor seating on the adjacent patio complete with bocce ball. A unique experience in a growing area of town.
