I stumbled on McQuade’s while spending a weekend on the lake. We were decided on McQuade’s for no reason other than it was close. We were so very pleased with every aspect of our experience. The service was stellar. The food was perfection. The atmosphere...comfortable casual. We started with bruschetta, the flavors are perfectly balanced; no one ingredient outplayed another. Then I had a burger - melt in your mouth tender, simply seasoned. My husband had the smoked salmon sandwich which was perfection. Living along the North Shore of Lake Superior, finding truly great food can be a bit challenging. Most of the restaurants serve diner style food or are a bit dated in their menu options. McQuade's Pub and Grill brings truly fine dining to the North...Shore without the arrogance found in most 'fancy' restaurants. And don't let the name fool you, this is not a sports bar. In my opinion, the artistry and care that goes into each creatively crafted dish rivals any fine restaurant food you will get in any major city. Frank McQuade, who owns the restaurant, is a master chef who has employed other brilliant 'foodie' chefs and servers to support his amazing menu. Frank and his staff are true artists as they are constantly creating new recipes and changing the menu, so it is always a fresh and new experience. This can be a downside, too, as your favorite dish may find itself replaced by something else, yet I truly enjoy these changes. You can tell they have a passion for what they do, and I appreciate that. For the quality of food (presentation, complexity of flavors, and portion size) the prices are reasonable compared to other fine dining experiences. The environment is very cozy, laid back, and has a blend of a Chicago dinner club mixed with North Shore charm. If you truly want an amazing dining experience, you need to make McQuade's Bar and Grill a part of your trip.More
