I've lived in northern MN for most of my life and I can't believe it took me this long to visit this GEM. If you want freshly made pies with amazing customer service and a killer gift shop, you need to make a stop at the Rustic Inn Cafe just north of Two Harbors. I took my elderly dad here for a late lunch after a few hours of hiking. He ordered the Reuben and I quote "this is the best reuben i've ever tasted." I had the BBQ bacon cheddar chicken sandwich. Arrived just as I ordered, light on the BBQ. The presentation was so wonderful, I snapped a pic as seen below. Great sandwich. Superb. I won't talk about this place's potential competition, but I now know why locals suggest this over other places in the area. I like to always comment on our bill. For 2 sandwiches, regular free side options, 2 glasses of water and 3 pies to go, total was $47 (this includes tax). This place appears to have ample parking, is way larger on the inside vs outside and while I didn't see any alcohol, my dad said he wished he ordered a beer he saw on display. A NEW MUST STOP AT ON THE WAY UP NORTH.

My husband enjoyed his burger and rings. I enjoyed my salad (vegetarian) but the portion size was huge so I could only eat 1/2 even though I was very hungry. If you are a vegetarian be aware that the crust pies are made with lard! Also, I highly recommend calling ahead if you have your mind set on a specific pie. They seem to run out of fruit pies.

A nice variety of unique northwoods spins on dishes throughout the day for a competitive price. Breakfast/brunch is my favorite time to visit for meals. Great gift shop too. Lots of options for pies to eat or take with you. This trip was just curbside pickup. I always stop when I go to the North Shore.

I saw all the great reviews on this place so I thought I would give it a try. I was very disappointed. I was looking forward to getting breakfast but was told they didn't serve breakfast during the week only on the weekends. Which was a real bummer but is fine I guess but no where on the website or menu had it said that. Please put the actual hours of when you serve whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. The server wasn't that nice either, had an attitude towards us. The other disappointment was the price of the food, $20 for a burger??? Come on now! I have had an amazing burger for much less money. And if you want to add anything on your burger they charge even more. A slice of cheese is another $3. We went out of our way for this place and I feel it shouldn't have as much of the good reviews as it does. Most of the reviews are about the pies only anyways not much about the food. Betty's Pie has amazing pies as well, and for much less money.

We stopped here twice during our North Shore trip, once for the pie and once for an actual meal + pie. The first visit was great, and the pie was to die for. (Ask for the fruit pies to be warmed up a bit and served with a side of ice cream. Perfection.) The second time we stopped, we ordered lunch which consisted of a chicken wrap, fries, and of course more pie. The service wasn't great and we were not served our correct order the first time around. When the did bring out our actual order, the fries were cold and the wrap was slightly stale and generally disappointing. Wouldn't recommend the food unless you aren't picky and this is one of the only available options. The pie, however, makes this place worth the stop.

My friend purchased a slice of pie from them and they charged her $80 and will not refund it. Claimed the charge would go away but it hasn’t, months later. Scam artists, robbed my friend!!! I called for her and they said they’d call back and I never heard from them. Terrible service terrible place.

Food was good, service was horrible. Host and waitress were crabby, rude, and acted annoyed at everything including us not knowing what type of pie we wanted while we were still eating our meal. Go to Betty’s instead.

We were in the area to explore the parks and tried to stop here for lunch twice and failed. We had our dog with us so things were complicated by needing dog friendly places. Day 1, it was really busy with a long wait. We were told we could order to go to eat outside but decided just to try somewhere else bc we thought it would take too long to get the food with the big crowd and we were starving. Day 2. Wasn’t as busy as it was a weekday. My fiancé told the hostess we had a dog and asked if we could order to sit outside. She said sure but it was a 20 min wait. Didn’t make sense bc the big deck was empty and we were only trying to order to go but we waited. She came out about 15 min later to bring us inside, we reminded her we have a dog and we’re trying to eat outside. She said they weren’t serving on the deck and they didn’t do to go orders, she had put us down for a table inside. She seemed annoyed and dismissive with us. We contemplated just putting the dog in the car since it was cool out but with the bad communication we were getting and the unwelcoming hostess we decided it wasn’t going to be worth it. Moral of the story, not dog or people friendly, confusing changing rules, bad communication skills, no outdoor seating. The food looks great but I will never try to go here again dog or not bc I simply didn’t feel welcome at all.

Had a great breakfast and a fantastic dinner last weekend! For breakfast I had the hash skillet with 2 eggs over hashbrowns with toast and husband had 2 eggs over american fries with pumpkin coffee cake. Over easy eggs were done perfectly and we really enjoyed breakfast. Went back for dinner that evening and it was even better! I had a nice Chardonnay and husband had a Castle Danger beer. We split the butternut squash and apple salad with a maple vinegrette to start and it was fantastic! I had the wild rice meatloaf with potatoes, gravy and asparagus and husband had the pork tenderloin medallions with a blueberry sauce, mashed potatoes and asparagus. Both meals were excellent! The blueberry sauce on the pork was perfect and if you remotely like meatloaf, you need to try this, it’s amazing! The gift shop attached has lots of great gifts too and we got some early Christmas shopping done! This place had it all!!

This place was highly recommended so we went there for lunch celebrating our 30th anniversary and it did not disappoint. My husband had ribs that were literally falling off the bone. I had a turkey sandwich on cranberry bread with cranberry mustard that was very tasty. I also a cup of their wild rice soup that was to die for. The combo came with pie so I had a slice of the 5 layer chocolate which was great. We actually tried to go again a couple of days later but there was an hour wait got a table so sadly we moved on.

One of our favorites on the North Shore had a particularly bad day. On a separate trip had a wonderful pork tenderloin sandwich and pie lunch and decided to repeat it. The tenderloin was so overcooked, it was a thread of brown/grey meat. We even tried to cut away the part sitting outside the bun, but couldn't get a knife through it. It was like sawing a piece of wood with a butter knife. The onion rings were so heavy with the taste of grease, had to forego. The onions inside were soaked with a brown greasy oil - oil temp? Then the cream pie came out without any form of a pie, almost like it had been sitting out in too hot of a kitchen and just spread out on the plate. After having a long wait for a table and our wait person with another large party, we decided to just chalk it up to a bad day and leave. However, if that's now the cut of meat for that sandwich, it needs to be removed from the menu.

Such a wonderful gem between Two Harbors and Castle Danger. The food, and I mean every single item on the menu, looks fabulous. We always make it our #1 dining destination. On our way to Grand Marais. It is about 10 miles north of Two Harbors ( drive right past Betty’s Pies). Everything about the rustic Inn rates 5 stars. Beautiful decor, clean, friend staff (they do have a full bar) & best of all the FOOD! Last time we were there (June of 2021) they are renovating and creating an expansion so parking in front is not available. Instead, you enter from the side and meander through their lovely gift shop. On our last visit we ordered the turkey sandwich on their amazing wild rice, cranberry bread (check their website because they share the recipe). It came with a cup of soup and wait for it…a slice of pie! We devoured a piece of raspberry cream pie. We now dream of it because it was sooooo fabulous. In fact, we are driving down to get an entire pie! How’s that for a testimonial? Lol Don’t take my word for it, stop in and savor the flavor!

Saturday in May two couples each enjoyed this place and sharing lunch with their spouse. Portions were generous, allowing for room for pie. My husband and I loved the five layer chocolate. Atmosphere simple and bucolic. Server efficient with a sense of humor. Good crowd signaled the quality of dining experience. Well deserved rating.

Rustic Inn has the best Rhubarb pie I have ever tasted. The last time we were in Duluth I called to see if they had any and they said they just took one out of the oven. I am surprised I didn't get a speeding ticket on my way to get it. So good.

We made a weekend trip to the Two Harbors area and stopped by the Rustic Inn & Café for lunch. What an excellent experience we had beginning with the handicap accessible ramp, which made it easy for one in our party to enter the facility. We arrived for an early lunch on a Saturday and we’re promptly seated. By the time we left, the place was near capacity with a waiting line outside. The meals were excellent as was the service. Don’t forget to have some of their delicious pie before leaving. I would highly recommend this place for a casual lunch.
