We were in Jackson for just one night and staying not too far from the Country Kitchen. After reading the reviews we decided it was exactly what we were looking for. Good local food in a casual environment. But apparently, I missed some details- like...they usually close at 2pm! We showed up at 7PM and felt a little lost. The restaurant is in a family neighborhood with lovely manicures lawns- and didn’t have a big sign. Fortunately, Roy Dixon, saw us and realized our confusion. He came out and greeted us and let us know they were closed. But he asked if we liked pork skins (which we do!) and said he wanted to share some of his amazing pork skins with us. When he returned he, asked if we wanted to come in and look around. We did! It turns out that a private party that they were hosting they night cancelled and they did have some food they could share with us!!! Bonanza! Black eyed peas, yams, collared and turnip greens, Lima beans, Salisbury steak, chuck roast and smoked chicken wings Oh wait- corn muffins AND peach cobbler. Every morsel was delicious and we got the enjoy Roy’s company, great jokes and good fellowship. We also got to meet the wonderful Mrs. Dixon who is the chef. I couldn’t have planned it better. If you get a chance to dine here - don’t miss it. Everything was wonderful (yes, I did eat everything!)More

Nothing but good compliments here! Co-Worker brought me here and had the smoked chicken, mashed potatoes, and rice and gravy. Better get there early because you will not get anything of you are late. It's a locals favorite and always a line to get in....Highly recommend!More

I go here every time I visit my daughter in Jackson! The customer service is superb! The food is delicious! The food is reasonably priced! I always end up getting two to go boxes. One for when I get to my daughter's house and one...to eat the next day! I agree with the other reviewer! There is no way you will be hungry after eating here!More

Mississippi is known for hmmm, hmmm good food, and this restaurant is no exception. It is buffet style. The buffet had every kind of fresh fruit imaginable, everything for a wonderful salad, and endless meats and veggies. I lovvvved the fried chicken, the candied yams,...the greens, the fried green tomatoes, the butter beans, and the mac and cheese. When the waitress asks if you want her to bring you some catfish say YES!! The food at this place is to die for. I can't wait to go back. My friend, who recommended the restaurant, has assured me she will take me back there. I don't like iced tea, but I had a glass and it was fantastic. The desserts were super delicious, especially the peach cobbler. We went during the beginning of lunch hour and they already had a crowd, and a line was forming. Service was wonderful. The other patrons were soooo nice and friendly. I think everyone and everything there were the epitome of southern hospitality. I would have written this review sooner but I kept typing in the wrong name. My friend laughed when I told her I forgot the name. Shucks!! I was concentrating on the food. When you're in Jackson you've got to go here. It is right on the highway and there is plenty of parking. Try some of everything-AND GO HUNGRY!!More
