The neighbors and us wanted Mexican for Saturday dinner. Without having to go too far from home, we picked El Agave. It's on the North side of Watson in a strip mall plaza with a new Aldis. It is fairly large with 1 section being...a bar. They were offering their jumbo lime margaritas for $1 off or $8.99. They were not too tart and enjoyed. I had their chicken, shrimp and beef fajitas mix for $19.99. It was just average compared with other competitors and did not come with quacamole. She ordered a no. 8 combo and mistakenly received a no. 18. Our waiter hesitated but corrected the error. The neighbors liked their choices okay. We arrived at 5:45 and they were not busy yet. We will probably try someplace else next time out for Mexican.More

This was one of our first dining ventures since COVID and it was very positive. Ernesto, our server, was pleasant, efficient, and professional. Chips were served warm and seemed home-made, as did the spicy salsa. The menu is extensive and prices are reasonable. I had...shrimp fajitas and they were outstanding. The tortillas were small and there were only three - I would have preferred five! My spouse generally is not a fan of Mexican fare but she found her chicken chimichanga to be very good, as did I. This is about my fourth visit over the past four years and I can't understand the negative reviews. For example, there is nothing "boring" about a good meal and great service, unless you are looking for Mariachi music or dancers. There are other Mexican restaurants nearby, but personally, I'm going to stick with El Agave!More

Typical Tex-Mex. Nothing particularly good or bad. Service is sloppy. Being from Texas , I’m kinda picky about Mexican food. Don’t get the margaritas’ stick with beer.

I had the ABSOLUTE WORST experience ever at the restaurant in Crestwood. My coworkers and I (a total of ONLY 4 people) ordered 4 separate dishes. It was picked up. When brought in, we noticed that they didnt have my order correct. I ordered a...#16, that was supposed to include a Chalupa, a beef chili relleno and an enchalada. I received only the chili relleno. I immediately called and spoke to Rueben who wanted to argue that all my food was there and he personally made sure of it. I explained over and over and he refused to take ownership. He then said to bring it up so he can "show me that it's in there". I came in, produced the untouched meal and even then, he decided to ARGUE with me for over 10 minutes claiming that I didn't order a #16, I ordered a #2 lunch special. I told him I was standing right there when the order was called in and it was for a #16. He argued that it wasn't. I said well even if it was a #2, where is the taco that's supposed to go with it. He then said one of my co-workers took it. I explained again that I was right there, it was only 4 of us, and no one had anything extra. I asked for him to pull up the receipt, which matched the one I had, and when he did, he saw the #16 written on there. He then tried to HIDE that receipt and found another one for $29 (instead of the $17 that was paid) that had a #2 on it, he kept searching his receipts until he found something that had a #2 on it. He kept arguing with me, told me I wasn't listening and refused to accept it!!! He THEN proceeded to tell me that my co-workers switched meals with me and never once took ownership or even apologized. He then said, we'll just give you some "more" food, like I was trying to get over or asking for something EXTRA!!! It was the rudest service I have ever experienced in my entire life!!!! He was so rude, argumentative, unapologetic, and even tried to treat me as if I was lying - during the phone call and even when I brought it up as proof. They then did a rush job with the replacement, never said thanks or sorry and handed me a hot tin foil dish WITHOUT A BAG, NAPKINS, UTENSILS, ETC.....I cannot believe this is how your establishment is ran and my coworkers and I will never return!! Sad thing is, I've visited the Wentzville location, I frequent there often, as well as the one in St. Charles. The service has never been this poor! Someone needs to FIRE Rueben!!!!! There were at least 10 other onlookers - waiters and waitresses, and NO ONE stepped in!!! They all allowed him to talk/treat me like a was a begger trying to get a free meal, instead of a patronizing CUSTOMER that ONLY WANTED WHAT I PAID FOR!!!!!!! I was so embarrassed and humiliated!!! over a $8.50 meal!!! I cannot believe it! WAISTED GAS, TIME & MONEY!!!!!!More

My sweetie and I have experienced Mexican food from Juarez to St. Louis. The best way I can describe El Agave is boring. The salsa was little more than crushed tomatoes. The filling in my sweetie’s burrito and enchilada was plain hamburger. My grilled scallops...and shrimp were OK, but had little of the zing that I expected. Although I do have to say that the portions were generous.More

If you're not hungry don't come here. The menu selection and portions are grande. El Agave has all of the traditional items and one of the best Combinations' sections I've ever seen at a Mexican restaurant (which helps if can't commit to only one thing)....Sauces, meats and chicken items were well seasoned. Chips were abundant. Salsa was not over the top hot. Very good value for the money!More

I had lunch here with a group of coworkers. The place had a large lunch menu that was reasonably priced. The service was good. I had the Huevos con Chorizo and it was really good. The scrambled eggs and chorizo were cooked and mixed well....The dish was not greasy. I will definitely come back.More

Our group of 4 all really enjoyed our meal. Plenty of food at a good price. Combination plates are $8.79 and kids meals are $5.49 and below. Carne Asada was delightful.

If you come on Monday- Thursday, they have a great lunch special. The food was very reasonably priced and very authentic. The atmosphere is quiet enough to carry on a conversation. I've always had a good experience here.

We live close by and thought we would try it out. We got carry outs and everything was packed nicely and got home in good shape. The problem was nothing had any flavor. We had fajitas and it just was nondescript. It wasn't bad, it...just wasn't good either. The prices were ok, but then again the food was just ok. We will probably keep looking for a good Mexican eatery in the area.More

My husband and I eat at El Agave often, we usually visit for lunch, but have been there several times for dinner as well. This is a popular restaurant and they are often busy, but with ample seating available (both indoor and outside when the...weather is nice) we've never had to wait for a table. The food is authentic and the portion sizes are really large. I recommend that no matter what you order, you get a tamale on the side, they are amazing. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the prices can't be beat. The lunch specials are especially inexpensive and when I get the two tamale lunch with beans and rice I always end up taking one of them home. Give them a try, I think you'll love this place!More
