Parking is easy (valet). Venue is new, attractive and modern. Welcomed by the maitre d' (Ken) who was unwelcoming to the point of rudeness. We had a 7 PM reservation for a party of 4, we arrived 5 minutes early, and were told our table...was not ready. OK, understandable. Since there was no room in the bar we were told to sit in the outside temporary enclosed bar. After 35 minutes without an update, I finally went back inside to check on our reservation. Running around "birddogging" our table is not what I expected to start an upscale evening. We were then escorted to our table. From there, every step was downhill. An exceptional waiter is so necessary to an exceptional experience. Turns out our service was 1 star. Lead waiter (Bruce) was cold, arrogant, and yet totally incompetent. Food was average quality at best. This restaurant is no longer a five star special occasion restaurant. The three stars I applied are overly generous and given only to recognize the elegant history of the Tonys name. Spend your (significant) money at any of the other superior restaurants in Clayton. I do not mind spending top dollar at a restaurant but in return I expect exceptional service and exceptional food. Since that is lacking, there would never be a reason to return.More

The service was good. The food was just okay. Tony’s salad tasted heavy on the vinegar, and my filet was a bit tough as were the few steamed vegetables that came with. The only thing I did enjoy was the tiramisu. We will not be...back.More

The dinner at Tony’s was amazing! The service and food were a 20 out of 10. The Head server was knowledgeable of all dishes, explaining the ingredients and preparation perfectly. The other servers were attentive, but never overwhelming. The 2 salads each had vinaigrettes that...were perfect for the beets and white asparagus. The Lobster Albanello was perfection. The pasta served with it had an amazing texture and was perfect for the Albanello sauce. The veal trio was accompanied by 3 sauces, each perfection of its own. Of course there has to be room for their desserts. The Lemon ricotta cheesecake was so light and one was able to taste both the refreshment of Lemon and the sinfulness of the cheesecake. The Rasberry Zabaglione was prepared to perfection and ended the meal with a standing ovation. To not dine at Tonys is to miss one of the great wonders of the world.More

My husband and I, and two of our friends who are from Connecticut, were directed to this restaurant. It didn't disappoint! The menu is extremely diverse; the food and service rivals any restaurant on the East Coast. The ambiance is simply fantastic! I felt like...I was in Manhattan. When I was younger, I thought Missouri was simply a cow town. I was wrong. My husband and I are world travelers and enjoyed this jewel as much as any restaurant we have ever experienced. Even the owner, I think his name was James (who looked like he was dressed from a Brioni catalog), came to our table several times, calling us by our last name even, was quiet and classy in the way he approached. Impressive and certainly left quite an impression on our entire party. What a gem for St. Louis! I only wish this establishment was in Manhattan.More

We have been to Tony’s several times over the years at the Downtown location. This was our first visit to the restaurant since it moved to Clayton and since the death of Vince. We were anxious to see the new location and see if any...familiar staff was still there. The new location is nice. There is valet parking available at the entrance. They also added a patio area to the restaurant. We also noticed very few including staff were wearing masks. We went in and gave the maître d our names and that we had 6:00 PM reservations for Tony’s. He said we have you down for 6:00 PM at Anthony’s. I said no, I called a month ago and made reservations specifically for Tony’s. He said I just gave away the last table. The owner came up and said you will like Anthony’s, it has the same menu and is very nice, “I spent more money on Anthony’s than Tony’s”. Anthony’s is a very nice, casual bar and restaurant for those not wanting something as formal as Tony’s. The trouble is, I booked Tony’s NOT Anthony’s. We followed the owner upstairs to the bar (Anthony’s) which was empty except a few people at the bar. He said pick any table you want, why not they were all empty. We chose a table furthest from the bar to avoid the noise. As the night went on, all the tables filled up. As we sat there, they brought up at least two other parties who had also booked Tony’s and were also very unhappy. So, they have problems with their reservations. Possibly overbooking and just moving people without their prior knowledge. As the evening ensued, things just got more chaotic. This is just very poor management. The whole evening was pretty much a disaster caused entirely by the ineptness of management. We got the taste of Tony’s, with the wine pairing. We have had it several times in the past. The food was excellent. Our waiter was very good and attentive. The Taste of Tony’s in Tony’s normally includes several of the dishes prepared at your table. At Anthony’s the food was brought to us course by course just like any restaurant. So, what you miss is the Tony’s experience, but still pay the same thing. We did ask the manager why they did not prepare the dishes at our table, and we were told the ceilings are too low and they could not per fire codes. We went to Tony’s to celebrate a special event and instead ended up having dinner in the bar. On the good side I could watch the ball game from my table, not what I had in mind for a nice formal dinner with my wife. Due to the crowded conditions, we could also overhear and see all the mistakes that were taking place such as wrong dishes being brought out. It looked like chaos and certainly not a well-oiled machine. Unfortunately, Tony’s appears to have fallen from being one of the area’s top restaurants. Very disappointing.More

The new location is quite lovely. It has both an elegant indoor space and a covered outdoor area. Only criticism is that the tables inside are quite close together leaving little room for both guests and servers. On the bright side, though, the staff is...at the same quality we've always experienced at Tony's over the years and the food terrific. Started with salad for her, fettuccine w/duck confit and mushrooms for me. Main course was special sea bass for her and the veal loin chop for me. Dessert the brown butter tart. All excellent.More

I was looking forward to a spectacular meal at Tony's. The restaurant has enjoyed stellar reviews in the past. The service was average for a pricey restaurant. The food was above par, but the wine list was thin for a restaurant with its reputation. I...give Tony's an average rating for the following reasons: Our table was not ready, despite confirming the reservation twice. Moreover, the table was squeezed into a room with another large table making things too tight for comfort. The service level and price points on the menu are out of sync. Not a lot of value here. We had one waiter for a party of nine. Tony's of old was a white-glove affair that built its reputation on exceptional service. There was not a single white glove insight. Our experience was similar to what one might expect at Capital Grill. One final note, there is not a lot of depth in the wine list. A restaurant with its reputation should have a much deeper wine list in my opinion. Not a sommelier in sight either.More

I'm amazed by a couple of negative reviews posted here. As a customer of a half dozen Michelin star restaurants around the US, we found last night's dinner at Tony's outstanding, on a par with favorites of ours like the Inn at Little Washington. The...service was impeccable, we enjoyed meeting James, and our appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts were excellent. A wonderful experience for a special occasion.More

Food for the most part was good to great. One dish was a disappointment. It might have gone unnoticed had the service not been the worst I've experienced in an upscale, ok expensive, restaurant, in maybe ever. Tables were too close together. Waiters constantly bumping...into my chair. Understand this was first week or two of the much anticipated reopening but stacking the tables that close together when covid guidelines were still in place is ridiculous (reads greedy). There are many better choices as to where to spend your dining dollars.More

Our first experience since their move left much to be desired. The ambiance was good although the room is extremely crowded with all tables filled & chairs were continuously bumped by the wait staff. Service left much to be desired with basic rules of serving...being ignored. Possibly training needed to be improved or with time these problems will be ironed out. They lost our reservation although we had called twice. The food was mediocre with it not being at temperature & not the exceptional flavor expected. It is a very expensive evening to be so disappointed.More

The new Tony's still gets an A-Plus for ambiance, but the food and service this evening were sadly a B-Minus....several serving faux pas by the wait staff, lukewarm entrees, cold coffee, and even had to keep asking for beverage refills, New space is tight and...noisy. In the past, when you dined at the old downtown location,, you knew it would be a very expensive evening, but worth it for the impeccable dining experience. Unfortunately, tonight's experience was VERY EXPENSIVE, but fell short of our expectations in everything but the ambiance.More

I've taken guests there for special occasions. A friend and I celebrated our plans for a trip to Hawaii. I ordered a bottle of Dom Perignon to compliment our dinners. I believe my friend had lamb and I probably had seafood. All the food was...excellent. My second visit with another friend was nice, however the maitre'd was overbearing boarding on flirtacious. My guest was offended, but was gracious to try to not let on and disappoint me. This service is the only reason I did not give them five stars.More
