This was a great local spot with a huge menu!! The cheese fries were amazing, fried pickles were fantastic and all the beer was great! I would recommend the pork tenderloin sandwich! Good prices and good service in a cool atmosphere.

If I want a hamburger, and I'm not talking McDonalds--this is where I go. The service isn't always the greatest (hence the 4-stars) but the food has always been good. They serve seasoned fries also. The atmosphere is fun. If you're feeling adventurous order the sampler of the beer they brew themselves! They have a patio. Don't be deterred by... More

Excellent prime rib sandwich. Reasonably priced and a fun environment. A short walk from the lovely downtown area. Pizza, burgers and more.

Great food and fun place to visit. Service a little slow. I had a salad and husband had the daily special. Daily special came with entrée, side and dessert.

Had a very enjoyable dinner with co-workers. The bread pudding was spongy and the caramel black bean burger was flavorful. Both were delicious. The prime rib sandwich was cooked to perfection. The service was great. The server was sweet and well spoken.

For good ol' favorites like pizza and burgers and ruebens… you can't go wrong. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, full bar.

After our tour of the old MO State Penitentiary (MSP), we drove around the corner to this pub eatery. Could be easy walk too about 3-4 blocks to the South East away from MSP. Decor was fitting and clever for the prison motif. Sports TV's here and there for those needing that. Food was good and wide variety. Prices reasonable.... More

I tried the Hefe and it had a very flat taste with little to no aroma. The food was absolutely nothing to write home about. We tried a burger and pizza. The burger was dry and over cooked the pizza was dry. I had heard so many great things about this place and was very disappointed. If you are looking... More

Had the beer plank since this was my first visit. I vote yes to the honey wheat, brown , IPA and stout. Don't go for raspberry and didn't like the hefeweizen. Service and food were fine. I "broke out" with change in my pocket.

The beer is good and the food os better than average. It's a fun play on the penitentiary theme and it works well.

Description
Prison Brews was opened in 2007 in a part of town that once housed the state penitentiary and is now experiencing residential / commercial re-growth. This has become a popular brewery with wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, etc. It has completely embraced the "prison" kitsch feel with bars between the bar & dining area and pictures of the 1800's penitentiary historical artifact lining the walls. The menu items and beers on tap are also incorporated into the theme. There is a large dining area as well as large outdoor seating on the adjacent patio complete with bocce ball. A unique experience in a growing area of town.
