Memphis Street Cafe is a small cafe located in the basement of an old building in Hernando. They are open for lunch daily and in the evenings on Friday and Saturday nights. The sandwiches are really large portions and an excellent value for the money and taste. Highly recommend the restaurant for Trip Advisor.

Go for the Bananas Foster!

Excellent food! Be sure to try the bananas foster! Awesome! Wonderful Reuben sandwich, stuffed cabbage and delicious potato salad. A little hard to find, but worth looking!

Truly underground, steep narrow steps ... Beware! This is the first time we have experienced a restaurant featured on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. We went Sat. morning at 11am and we were the only customers there during our meal (which we thought was strange). Our meal was a huge disappointment, absolutely nothing special and very pricey. NOTE: Double check your... More

This is a hidden gem in Hernando. The cafe is located downstairs and you have to go down steps to enter. The first thought is that it is kinda plain but after you eat you will want to return time and time again. I live thirty miles from here but will travel here most anytime to eat. Their menu is... I can not imagine that there was ever a bad review here! My experience was so good here that I am writing this review before I even walk out of the restaurant. First of all, it is a hidden away restaurant which is quaint. When I walked in I immediately started contemplating who I would come back with. There is... More

I go for the Ruben sandwich and the russian potato salad! My son liked the mushroom hamburger sandwich with sweet potatoe fries.

Had a lunch meeting here and being a native from Louisiana I just had to try the gumbo. I have to say I wasn't disappointed and at $7 a bowl, who can complain. Also tried the cabbage rolls (yum). A definite place to stop by and "get you're belly full".

Memphis Street Cafe is now The Underground Cafe. The owners may or may not be the same, but the food is definitely not the same as before. On previous visits my wife and I have enjoyed delightful meals, including some memorable shrimp and grits. On this occasion, I ordered a French onion soup and Chipotle cheese grits. The soup was... We doubt we will ever get back to this fabulous bistro/cafe. The name has changed to Underground Hernando Cafe or similar. Still same owners as when Guy Fieri was there. We had Shrimp/ crawfish gumbo, shrimp and grits and Bananas Foster. Each was memorable. The Bananas Foster was amazing. We won't be back just because it's so far from home... More

We were looking for a place on Easter Sunday in a small town...boy did we find it! I love the fact it's tucked away in a basement! Our server was fun, we gave her 4 choices and told her to choose for us. She didn't let us down, I had the shrimp and grits, he had the jambalaya, both were... More

The Reuben is wonderful along with the Potato Salad. Yummy. I think I'll take one Friday night! It is underground but it's cozy.
