I have been there 5 times already. Great service and great, relaxing atmosphere. In Budapest so far I have not felt better in other restaurants. Very decent prices, good wines. Will surely come back. Pio

This place has a perfect kitchen and a friendly staff. The owner is a very polite guy. We've been here for wine tasting and we also had our wedding here. Everybody was very satisfied.

We visit this place a few times a year as it is the best restaurant in the area. It is hidden from the public and usually not crowded despite the limited number of tables. Nice setup, surrounded by the park of the castle, located within...the castle building (which is pretty under-maintained though). We always have excellent time due to modest professional staff and very good food and wines. A bit on the formal side, so don't expect burgers and pizza. No dress code or such regardless. Steaks are usually made of Hungarian beef (=not the best meat ever), but anything else is a safe choice.More

Nice surroundings, kind staff, food was very tasty. I found the building a bit amortizated. I think the prices could be friendlier.

Excellent quality food and presentation. Wide variety of choices. Excellent wine selection. Service a little slow but not out of hand. Very respectful. Beautiful building and grounds. Parking is outside of gate. Pricing reasonable.

If you want to escape the busy city life of Budapest this is the perfect restaurant for you! We had a wonderful night at this beautiful castle. The food is of very high quality as are the wines. Our host was very nice and did...his best to explain the food and wine. He even let us choose between two wines and he let us share the dessert wine. The price is unbelievably cheap too. For a three course dinner including 4 glasses of wine, 1 glass of dessert wine and 2 cokes we payed HUF 18330 excluding the tip. Also a big plus that they don't charge service cost so you can decide for yourself how much you want to tip. There was only one small negative. The English menu wasn't updated yet to the new prices. Not really a problem, but our host mentioned it after we choose dessert. Although the new prices are not high and completely justified for what you get, it might have been a bit fairer to bill the old price or offer a drink for the inconvenience. But like I said the new prices are more than fair and still half of what we would have to pay in the Netherlands. If you are in the neighborhood definitely visit this restaurant!More

I have had the fortune to spend few hours in that restaurant which is in a castle. Not only the environment is exclusive, but the service too. And not speaking about the brilliant food which is excellent, and you can have the best wine and...dessert on the top of it. Don't hesitate to visit this wonderful place in the neighbourhood of Budapest.More

We visited the Kastély Étterem in Fót on a grey, cold evening in autumn. The warm athmosphere of the restaurant, the excellent quality of the meal, and the extraordinarily friendly and attentive service made this evening a heartwarming, unique experience. We felt like Baron and...Baroness in the Earl's castle!More

Located in what was once the library of the grand Károlyi palace. The decoration of the restaurant doesn't reflect the building's history or age, but the food and drink is excellent. We enjoyed our grilled pike perch with, one of the culinary delights of Hungary,...pickled vegetables - on this occasion cucumber and cabbage. The Eggplant cream (padlizsán krém) was also excellent and the home made lemonade was just right for a hot summer's day. Friendly service.More

I once heard the CEO of a very large high-technology company describe Atlanta as a diamond in a horse turd. He said the problem with the city was that it was located in Georgia. I feel somewhat the same way about Fóti Kastély Étterem. The...restaurant is located at one corner of a once elegant but run-down manor house that used to belong to the local Duke (who still resides upstairs with the Duchess), which itself is situated in a huge estate that has seen better days but is still marvelous in its run-down state. The estate, in turn, is at the center of a down-market village almost no one has heard of, even among those living in Budapest, just a few kilometers away. Despite the neglect all around him, Tamas Marcus has managed to recapture the elegant atmosphere, at least in his little corner of this world, and serve up delicious Hungarian food with professional service to match. The menu contains several standard Hungarian favorites, such as roast goose leg with red cabbage and potatoes, but most of the menu goes beyond that with more creative fare, such as the pork tenderloin coated with crushed black peppercorns and coriander seed with mashed potatoes and grilled tomato, one of my favorites. There's also a pork osso buco (pork shank) roasted in beer accompanied by sauerkraut with bacon and spicy fried potatoes. The roasted salmon filet with creamy garlic spinach and rice pilaf is also very good. There are many more items to choose from. A bottle from the nice collection of high quality Hungarian wines from several small producers across many regions makes a perfect accompaniment. Tamas also holds regular wine tasting dinners that feature one or more small Hungarian producers, and these have proven to be quite popular. I have attended several, and have enjoyed them very much. These events generally are not well advertised, and so if you are interested, it is best to call Tamas and let him know of your interest. Reservations are required for these events. During the warmer months, outside dining is available. This is also the only restaurant in Hungary where I have been able to get an ice cold beer served in a frosted mug! Reservations, especially on weekend, are recommended, as this place has become quite popular with locals and others.More
