When looking for a local place to do lunch, our aunt suggested the Blue Heron Coffeehouse in downtown Winona. When busy, parking can be tricky though you can find free off-street parking nearby. This is a popular place and it was crowded when we arrived for lunch though we did find a table right away. This is an order at the counter restaurant though you can grab paper menus to pursue way from the counter. The Blue Heron offers local, organic, from scratch dishes. Offerings include specialty sandwiches, salads and soups. You can also do combo orders. There are breakfast offerings as well earlier in the day and extensive coffee drinks. The food was served relatively quickly and was tasty. We were able to sit and enjoy a visit without having to rush through our meal. It's the kind of place you'd like to go back to and try something different.

This restaurant knows how to do things right! There are a lot of choices on the menu, including tasty options for vegans and vegetarians. I love their homemade soups, salads and sandwiches. The atmosphere is cheerful and tastefully decorated, and the people working there are polite and efficient.

I had the Szechuan Noodle Salad, and I certainly enjoyed it. Besides the good food, the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable.

I would have given 4+ stars except for the fact that there was a large ant in my wife's salad. My wife took it to the front counter to advise the staff and their response was simply " we are farm to table ". We weren't looking for compensation but just wanted them to know. The food tasted fine but that casual we don't care response didn't sit well.

So many choices! Fortunately there is an option to choose two - half sandwich, small salad or soup. Ingredients are fresh and combinations are creative. Wish the Blue Heron was located where I live!

The entree I chose was the Basque Shepard's Lamb and Beef Stew. This was one of the best meat stews I have ever had. The coffee house works hard to make these Thursday dinner nights special and this is greatly appreciated.

The Blue Heron is a must every time we are in town. The place has a great vibe (although it can get pretty loud when busy) and very high quality soup and sandwich options, great coffee, and does offer bottled beer as an option as well.

Visitor center recommended this place and we didn’t want a big meal. This hit the spot. They had a wide variety of items including salads, sandwiches, and baked goods. There was a lovely display of flower photographs which was enjoyable.

Stopped on way through Winona. What a great place. Had quiche and coffee both tasty. Husband had egg salad said it was really good.

Food and coffee is a natural and pure conscious choice that you can feel good about. I find the prices a bit steep, but you will have a free conscience towards health and fair trade.

A marvelous place to meet with friends, family or colleagues over a delicious meal. Fresh local ingredients put together by amazing chefs. Open for breakfast and lunch and occasionally during the evening. Food is wonderful! Atmosphere is friendly.

I ordered the kale salad, and it was delicious. They also offered to make grilled cheese sandwiches for my kids, which was great because they weren't on the menu.

We just stopped for a quick coffee and a sandwich and wish we had been able to try more menu items. The chicken salad was great and bread was best I've tasted. You can't miss with this place.
